Stanford has a coronavirus therapy that might prevent severe cases
- Researchers at Stanford have a new coronavirus treatment idea: Giving patients who have been just diagnosed COVID-19 positive an interferon drug version within three days of the test.
- The trial is seeking 120 volunteers who haven’t been admitted to a hospital after their positive diagnosis. They will be given either the drug or a placebo, and then they’ll be monitored over nine successive visits.
- If successful, such protocols could speed up recovery and reduce the risk of life-threatening complications for patients who are healing at home.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Remdesivir became the first standard coronavirus drug following a study that showed the medicine can speed up recovery time. The drug isn’t a magical cure, however, and it won’t reduce the number of deaths. More research is required to see whether remdesivir can be paired up with other drugs to further improve the healing process and potentially reduce complications. The drug isn’t widely available though, and it will only be used in hospitals on some patients.
The race to find other treatments for COVID-19 is still on, and researchers aren’t only looking at vaccines. A team at Stanford has an idea that might prevent severe coronavirus cases, and that’s to start treating the disease with a specific drug as soon as the infection is confirmed.

Scientists discovered an animal that doesn’t need oxygen
- Scientists have found a multicellular organism capable of surviving without oxygen.
- The creature, a tiny parasite that lives inside of salmon, doesn’t have the genes for mitochondria, which power our cells and allow for cellular respiration that uses oxygen.
- Researchers still aren’t sure how the creatures are surviving, so this won’t be the last you hear of it.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Understand how life itself originated on Earth has been a complicated puzzle for scientists. Age-old assumptions about what is required for life to exist have often been questioned and in some cases completely debunked. Now, researchers have discovered that oxygen, which we thought was absolutely crucial for all life on Earth, isn’t… at least for one very unique animal.
The creature, called Henneguya salminicola, is a tiny parasite that lives inside fish, specifically salmon. Researchers have known that the parasite doesn’t require oxygen to survive, and they’re still working on figuring out why.

China ministry publishes scathing response to US coronavirus ‘lies’
- The war of words between the US and China, relations between which were already tense even before the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, continues to escalate.
- The Chinese foreign ministry has now published a lengthy article, also carried by Chinese state-run media, purporting to rebut 24 “lies” from the US about China and its handling of the coronavirus crisis.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The first thing a sharp-eyed American reader might notice when reading the scathing, 11,000-word article posted over the weekend on the website of China’s Foreign Ministry is not any of the rebuttals to what China insists have been 24 “lies” from the US amid the coronavirus pandemic.
It is instead the fact that the “article” — which was also distributed by China’s state-run news agency Xinhua — sets up its point-by-point response to the 24 allegations from US politicians by first leading off with a quote from Abraham Lincoln… but there’s no proof the Civil War-era US president ever actually said it. “Recently,” the article begins, “some US politicians and media outlets have been fabricating preposterous allegations and lies of one kind or another in order to shift the blame to China for their inadequate response to COVID-19. However, as Abraham Lincoln said, ‘You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.’ Lies evaporate in the light of truth. It is time to let facts speak for themselves.”

Get AirPods rivals with more than 20,000 5-star ratings for just $32
- It goes without saying that Apple’s AirPods models the most popular true wireless earbuds out there right now, but they’re still expensive even at today’s deeply discounted prices.
- If spending over $100 for new earphones isn’t an option for you, there are plenty of great alternatives that cost a small fraction of what Apple charges for AirPods and AirPods Pro.
- One of the best deals you’ll find today on Amazon is on the wildly popular TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 True Wireless Earbuds, which are on sale for just $31.99 for a limited time.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple’s various different AirPods models are by far the most popular true wireless earphones we cover here at BGR Deals. AirPods Pro are always top sellers, but that’s especially true lately since Amazon has been selling them at their lowest price ever, matching its big sale from Black Friday and Cyber Monday last year. Then in a surprise turn of events, Amazon slashed a whopping $50 off the AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case last week to drop them to a new low price that beat last year’s Black Friday sale by $10.
You really can’t go wrong with either one of those models, or with regular AirPods 2 that are on sale right now for $139. That said, there are plenty of other true wireless earbuds on Amazon right now that are far more affordable than AirPods, even while they’re on sale at all-time low prices.
TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 Wireless Earbuds with Wireless Charging Case IPX8 Waterproof TWS Stereo…: $31.99
If you have an iPhone, you’re probably familiar with the brand TOZO. If not, it’s the company that helped start the ultra-thin iPhone case trend with all those paper-thin plastic cases that are available for various iPhone models. They’re made for plenty of Android phones now as well, and there are dozens of different brands that have gotten in on the action. TOZO’s cases are still the most popular ones though, thanks in large part to the fact that they cost less than $10 each.
TOZO’s strategy of selling high-quality accessories at shockingly low prices extends to the TOZO T10 Bluetooth 5.0 True Wireless Earbuds, which are among the best-rated cord-free earphones on Amazon’s entire site. They have accumulated more than 33,000 ratings so far on Amazon, and more than 23,000 of those Amazon ratings are 5-star reviews. They retail for just $40, which is already more than $100 less than the retail price of Apple’s most affordable AirPods. Clip the coupon on the product page, however, and you can snag a pair of these best-selling buds for just $31.99!

