Somehow, AT&T customer service found a way to be even worse than Comcast

Colorado’s Attorney General Phil Weiser has told both DirecTV and Comcast in letters sent to the companies that his office is investigating a practice that sounds so obviously sketchy that you’d think it would be a no-brainer to not do this. Both companies — with one important distinction between them — have been charging customers for blacked-out channels.

In AT&T’s case, with DirecTV, it’s got customers that have been charged for two months for a blacked-out sports channel. Comcast has charged customers in Colorado while the Altitude Sports network has been blacked out — but as Ars Technica noted in a post this week, at least it’s been automatically crediting customer bills there as a result of that blackout.

Before you drop $250 on a Nest, check out this $65 Alexa enabled thermostat

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I love Nest thermostats. In fact, I have several of them in my house. That said, if I had it to do all over again I would probably opt for something different. Like most people, I actually don’t use most of Nest’s “learning” features which means I paid $250 each for thermostats that are underutilized. If you just want some basic smart features and the ability to control your thermostat from your phone or with Alexa, definitely check out the iDevices Wi-Fi enabled Smart Thermostat instead — especially while it’s on sale for just $65 instead of $100!

iDevices Thermostat – Wi-Fi enabled Smart Thermostat; Works With Alexa, Siri, the Google Assist…: $65.44

Here are the bullet points from the product page:

  • VOICE CONTROL: Responds to Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant voice commands (voice assistant devices sold separately)
  • ACCESS ANYWHERE: Control and monitor the iDevices Thermostat from anywhere using any iOS/Android device and the iDevices Connected app
  • COMPATIBILITY: Works with most heating and cooling systems; all systems require a 24VAC “Common” wire for power. All system types require a common wire (C-Wire). To check system and router compatibility, refer to iDevices support portal
  • NO HUB REQUIRED: With the iDevices Thermostat, a home Wi-Fi network and a smart phone/tablet are all that’s required to get started. For additional compatibility details, refer to the iDevices support portal
  • 2-YEAR WARRANTY: Backed by a 2-year limited warranty and U.S.-based customer experience team

The top 10 shows people are binge-watching right now on Netflix, Amazon, and TV

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I didn’t really have any expectations when a friend recommended that I check out Atypical a while back. You can’t really go wrong with Michael Rapaport, but I hadn’t seen Jennifer Jason Leigh in anything in years and I had never even heard of Keir Gilchrist or Brigette Lundy-Paine. I also balked at the showrunner, Robia Rashid, who obviously has an impressive resume, but it consists entirely of TV shows that I don’t enjoy at all. My friend insisted though, so one evening about a week later, my wife and I sat down and checked it out. I don’t exactly how long it took us to binge-watch the first two seasons, but it couldn’t have been more than a week or so. We’re now about halfway through the new third season that was released on Netflix this past Friday, and it’s just as great as the first two seasons.

My wife and I clearly aren’t alone in loving the new season, because it shot straight to the top of this week’s list of the 10 most binged shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, TV, and more.

iOS 14 concept imagines new features, refreshed icons, and an always-on display

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Although iOS 13 was an exciting software update on paper, it has been something of a mess in practice. After failing to release a stable beta, Apple was forced to move up the already expedited launch of iOS 13.1 to just days after the launch of iOS 13. In the weeks since, users have continued to run into issues, including an incredibly annoying RAM management problem that causes apps to reset while running in the background.

We can only hope that iOS 14 will have a smoother roll out next year, but in the meantime, we can only imagine what Apple has in store for its next major software update. If we’re lucky, it might look something like the awesome concept that YouTuber the Hacker 34 dreamed up in his latest video (via 9to5Mac).

An asteroid as large as 2,000 feet across will speed past Earth later this month

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A large space rock known to scientists as 481394 (2006 SF6) will make its closest approach to Earth in just a couple of weeks. NASA scientists believe it will pass our lively little sphere on November 20th, coming within 0.029 astronomical units of Earth. That’s close enough that NASA considers the rock to be a potentially hazardous object, but it looks like it’s going to miss us this time around.

I know, 0.029 sure sounds like a close miss — and in the grand scheme of things, you could argue that it is — but astronomical units (au) are huge. 1au is the average distance between the Earth and our Sun, which is nearly 93 million miles. That means 2006 SF6 will still be around 2.7 million miles away from our planet when it passes by.

‘Joker’ deleted scene gives us the spoiler we needed to understand the controversial ending

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Joker turned out to be a massive hit for a superhero movie that has no superheroes or incredible special effects in it. The billion-dollar film continues to lure in plenty of moviegoers each weekend, and it practically begs Warner Bros. to use this version of the Joker in future DCEU movies. One of the reasons the film is so good is the ending, which leaves things open to interpretation. That’s how director Todd Phillips wanted the story to be, and we’ve already explained why it’s all so amazing. But now we hear there’s a deleted scene that would not only clear up one of the plot’s biggest mysteries, but it would also be the enormous spoiler we needed to understand exactly what the ending is supposed to be. Mind you, some spoilers will follow below, so you’d better watch the Joker before you read anything else.
