Apple just released iOS 13.5 beta 4 for developers
- Apple rolled out iOS 13.5 developer beta 4 and iPadOS 13.5 developer beta 4 on Wednesday.
- iOS 13.5 has the exposure notification API from Apple and Google that health agency developers will use to build apps for contact tracing of people who test positive for the novel coronavirus.
- iOS 13.5 also features improvements to the Facetime app and Face ID.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
One week after Apple dropped the confusingly-named iOS 13.5 beta 3 (despite the previous version of the operating system being iOS 13.4.5 beta 2), another beta has already taken its place. iOS 13.5 is the first version of the software to feature the API for Apple’s contact tracing technology, which the company developed in collaboration with Google. Authorized developers can use the API to build apps of their own to trace people who test positive for COVID-19, which will be a vital step in the process of beating the coronavirus and getting back to normal.
In addition to the API, iOS 13.5 also brought an improvement to Face ID that makes it easier to unlock your iPhone when you are wearing a mask. Once you download the update, your iPhone will automatically skip to the passcode screen rather than trying to scan your face through the mask. You can also disable larger tiles in Group FaceTime video calls, in case you don’t want anyone’s face to dominate the entire screen.

A black hole has been hiding surprisingly close to Earth
- A black hole was discovered lurking quietly in a system just 1,000 light-years from Earth.
- The black hole, which is part of the system called HR 6819, is the closest black hole scientists have ever spotted.
- The researchers suggest that there are likely other black holes hiding nearby, invisible to us.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Black holes are interesting things. We know they exist — and only recently had the opportunity to actually capture an image of one — but they’re typically very far away or are obscured from our view. They’re also invisible thanks to the fact that they gobble up light, making them even harder to detect.
Now, a team of astronomers at the European Southern Observatory have announced the discovery of a black hole that is much, much closer than any before it. It’s hiding out in a system just 1,000 light-years from Earth, and initially, it escaped the eyes of scientists.

There is no question whatsoever right now as far as which product is the most popular among BGR Deals readers. Amazon’s best-selling face masks are literally flying off the virtual store shelves, and it’s easy to see why since the CDC recommends that all of us wear face masks like these every single time we have to leave our homes. Sure you can make your own using t-shirts and DIY instructions you find online, but these are far more effective and they’re only $0.80 each. It’s certainly easy to see why they’re so popular.
As important as face masks are right now — though we should note that they’re only effective when used in combination with strict social distancing and good hygiene — there are other things our readers have been buying up as well. One example is smart plugs, which also makes sense. We’re all stuck at home for quite a while, so why not spend some of that time indoors creating cool smart home solutions?
Another reason smart plugs are so popular right now is because of sales like the one we’re about to show you. Aoycocr Mini Smart Plugs are some of the most popular ones we cover, and they’re also very well-rated on Amazon. 4-packs typically cost $33, which is the going rate on Amazon for many brands, but there’s a sale right now that slashes them down to the lowest price we’ve seen in months. Just use the coupon code 40ULRNRJ at checkout and you can pick up a 4-pack of Aoycocr Mini Smart Plugs for just $19.79 total. That’s only $4.95 per plug!

A man let a murder hornet sting him on purpose and the video is insane
- Murder Hornets are terrifyingly large and recently made their way to the United States.
- Some females can grow to be more than 2 inches long.
- Murder Hornets have an incredibly painful bite, but one man decided to get stung on purpose and record his experience.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
2020 is going to be a year for the record books for all the wrong reasons. In what has effectively been one calamity after another, the year started off with wildfires sweeping across Australia, only to be followed by the tragic death of Kobe Bryant. And just when you thought the storm had passed, the coronavirus pandemic sprung up out of nowhere, killing more than 250,000 people across the globe and bringing some of the world’s biggest economies to a standstill in the process.
With the U.S. still trying to get a handle on the coronavirus and keep it from spreading even further, a new threat has emerged: giant hornets from Asia that some have taken to calling Murder Hornets. While some insects or animals have names that make them sound scarier than they actually are, murder hornets are legitimately terrifying and have recently made their way into the United States.

- Anova is one of the biggest brands in the at-home sous vide cooker market and its new Precision Cooker and Precision Cooker Pro are by far the most impressive sous vide models Anova has released so far.
- They’re both in stock right now on Amazon, and they have both been discounted for the first time since being released.

It might seem like ages ago, but it actually hasn’t been that long since sous vide cookers were only used by professional chefs in fancy restaurants. These days, however, anyone can cook delicious meals with a sous vide cooker right at home. There are a few brands that we have to thank for the boom in popularity of at-home sous vide machines, and there’s no question that Anova is at the top of the list.
Anova’s various sous vide models have been best-sellers for years, and each new generation is more impressive than the last. That remains true of the latest and greatest new models that were just released in 2020. The Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker and Anova Sous Vide Precision Cooker Pro take everything that’s great about Anova’s earlier models and improve upon it.
The Pro model is also the company’s first to feature an all-metal build and a new design with a rectangular display that shows much more information than earlier models. It also has 200W of extra power compared to the regular model, and it lasts twice as long with the ability to cook for 10,000 continuous hours. Both new models are in stock right now at Amazon, and either one will make your time in coronavirus quarantine much more delicious.
Now, for the first time since they were released, both the Precision Cooker and the Precision Cooker Pro have been discounted on Amazon. The former drops from $199 to $149, which is a nice $50 discount. The big news is the Precision Cooker Pro, however. It normally rings up at $399, which is well out of reach for many people. Pick one up today at Amazon, however, and you’ll only pay $199! That’s a massive $200 discount and it won’t last long.

