Wild video shows a Tesla Model 3 on Autopilot crashing into a truck

  • A Tesla Model 3 on Autopilot recently crashed into a stationary truck on a highway in Taiwan.
  • The Tesla crash was captured on video
  • The Model 3 driver was uninjured.

Video released over the weekend shows a Tesla Model 3 on Autopilot crashing into a truck that had fallen on its side. The incident took place on a highway in Taiwan and footage of the crash — which was obtained via nearby security cameras — has since gone viral. The Model 3 driver, it’s worth noting, emerged unscathed, which is a testament to Tesla’s impressive safety features.

As you’ll see below, the crash video is jarring for a few reasons. For starters, the Model 3 made absolutely no effort to brake before hitting the truck. For reasons we’ll get into shortly, it appears that the Autopilot software simply didn’t recognize there was an obstacle ahead.

The 10 best movies and shows coming to Netflix in June 2020

  • Netflix is adding dozens of shows and movies to its streaming service in June, but these are the ten we think you should add to your queue this month.
  • 13 Reasons Why and F is for Family are both returning for their fourth seasons, while Queer Eye will be on its fifth. This is also the final season of the breakout hit 13 Reasons Why.
  • Eric Andre’s first stand-up special should be absolutely insane.

Over the past three months, the only topics of discussion between myself, my friends, and my family (other than the increasingly chaotic state of the planet) have been the shows and movies we’ve been watching and the music we’ve been listening to. Netflix — in addition to other streaming services — has given us something to talk about when our lives are otherwise on pause, and though June is a relatively quiet month for Netflix compared to the rest of the year so far, there are several highlights worth pointing out, which we’ve done below.

Incredible video shows SpaceX’s Starship prototype exploding

  • SpaceX’s Starship prototype SN4 exploded during a static fire test on Friday, just hours before the second launch attempt of the Crew Dragon.
  • The two projects are completely different and the explosion had no impact on the NASA mission.
  • Video of the explosion shows the rocket prototype spilling what appears to be oxygen shortly before the explosion destroys the vehicle.

SpaceX had an incredibly eventful weekend. Its Crew Dragon capsule traveled to the International Space Station and for the first time ever it had astronauts along for the ride. It was a huge accomplishment for SpaceX and a very big deal for NASA, which desperately wants the ability to send humans into space whenever it desires.

Unfortunately, not everything swung in SpaceX’s direction, and a test of a SpaceX Starship prototype ended in the worst possible way on Friday. A static fire test — a test of the vehicle’s propulsion system without it leaving the ground — resulted in a massive explosion and a complete loss of the prototype known as SN4.

If there are more coronavirus stimulus checks, they may go to the neediest

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • There’s still plenty of speculation about when a new round of coronavirus stimulus checks might be approved and distributed, never mind that plenty of taxpayers are still waiting on their first check to arrive.
  • A number of ideas have been floated as to how to implement a new round, but some Senate Democrats are warming to one idea, in particular.
  • The idea is to target any new coronavirus stimulus checks at people who need them the most, unlike the much broader first round of checks.

It’s been overshadowed in the news by the unrelated tragedy that’s gripped the US in recent days, but the country is still very much in the throes of a pandemic — and political leaders are still grappling with how to respond to it, including the questions of if, when, and how to send out a new round of coronavirus stimulus checks.

At least one proposal that includes funding for new stimulus checks has already been passed by the House of Representatives. It’s run into a buzz saw of opposition in the Republican-controlled Senate, where leaders there are less inclined to commit billions of dollars in new coronavirus stimulus aid right now. Meantime, a surprising new development has just emerged that may have even more of an impact on who gets any future coronavirus stimulus checks.

Top Italian doctor claims that the coronavirus is disappearing

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Italy has seen an improvement in coronavirus statistics over the past few weeks, as the curve has been flattened significantly.
  • The country is opening up slowly, with some demanding more swift action from the government.
  • One doctor claims that the coronavirus “clinically no longer exists in Italy,” a claim that’s not backed by actual data.

The novel coronavirus has infected almost 6.3 million people as of Monday morning, with more than 375,000 people having died of COVID-19 complications. The curve has been flattened in many regions where life is resuming to some degree, but the threat isn’t gone. Some warn that a second peak is possible, and others expect a second wave at some point down the line, quite possibly in the fall.

What’s clear is that the virus hasn’t disappeared and won’t anytime soon. Experts say it might never be eradicated, though we hope to find effective drugs and vaccines to help us treat and prevent the illness. To say the virus has disappeared is incredibly misleading, at best, but that’s exactly what one Italian doctor has claimed.

Sony is already hinting at a high price for the PS5

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Sony has yet to announce its PS5 price, but in an interview last week, SIE CEO Jim Ryan said that the console will provide the “best possible value” but not the “lowest price.”
  • Sony will hold a PS5 reveal event on June 4th to show off games running on the console.
  • The price and release date of the PS5 are not expected to be revealed at the event.

