These coronavirus-killing UV phone sanitizers will definitely sell out soon
- Clorox wipes are great for killer germs including coronaviruses on your smartphone, but they’re still impossible to find in stock anywhere.
- Since smartphones are notorious breeding grounds for all sorts of bacteria and viruses, the lack of Clorox and Lysol wipes has led to a boom in popularity for UV-C smartphone sanitizers.
- These little devices are essential, and there are finally several good models that are back in stock and ready to ship from Amazon.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Have you been wondering when smartphone sanitizers might finally be back in stock on Amazon? You’re definitely not alone since they’re among the best-selling products we have covered lately. In fact, they would probably be at the top of the list if not for then fact that face masks have been selling by the tens of thousands now that they’re in stock on Amazon.
Everyone knows that smartphones are breeding grounds for all sorts of bacteria and yes, viruses as well. In the age of coronavirus, you really can’t be too safe. 10 hottest new shows on Netflix and TV that people can’t wait to see in May
- May is a huge month for new premieres on TV, Netflix, and other popular streaming media services.
- Several hotly anticipated new shows are set to premiere over the course of the month, including Space Force on Netflix, Upload on Amazon Prime Video, and DC’s Stargirl.
- There are also plenty of new seasons of beloved returning show coming in May, and here we cover the cream of the crop that people can’t wait to watch in May 2020.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Coronavirus quarantine continues, and there’s no end in sight at the moment. In fact, since some states are already starting to ease restrictions and reopen nonessential businesses prematurely, the odds of a severe second wave of COVID-19 infections in many regions just increased exponentially. We all know there’s going to be a second wave, of course. It’s inevitable. But we were all hoping for a bit of a break before it arrives and based on the chatter we’ve all seen, it doesn’t look like that will be the case.
Responsible Americans across the country will continue to shelter in place regardless of whether or not restrictions start to ease this month in their areas. Apart from keeping yourself and your family safe, you’ll also be doing healthcare workers a favor by slowing the spread of the virus. That means you’re going to be spending a whole lot more time indoors at home, so it’s a very good thing that May is such a busy month when it comes to hotly anticipated premieres on TV and streaming media services.

Of course, you can get protection that’s nearly as good if you decide to make your own face masks.
Just last month we gave our readers an awesome guide that explained how to make coronavirus face masks at home quickly and easily. In fact, those DIY face masks are so easy to make that you don’t even have to sew. Most of the materials you need to make those particular masks are simple things that you already have lying around your house. There are really only two things you need that might not already be readily available, and they’re both in stock and shipping now from Amazon. Definitely check out our guide for more details.
As we said, those masks are great because they’re very easy to make and they’re far more effective than just a t-shirt or a scarf. That said, they’re nowhere near as effective as medical-grade face masks that some people wear. The CDC is quite clear that “any face covering is better than nothing,” but you still shouldn’t buy N95 face masks even if you do manage to find them online or in a nearby store. Doctors, nurses, first responders, and others on the front lines of the war against the novel coronavirus have a far greater need than you do, and there is still a terrible shortage of masks and other PPE.
While it’s true that something is better than nothing, there are certainly degrees of effectiveness based on the materials and design you use. The masks in the guide linked above are more effective than any basic cloth masks, for example, but now we’ve found a guide for DIY coronavirus face masks that are even more effective than those. The guide comes from the same YouTube channel, and the vlogger basically tried to reverse-engineer an N95 mask. The end result is NOT as effective as a medical-grade respirator, of course, but it’s easily one of the best face mask designs we’ve come across. In fact, it even has its own integrated virus neutralizer.
That said, this mask is a bit more complicated than the one above and there are definitely more materials that you’ll need to make it. Here’s the full materials list:
- Virus Neutralizer
- Outer Layer: Option 1, option 2, option 3
- Middle Layer
- Inside Layer
- Oil Absorbing Pads
- Silicone
- Silicone gun
- White Tape
- Black Tape
- Elastic
Once you’ve got all that ready to go, you’ll find all the instructions you need in the video embedded below.
Here’s a better breakdown of the materials and prices:

Fauci says there’s no evidence coronavirus was made in a Chinese lab
- Dr. Anthony Fauci said in a new interview that there’s no scientific evidence to support the idea that the novel coronavirus was created by man.
- The expert also said that theories saying the COVID-19 virus escaped accidentally from a lab make little sense. For that to happen, the infection already had to exist in the wild.
- Fauci reiterated findings from the scientific community that is already backed up by US intelligence findings and contradicted Mike Pompeo’s recent remarks on the origin of the virus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The first coronavirus origin conspiracy theories appeared as soon as it became clear China was dealing with a new disease back in early January. Since then, it spread like wildfire with the help of social media. But, thankfully, the scientific community was quick to step in and make things clear. The novel coronavirus was not man-made, scientists said, after examining the genetic structure of the virus. Even so, a second coronavirus origin conspiracy theory appeared, that the virus may have escaped from the Wuhan lab, after someone may have become infected with a bat virus they were studying.
A few days ago, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirmed that COVID-19 isn’t the result of genetic engineering, agreeing with the scientific community. However, it added it’s still investigating the origin of the virus, including the theory that it could have escaped from a lab. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo then fumbled that response by saying there’s “enormous evidence” the virus came from the Chinese lab, without presenting any of the evidence.
Dr. Anthony Fauci has now cleared the matter for good, explaining there’s no evidence to suggest the virus was developed by humans and explained why the theory that says the virus could have escaped accidentally doesn’t make sense.