A simple vitamin might help save coronavirus patients’ lives
- A brand new coronavirus study says that there may be a correlation between vitamin D levels and the severity of COVID-19 cases.
- Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with an increased risk of developing a more severe case.
- Researchers haven’t actually conducted clinical trials to monitor vitamin D levels and use the vitamin as part of therapy for coronavirus patients.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The first vaccine capable of preventing novel coronavirus infections might be ready this fall for emergency use. If all goes well, the general public could then have access to a vaccine sometime soon after in early 2021. But the world’s entire population will have to be inoculated fully eradicate the disease and prevent other outbreaks. This task will take years, and that’s assuming the vaccines work. The virus could always mutate and impact any vaccines’ efficacy. That’s why it’s important to also develop drugs that can improve the prognosis of COVID-19 patients, speed up the recovery, and reduce the risk of complications and death.
Several such therapies have been detailed recently. Remdesivir, blood thinners, a triple-drug combo, and a drug used to treat prostate cancer are all examples of coronavirus therapies that worked on certain patients and deserve more attention. On top of that, a team of researchers at Stanford is working on a treatment that could help coronavirus patients if it’s administered early enough. Elsewhere, researchers think they’ve found a correlation between a simple vitamin and the severity of COVID-19 cases.

Save $70 on the Bose 700 noise cancelling headphones that never go on sale
- Amazon’s best-selling face masks are still flying off store shelves since the CDC says people need to wear them when going out, and hand sanitizer has been back in stock and selling quite quickly also.
- On top of all that, Amazon is finally beginning to refocus on “nonessential” products again and people are excited to see popular products shipping out soon.
- Among all the great deals that have been popping up, one has grabbed our attention because it’s completely unprecedented: Top-of-the-line Bose 700 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones that almost never go on sale are up to $70 off.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If you don’t know where to look, you’ll never find Amazon’s best deals because the online retail giant’s daily deals page is now hidden. That should change soon, however, because Amazon is finally beginning to refocus on what have been dubbed “nonessential” products. When the novel coronavirus outbreak was at its worst in the United States, Amazon shifted resources to focus mainly on delivering medical supplies to hospitals. Now that COVID-19 is spreading far lass rapidly — for now, at least, since businesses are reopening much too soon according to many experts — Amazon is starting to ship nonessential items more quickly and daily deals are making a comeback.
If you’re looking for great deals on popular products that are available to ship out soon, we’ve got a bunch of good news for you today. Amazon’s best-selling face masks are back in stock for 78¢ each and hand sanitizer is back as well. Apple’s AirPods and AirPods Pro are also discounted and ready to ship. But there’s another big sale right now on Amazon that you need to check out, and it covers some of the hottest personal audio products ever made.
Amazon is offering a bunch of great deals on popular Bose speakers and wireless headphones, and we dug through them all to pick out the five best bargains. Some of them are familiar deals that have returned somewhat unexpectedly considering Amazon’s current shift in focus away from nonessential products. Other deals are a bit more surprising, however, such as a deal no one saw coming that offers a crazy discount on the hot new Bose 700 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones.
These class-leading headphones rarely ever go on sale but they’ve been $50 off for more than a week now at Amazon. Today, however, another big surprise popped up: that $50 discount increased to $70 on the Bose 700 ANC headphones in white! It looks like only one seller has them with that extra discount though, so you should definitely hurry up and grab them before they sell out. The good news, however, is that they’re still on sale for $349 in all three colors once the $329 units are gone.
Bose Noise Cancelling Wireless Bluetooth Headphones 700, with Alexa Voice Control, Arctic White…: $329.00 – $349.00
Those are Bose’s latest and greatest ANC headphones and they’re by far the best model that Bose has ever made. That said, there are other Bose deals you should definitely check out as well. The popular Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones get a $50 discount to $299, and Bose’s first and only true wireless earbuds, the Bose SoundSport Free, get an even bigger discount to an all-time low of $139 in one color while the other three colorways are down to $149.
Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, Noise-Cancelling, with Alexa voice contr…: $299.00
Bose SoundSport Free, True Wireless Earbuds, (Sweatproof Bluetooth Headphones for Workouts and…: $139.00 – $149.00
If you’re looking for speakers instead, there are two Amazon deals in particular that you’ll likely be interested in. The Bose Solo 5 TV Soundbar Sound System everyone loves so much is down to $199 from $250, and the Bose Home Speaker 500 with killer sound quality and hands-free Alexa voice control gets a big $100 discount to $299.