Providing its plans haven’t changed, Sony will host a digital event on Thursday, June 4th to showcase “The Future of Gaming” on the PlayStation 5. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said that fans who tune in will get their first look at the games coming to the PS5, but he didn’t say anything about the hardware itself, leading us to believe that the price and release date of the console will not be revealed during this event.

Details like these may be weeks or even months away, but in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Ryan hinted at the price of the PS5, and, based on his comments, we shouldn’t expect anything budget-friendly.

Some of the most unforgettable photos and scenes from protests this weekend

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The George Floyd protests continued to multiply and escalate around the country over the weekend, resulting in everything from peaceful marches to violent clashes in major cities around the US.
  • The protests stem from Minneapolis police killing an unarmed man named George Floyd as he was taken into custody last week.
  • The protests also come as the coronavirus pandemic is still very much a part of American life, sparking fears of a second wave.

What a profound, unsettling, and historic weekend in America. It was a weekend dominated by massive protests across so many major US cities, plus the imposition of curfews, speculation on how an absent President Trump will respond to all this, peaceful marches mixed with violent clashes, and roundups of protestors across the country. All of it, of course, stemming from the Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd, an unarmed man who was restrained, placed on the ground, and who died after one of the cops kept his knee on Floyd’s neck.

If you opened any of your social media apps at all over the past weekend, you’ve already gotten a sampling of what’s been unfolding around the country over the past few days. As the week began, parts of cities from Boston to Los Angeles were still smoldering, as anger reigns in the country’s streets — at a time, we should add, when a pandemic is still underway. At the time of this writing, coronavirus infections in the US have reached almost 1.8 million, and more than 104,000 people have died from the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University.

A drug that provides temporary coronavirus immunity started human trials

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Companies working on brand new coronavirus drugs meant to treat COVID-19 and provide limited immunity are approaching human trials.
  • Monoclonal antibodies are artificially grown antibodies based on the ones the immune system develops when fighting off the coronavirus infection.
  • Eli Lilly is the first pharmaceutical company to have started human testing, with the Phase 1 drug trial already underway at several US hospitals.

The coronavirus epicenter moved from China to Europe to the US and then South America in a matter of months. As some outbreaks die down following successful tactics meant to flatten the curve, others flare up. And even as the number of new coronavirus cases drops in some regions, the risk of further outbreaks doesn’t disappear. We’ll still have to avoid crowds, wear masks, and wash our hands often throughout the day for the foreseeable future, and that’s because anybody can be infected.

The good news is that we’ve come a long way when it comes to treating COVID-19. Some of the meds that had been developed to treat other diseases work against the novel coronavirus as well, and vaccines are already showing plenty of promise. On top of that, researchers around the world are studying a brand new type of drug that’s been engineered specifically to fight off the COVID-19 infection. The first human trial for this type of medicine has already started, and the treatment could be available to patients long before vaccines are ready.

Sony postpones PS5 games showcase due to protests

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Sony announced on Monday that its PS5 games showcase scheduled for June 4th has been delayed due to the protests over the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota.
  • In a statement, Sony explained that this is not “a time to celebrate” and that it would rather “stand back and allow more important voices to be heard.”
  • Sony did not announce a new time or date for the PS5 showcase.

Following the protests that took place across the United States and even spread around the world this past weekend, Sony has decided that now is not the right time for celebration. Last week, Sony announced an online showcase that would give gamers a first look at PlayStation 5 games in action. The event was scheduled to take place on June 4th at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET, but on Monday, Sony officially postponed the event.

Apple just released the first iOS 13.5.5 beta for the iPhone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple just released its first iOS 13.5.5 beta and iPadOS 13.5.5 developer beta on Monday.
  • The release came shortly after the public releases of iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1, which appear to have been security fixes to kill the new iOS jailbreak tool.
  • It’s unclear what the main improvements and updates are in iOS 13.5.5, but it’s expected to be a minor interim release following iOS 13.5, which was a more significant update.

Shortly after releasing iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1 to the general public, Apple on Monday released a new version of its mobile software platforms for developers. The first iOS 13.5.5 and iPadOS 13.5.5 betas are now available to developers as over the air updates.

iOS 13.5 is the first version of the software to feature the API for Apple’s contact tracing technology, which the company developed in collaboration with Google. Authorized developers can use the API to build apps of their own to trace people who test positive for COVID-19, which will be a vital step in the process of beating the coronavirus and getting back to normal.

In addition to the API, iOS 13.5 also brought an improvement to Face ID that makes it easier to unlock your iPhone when you are wearing a mask. Once you download the update, your iPhone will automatically skip to the passcode screen rather than trying to scan your face through the mask. You can also disable larger tiles in Group FaceTime video calls, in case you don’t want anyone’s face to dominate the entire screen.
