It looks like we know when the first iPhone 12 model will enter production
- Apple will reportedly begin production of the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models as early as July, ahead of the other two models that are expected to launch this fall.
- Apple’s staggered production schedule is reportedly due to touch modules that need to be outsourced for the 6.1-inch models, but not for the 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models.
- The report claims that the iPhone 12 launch “is likely to be in October.”
When the novel coronavirus pandemic began earlier this year, and virtually every major developer conference, reveal event, and trade show was postponed or canceled, it seemed inevitable that product launches would be affected, too. After all, factories all over the world were being shut down to stop the spread of the coronavirus and keep employees safe. Yet, for the most part, everything has stayed on schedule, including the release of new MacBook Air, iPad Pro, and iPhone SE models. And a new report suggests that the iPhone 12 will launch on time as well.
According to DigiTimes, volume production of the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models will begin in July-August ahead of other 2020 models later this year. As noted by MacRumors, the reasoning for the staggered timing is because the two 6.1-inch models will use touch modules that have to be outsourced to other supply chain partners. Meanwhile, 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch models are said to use OLED panels from Samsung, which come with Y-OCTA technology. These Y-OCTA panels have touch sensors built-in and don’t require a separate touch layer.

How coronavirus is hurting people even if they don’t catch the disease
- Two new studies show that the novel coronavirus is impacting mental health as well because of two separate side-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Millions of people lost their jobs as lockdown measures intensified, prompting many to worry about their finances more than usual.
- Some patients who suffer from mental health issues that require support also said they had less access to help than before, and the available support wasn’t as effective.
The novel coronavirus hasn’t disappeared, although news detailing the pandemic may have taken a back seat to the increased coverage the George Floyd protests have received in previous days. The widespread movement against police brutality is all happening against the COVID-19 backdrop. The infection is still there and new outbreaks can occur without notice, even though many countries are slowly opening up to some sense of normalcy following more than two months of lockdowns and strict social distancing measures.
You may have escaped the coronavirus for the time being, but that doesn’t mean you’re in perfect health. Many people ignored other medical conditions because of the COVID-19 scare. And many more people may suffer from various mental health issues that may have been exacerbated during the lockdowns. Two new studies show that COVID-19 is affecting mental health, which could turn out to be a serious issue if we have to endure a second wave in the coming weeks and months.

iOS 13.5.1 out now on iPhone with ‘important security updates’
- Apple just rolled out iOS 13.5.1 and iPadOS 13.5.1 for the public to download.
- Apple says that iOS 13.5.1 “provides important security updates and is recommended for all users,” but has yet to offer any additional details about what security issues were addressed.
- Hackers on Twitter have said that the update patches the kernal vulnerability in iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 used by the new unc0ver jailbreak tool.
Nearly two weeks after the launch of iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Apple is out with a seemingly minor update that is said to address security issues. “This update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users,” the company says in the release notes for iOS 13.5.1, which you can download now on your device. To be clear, this is not a beta release, so anyone can get it right away.
It’s worth noting that this update also comes just days after a massive jailbreak for every device capable of running iOS 13.5 was released, which makes it seem possible that this update is solely to combat the unc0ver jailbreak tool. In fact, one of the hackers behind the tool said as much on Twitter just moments ago.
For those who have yet to upgrade to iOS 13.5, the update includes the Exposure Notification API for developers to make contact tracing apps, improvements for Face ID so that users can unlock their devices more easily while they’re wearing a mask, the ability to stop tiles from changing sizes on Group FaceTime calls, and an option to automatically share important health information with emergency services when you call them.

- This sleep mask is also remarkably comfortable thanks to soft materials and memory foam.
Our readers have bought tens of thousands of boxes of coronavirus face masks over the past couple of months, and now is a good time to stock up on them again for two reasons. First, they’re down to the lowest price ever at just 60¢ per mask. And second, we’re a month or two away from the inevitable coronavirus second wave, so you might as well stock up on them now before they’re hard to find again.
Today, there’s a different type of mask we want to talk about: A sleep mask.
If you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, a mask is likely the last thing on your mind. Traditional sleep masks are great for blocking out light, but they don’t really do anything to address the most common reasons that people tend to have trouble sleeping. The Lightimetunnel Sleep Mask, on the other hand, is an entirely different type of mask. It’s thicker and more comfortable than anything else you’ve seen before, and it also has a feature you won’t find on any common sleep masks: built-in headphones and Bluetooth. This way you can stream soothing music to help you fall asleep and keep you asleep, but you don’t have to worry about uncomfortable earbuds or headphones that inevitably fall off.
The Lightimetunnel Sleep Mask is already a great value at just under $23 or at $21.46 if you grab one while there’s a 5% coupon on Amazon. Definitely check it out.

Look at the crazy plastic pods restaurants are using to protect people from coronavirus
- A French designer invented a plastic cylinder designed to be placed around restaurant patrons as they eat to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
- The product, called “Plex’Eat,” is being put into production and will be sold to more restaurants soon.
- There are a number of drawbacks to this approach, but the inventor claims he has interest from restaurants in several different countries and plans to produce the shields for retail.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected the restaurant industry in some severe and profound ways. Dining rooms were shuttered nationwide and eateries were forced to mobilize delivery options as fast as possible. Now, as restrictions in some regions begin to loosen, restaurants are forced to come up with new ways of protecting their patrons and preventing the dreaded second wave of new infections.
Once French designer has come up with what he believes is a solution to the problem. It looks a little bit odd, but the so-called “Plex’Eat” dining cylinder is designed to act as a protective shield that blocks the spread of the coronavirus and other airborne illnesses while still allowing you to eat out with friends and family.