Bose Home Speaker 500 with Alexa voice control built-in, Black: $299.00

Roku’s hottest media players are just $29 today at Amazon
- Roku is the top streaming media player brand in the world right now, which means its devices are even more popular than Amazon’s Fire TV device lineup.
- Amazon is running deals right now on two of the company’s most popular streaming players, the entry-level Roku Express HD and the beloved Roku Premiere with 4K and HDR support.
- Both devices are on sale right now at their lowest prices of the year, but there’s no telling how much longer the deals will be available.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
When it comes to streaming media players, people are either in the Fire TV camp or the Roku camp. There happen to be a lot more people in the Roku camp since it’s the top streaming media player brand out there right now, but either one will give you access to any and all the streaming services you subscribe to. Fire TV fans will be happy to learn that there’s a little-known deal right now on Amazon’s site that some people can take advantage of to get a great price on Amazon’s hottest streamer. Use the coupon code 4KFIRETV at checkout and you can snag a Fire TV Stick 4K at its all-time low price of just $24.99. The only problem is this deal is only available to some people and there’s no way to tell who unless you try the coupon. Terms and conditions are right here on Amazon’s site, but they don’t really tell you much.
If you’re team Roku, don’t worry because we’ve got a pair of deals for you that might be even better. One is on Roku’s entry-level streaming device and the second is on the Roku Premiere, which might be the most underrated device Roku makes.
Starting with the entry-level model, the Roku Express HD was updated for 2019 and it’s one of the most affordable streaming media players out there. You get access to every streaming service you have ever heard of along with dozens and dozens of services you’ve probably never heard of. On top of that, you get The Roku Channel, which aggregates all sorts of great movies and TV shows that you can stream for free. It’s shipping out right away and it’s on sale for $29 at Amazon.
Roku Express HD Streaming Media Player 2019: $29.00
There are two things you won’t get with the Express HD that might make it worth the upgrade. First, you won’t get support for content that streams in 4K resolution. And second, you won’t get support for the vivid colors that come along with HDR content. For that, you’ll want the Roku Premiere, which just so happens to be on sale today for $29 instead of $40. That price is even lower than it was on Black Friday, so it’s definitely a great deal that you don’t want to miss.
Roku Premiere | HD/4K/HDR Streaming Media Player, Simple Remote and Premium HDMI Cable: $29.00

Want your stimulus check soon? Here’s the IRS’s deadline to submit your bank info
- In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the IRS has sent out millions of stimulus checks to Americans totaling more than $200 billion.
- That money was appropriated by Congress as part of a $2.2 trillion program passed in late March.
- Most Americans qualify to get a coronavirus stimulus check, and you can even get it faster via direct bank deposit — but to do so, an important deadline is coming up on Wednesday.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
In the first four weeks since the IRS started sending out waves of direct coronavirus stimulus payments to Americans in the wake of the ongoing pandemic, the tax agency says around 130 million people so far have received checks worth more than $200 billion.
However, that still leaves millions of people who might be newly unemployed or in some other kind of economic hardship waiting on their check — which will total up to $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples, with an extra $500 per eligible child. There is a way those people can speed up getting their check, but it involves a deadline that’s coming up fast.
