Credit card face-off: Amex Green vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred

American Express has long dominated the upper end of the credit card marketplace, with cards like The Platinum Card® from American Express offering a slew of perks and rewards geared toward more affluent consumers who have lots of disposable income (with a hefty $550 annual fee underscoring the premium nature of the card). But what about middle-market borrowers? Those who don’t need or want the same degree of premium benefits, and an annual fee of no more than $200?

This museum will pay you $25,000 to find Missouri meteorite pieces
Hey, so, funny story: Remember that crazy-bright fireball that appeared over the skies of St. Louis earlier this week? Yeah, it was awesome, but finding the leftovers would be even more awesome, and the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum is willing to fork over a hefty sum if anyone can locate sizable chunks of the rock itself.
The fireball that was witnessed by man across the state of Missouri was captured on video from multiple angles, and it’s believed that the rock that produced it was somewhere around 220 pounds. That’s a big old chunk of space junk, but did any of it survive the trip through our atmosphere?

Superbugs could kill us all if we’re not careful
You may not see it on the surface, but there’s an arms race happening at your local pharmacy. Every day, antibiotics are handed out to countless sick people around the globe. They’re our best weapon against many types of bacteria, and they’ve worked well for us for a long time. That’s beginning to change.
Life finds a way, and bacteria are no different. We developed drugs to kill them off in ourselves, our animals, and even in the food we eat, but it was only a matter of time before such microorganisms found ways around them. Today, antibiotic-resistant bacteria are already claiming lives, and a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals that as many as four people are killed by these new “superbugs” every hour in the United States alone.

These were the 10 most-watched Disney+ shows during launch week
Other than the streaming and log-in hiccups that frustrated some viewers who tried out the new service earlier this week, the hotly anticipated debut of Disney’s new streamer Disney+ on Tuesday seems to have been enough of a success that it reportedly garnered millions of subscribers for Disney. And it even helped the Walt Disney Co. stock price reach its biggest single-day gain in seven months as a result.
Indeed, the new streamer has emerged as a credible threat to Netflix right out of the gate. Its monthly price starts at $6.99, and for that price you get to enjoy hundreds of movies from Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and Disney, not to mention new series that will be exclusive to Disney+. Along those lines, after watching the first episode of the streamer’s new series The Mandalorian (with my first impressions recorded here) I found it to be a fantastic addition to the Star Wars franchise.

How to add USB ports to your power outlets without touching a single wire
If you’re like me, you often find yourself thinking how great it would be if the power outlets in your home also have built-in USB ports. You also find yourself thinking just as often that there’s no way you’re messing with electricity or paying an electrician hundreds of dollars to install them. Then, I found the SnapPower Electrical Outlet Cover Plate with USB Charger and everything changed. It’s brilliant — all you have to do is unscrew your current wall plate and pop this one on in its place. It draws power just from a couple of integrated metal contacts so you don’t even have to touch a single wire!

11 new trailers worth watching: 6 Underground, Sonic, The SpongeBob Movie, and more
If I were to choose a new movie to watch this weekend, it’d be a toss-up between Ford v Ferrari, a drama based on a true story, or The Good Liar, a drama starring Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen. The new Charlie’s Angels is also out this week, but I’m just not feeling it. But what am I even saying; Disney+ launched a few days ago, which gives you the perfect excuse not to go to a theater near you, especially if you’ve got catching up to do on Disney content — the live-action Lady and the Tramp is out on the service, for example.
Speaking of streaming, I’ve just caught up with American Son over on Netflix, based on the Broadway play, and it’s something that definitely should be on your list.

Limited-time offer: The 65K bonus miles make this United Airlines card tough to pass up
BGR has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. BGR and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.
Please note: the offers mentioned below are subject to change at any time and some may no longer be available.
One of the quickest ways frequent travelers can rack up bonus miles is by taking advantage of credit card sign-up bonus offers — an incentive that United Airlines has hiked on one of its co-branded cards recently as part of a limited-time offer. After making some major improvements to its United Explorer Card over the last year and a half, the card is throwing in one more sweetener to tempt travelers with, one that will be on offer through January 9, 2020.
The offer is an increased (and, we might add, a fairly generous) sign-up bonus of 65,000 miles which you will rack up after reaching two spending tiers with the card.

Almost no one is buying Google smart speakers anymore
In the third quarter, Google’s share of the smart speaker market basically fell off a cliff, plummeting from nearly a third of the market to only around 12%. That’s one of the findings of the newest Canalys report that’s been published and which offers an overview of the market worldwide during the quarter, which was a time when (barring Google’s performance) millions of people were continuing to buy new smart speakers and displays. From Amazon, mostly, which grew its share of the market almost 70% compared to this point in 2018.
Among the results, according to Canalys, a strong Prime Day this year, as well as back-to-school shopping campaigns, helped Amazon sell 10.4 million speakers during the quarter and continue to pull away from the pack.