Apple Watch Series 5 has a massive $100 discount at Amazon
- The Apple Watch Series 5 price on Amazon has been discounted a few times in the past couple of months, but Monday marks the first time that both the 40mm and 44mm versions have been available at all-time low prices at the same time in their best-selling color and finish.
- That’s right, the Space Gray aluminum model with a black Sport Band is on sale with a huge $100 discount in both 40mm and 44mm sizes.
- These deals each involve a $15 on-site discount plus an additional $85 discount that is applied at checkout, and both models are likely to sell out soon.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
It pretty much goes without saying that every new generation of an Apple product is better than all the generations that preceded it. Apple’s not going to spend all that time and money developing new devices that are inferior, after all. That said, some upgrades are more substantial than others and people who own an Apple Watch Series 5 tend to boat about it more than most.
Compared to early versions of the Apple Watch, the Series 5 model is definitely better in every way. It’s far faster and more powerful thanks to the 64-bit dual-core S5 processor that is up to two times faster than the S3 chipset that powers the only other model that’s still available, the Apple Watch Series 3. It also has a larger AMOLED display with thinner bezels for a much better look, as well as a new always-on feature so you don’t have to wait for your watch face to light up to see the time and all your beloved complications.
Heart rate monitoring is of course still a central feature of the Apple Watch, but Apple’s Series 5 model also adds a built-in ECG app that’s unlike anything that has come before it thanks to electrical and optical heart sensors. It can call emergency services if you fall and warn you about an irregular heart rate, and so much more. Heck, it’s even “swimproof” so you can wear it in the pool or shower and not have to worry about it getting damaged.
Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS, 40mm) – Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Sport Band: $299.99
Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS, 44mm) – Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Sport Band: $329.99
Needless to say, all that comes with a fairly steep price tag that can reach well over $1,000 depending on the model you choose. That said, Amazon is offering some fantastic discounts that can save you a bunch of money on Apple’s latest and greatest smartwatches. Prices start at just $299.99 for an Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS, 40mm) with a Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Sport Band, which normally sells for $400. Note that in some cases like this one, there’s an additional discount that’s applied by Amazon at checkout.
If that version is too small, you can also pick up the same Apple Watch Series 5 in Space Gray with a 44mm case instead for just $329.99. That’s also a $100 discount just like the smaller version, and it won’t last long. Note that each watch has just a $15 discount on the product pages, but extra $85 discounts are applied at checkout.

Get the $450 Roomba 891 for $299.99 in Amazon’s special 1-day sale
- Looking for the best Roomba for pet hair that’s available at an affordable price? You’ve come to the right place, but you’ll have to hurry or you’ll miss out.
- For one day only, Amazon is offering a big $150 discount on the popular Roomba 891 robot vacuum cleaner, slashing the price to just $299.99 instead of $450.
- If you want a huge upgrade and you’re willing to spend more than twice as much, the Roomba i7+ that empties itself after it cleans has an even bigger $200 discount on Monday.
There are so many robot vacuums out there these days that have unbelievably low prices. What’s more, many of them are rated just as high on Amazon as more expensive Roomba robot vacuum models. Can you really get a robotic vacuum cleaner for half the price of a Roomba? The answer is yes, but there’s a big asterisk. If you’re only cleaning up dust and very light dirt, just about any robot vacuum will do. If it has to tangle with pet hair and other cleanups that are a bit trickier, you’re going to want a Roomba.
As it happens, Amazon is running a fantastic sale right now on the iRobot Roomba 891 Robot Vacuum, a top-rated model that can take care of stubborn pet hair with ease. It also has a very powerful motor that’s still somehow nice and quiet, and it even works with Alexa voice commands. All those features typically cost $450, but Amazon’s special one-day sale slashes the price down to just $299.99. That’s a phenomenal deal!
If you’re willing to pay a bit more, you’ll also find that the $1,000 Roomba i7+ that empties itself when it’s done cleaning is on sale right now with an even bigger $200 discount. If $799.99 is a bit too hefty a price tag for you, the Roomba 891 for just $299.99 is the best deal you’ll find.
iRobot Roomba 891 Robot Vacuum- Wi-Fi Connected, Works with Alexa, Ideal for Pet Hair, Carpets,…: $299.99

- AeroForce 3-Stage Cleaning System uses Tangle-free Multi-Surface Brushes and Power-Lifting Suction with 5x the air power* to pull in embedded dirt, debris, and pet hair from wherever it hides.
- Using a full suite of smart sensors, the Roomba robot vacuum makes more than 60 decisions per second to adapt to your home and help thoroughly clean your floors. Cliff detect sensors avoid stairs and other drop-offs.
- The Edge-Sweeping Brush is specially designed at a 27-degree angle to sweep debris away from edges and corners.
- Advanced Dirt Detect sensors recognize concentrated areas of dirt, like in high-traffic zones of your home, and provide additional cleaning in those spots.

Dr. Fauci finally has some good news about the coronavirus second wave
- Dr. Anthony Fauci says a coronavirus second wave is possible, but not inevitable.
- Speaking in an interview with CNN, the doctor said that we don’t have to accept the second wave of infections as a sure thing, and we should do everything in our power to mitigate the risk of another large spike in new cases.
- Fauci says that guidelines need to be followed, including self-isolation and contact tracing, in order for us to avoid a new increase in cases.
Ever since we began to get a slight hold on the rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic, fears of a dreaded “coronavirus second wave” have permeated news coverage and press conferences from health experts. It’s true that a second wave — i.e. another huge spike in cases after a calm period — is potentially in the cards for us. But Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease expert, says that it may be possible for us to avoid it.
After repeatedly warning that we should prepare for a potentially dramatic increase in the number of new coronavirus cases, Fauci told CNN that there’s reason to be hopeful that we can avoid it. The key to making that more optimistic outlook a reality is action.