New coronavirus study makes a startling revelation
- A new peer-reviewed study says the novel coronavirus has been spreading worldwide since late December, possibly much earlier than detected.
- Even still, the study says the virus hasn’t been circulating for a long enough time to allow communities to develop herd immunity.
- Up to 10% of the global population might have been exposed to SARS-CoV-2, the study says. So far, more than 3.75 million people have been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
A new study claims that there are several novel coronavirus strains out there, as the virus has undergone several mutations from its original form. The research, which is yet to be reviewed by peers, says the dominant strain is more contagious, although that doesn’t necessarily make it more lethal or resistant to any of the many vaccine candidates. More data is definitely needed before we can draw any conclusions. But it turns out that’s not the only study looking at the genetics of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
A different study that has already been validated by other scientists seems to back recent findings from Italy, France, and the US, confirming the startling discovery that the virus began spreading worldwide much earlier than we thought. The bad news is that it hasn’t been spreading to such an extent to lead to herd immunity.

Our readers have been going crazy all week long for Amazon’s deals on Apple’s true wireless noise cancelling earbuds, which is totally understandable since AirPods Pro happen to be on sale at Black Friday’s all-time low price. Even more people rushed to get their hands on Pacli 3-Ply Face Masks, which are now just $0.80 each and are ready to ship. Those deals are fantastic indeed, but there’s another batch of bargains we need to tell you about before they disappear.
Amazon may have shifted much of its focus away from shipping nonessential products so that it can ship more medical supplies to hospitals and state governments. It may have also hidden its deals page temporarily, though we already told you the trick to finding it. None of that can stop Amazon from offering fantastic deals on its own Amazon devices though, and there are a whopping 10 different device deals that we need to tell you about right now.
First up, Amazon’s wildly popular Fire TV Stick 4K is on sale at its lowest price ever with coupon code 4KFIRETV, but there’s a catch: this deal is only available to select customers. You can learn more here, but the gist of it is you’ll only find out if the coupon works for you by trying it.

Hurry up and you can actually buy hand sanitizer on Amazon
- Amazon has had best-selling face masks in stock for the past couple of weeks, which is huge since the CDC recommends that we wear them anytime we go outside right now.
- Hand sanitizer is also a must-have, but it has been much more difficult to come by online and it’s still sold out at supermarkets across the country.
- If you hurry over to Amazon right now, you’ll find that two different types of best-selling hand sanitizers are actually in stock right now including very strong sanitizer with 75% alcohol.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If you visit the CDC’s coronavirus page right now, you’ll see some important instructions that everyone should be following right now. If you leave the house for any reason, no matter what that reason is or where you’re going, you need to wear a face mask. It doesn’t have to be a medical-grade N95 mask. In fact, it shouldn’t be since they’re still in such short supply among healthcare workers and first responders. All you need is a simple cloth face covering, which is more than good enough to do the job when combined with strict social distancing and good hygiene.
Some people use scarves or they make their own masks using DIY instructions shared online, but Amazon’s best-selling face masks are back in stock right now and they only cost $0.78 apiece. There’s no telling how much longer they’ll stay in stock, of course, so definitely order a box or three now while you still can. But do you know what’s even rarer than face masks to see on Amazon these days? Hand sanitizer — and it’s somehow back in stock right now and ready to ship!
Hurry and you can pick up a 5-pack of BushKlawz 75% Alcohol Instant Hand Sanitizer for $23.99, which is actually a pretty decent price these days. This sanitizer came from out of nowhere and it’s definitely going to sell out fast, so hurry or you’ll miss this rare opportunity. It has 75% ethyl alcohol which is even more than the recommended amount, so you can be certain it’ll kill off all the bacteria and viruses that might be on your hands.
BushKlawz Eco Finest 5 Pack of 2 oz Rinse Free 75% Alcohol Instant Hand Sanitizer (5x Pack of 2…: $23.99 ($4.80 per 2 oz. bottle)
In addition to those 2-ounce bottles, you’ll also find 8-ounce spray bottles of Zatural Waterless Hand Cleaner in stock and 2-packs are only $24.99 right now. They ship quickly compared to other options and they also have moisturizers mixed in so you don’t have to worry about drying out your hands too much. This hand sanitizer is a 62% ethyl alcohol mix, so it’s right in line with the CDC’s recommendations.
Waterless Hand Cleaner – 62% Alcohol – 4 Thieves Essential Oil Synergy (8oz Spray (2 Pack)): $24.99 ($12.50 per 8 oz. bottle)
Last but certainly not least, you can pick up a 2-pack of Wish 62% Alcohol Hand Sanitizer in 2-ounce bottles for just $8.88, making it some of the least expensive sanitizer we’ve seen on Amazon. These will sell out fast though, so hurry.
Wish Hand Sanitizer 2oz 2PK Blister Card: $8.88 ($4.44 per 2 oz. bottle)