Apple and Google show what coronavirus contact tracing apps will look like
- Apple and Google released concept images of how a coronavirus contact tracing app built on top of their common API would look like.
- The screenshots explain how a user can enroll in the process, how they can register a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, and how exposure notifications will look like.
- Neither Apple nor Google will build tracing apps of their own. Instead, authorities will rely on the API to code apps for their countries or communities.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple and Google have developed a standard API that authorities can use to create coronavirus contact tracing apps for specific countries or communities. These apps rely on a phone’s Bluetooth connectivity to ping nearby devices and create local records of that handshake. When one of those users reports they have been diagnosed COVID-19 positive, a database will record that event. The phones enrolled in the tracing program will check that database with some regularity, and that’s how they’ll discover a record that one of their contacts tested positive in the past 14 days. That’s when the user of the phone is notified that he or she may have been exposed to a coronavirus patient at some point in the past couple of weeks. Everything happens anonymously, with randomized ID numbers being assigned to phones and end-to-end encryption protecting data transmission. No user data is collected in the process, and users can opt out of the contact tracing app if they so desire. The whole concept is a lot easier to explain with images, and Apple and Google have both released concept screenshots of how these apps may look like.

Want to pretend you’re on the Moon? Just move to Montana
- Moonrock analogs can be found right here on Earth, and Montana is now a major source of simulated lunar material for NASA.
- The mineral anorthosite is common on the Moon, but more difficult to find here on Earth.
- A mining location in Montana has proven to be a treasure trove of the mineral, which is a big score for scientists.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The Moon is awesome. I mean, at least from afar it certainly seems pretty cool. You could stare at high-resolution photos of the Moon for hours and never really get bored, there’s just so much to take in. We can’t live on the Moon (yet), of course, but once the option is available I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love to try.
In the meantime, if you’re searching for a place on Earth that bears a resemblance to the lunar surface, NASA says Montana is a good place to look.

Cool AR demo shows how you can copy and paste a real-life object
- A new demo shows how Augmented Reality might allow users to copy a real-world object and paste it into software on their computer.
- Augmented Reality hasn’t yet transformed into the game-changing feature many people assumed it would be, but it’s still far too early to know how it will evolve in the coming years.
- In the interim, companies like Google and Apple continue to invest heavily in AR.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The interesting thing about the technology space is that there’s often no telling what the next big thing is going to be. The coronavirus pandemic, for example, catapulted Zoom to an astounding level of popularity that would have been unheard of just a few short months ago. Incidentally, Zoom’s explosive user growth ultimately prompted Google and Facebook to up their own video chat offerings.
On the other side of the coin, many technologies that are heralded as the wave of the future never quite manage to make as big of an impact as initially anticipated. 3D TVs and Apple’s now-defunct 3D Touch are just two quick examples.

Marvel insider says Deadpool might start making cameos in the MCU
- A Marvel insider who spoiled several significant events in Avengers: Endgame claims Deadpool will have regular cameos in the MCU after Deadpool 3.
- The new Deadpool movie hasn’t been officially announced, but Ryan Reynolds has addressed it more seriously than before in a recent interview.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Several governments around the world are currently looking at strategies that will allow them to slowly open their economies, but life won’t return to normal anytime soon. The novel coronavirus is still a major threat and outbreaks are still possible. We don’t have medicine that can reduce the mortality risk significantly, we’re far from herd immunities, and vaccines probably won’t even be ready for emergency use until late 2020.
That means we’ll have to practice social distancing in the coming months and years until the risk of contracting the COVID-19 disease is significantly diminished. While we wait for the economy to open up, including the entertainment business, we have more exciting rumors for a particular category of moviegoers.
Marvel fans will be happy to hear that not only is Ryan Reynolds almost ready to speak publicly about Deadpool 3, but an insider says that Deadpool might become a recurring fixture of the MCU in the future.

Netflix users stream over 3 hours a day while in quarantine
- A data analysis earlier this year showed that streaming video consumption increases substantially when there is a disruptive event such as the coronavirus pandemic.
- Netflix VP for original content Cindy Holland has said that the average Netflix user spent two hours a day on the streaming service in 2019.
- Combining these figures, KilltheCableBill projects that Netflix users are streaming shows and movies for over three hours a day on average while quarantined.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
As sick as we all are of being cooped up inside due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, streaming has been a vital lifeline keeping us relatively sane. Personally, I’ve been watching shows and movies I never would have made time for before the pandemic, like Onward on Disney+ and ESPN’s Michael Jordan documentary. Both are way more entertaining than I would have expected, and if not for being in quarantine, I know I wouldn’t have watched either of them. And based on the latest figures, I’m not the only one carving out more time for streaming.

Mysterious radio burst detected inside our home galaxy
- Fast radio bursts (or FRBs for short) are mysterious blasts of energy scientists have detected from deep space.
- For the first time ever, an FRB was detected coming from within our own home galaxy, the Milky Way, offering scientists an opportunity to explain how they originate.
- It’s now believed that a type of neutron star called a magnetar may be responsible for this local FRB, as well as other fast radio bursts observed coming from other galaxies.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Of all the unknowns in science, one of the biggest mysteries is the origin of what are called fast radio bursts, or FRBs. FRBs are powerful blasts of radio energy that typically seem to come out of nowhere. Scientists can detect them as they reach Earth, but tracing their origins has proven to be an incredibly difficult puzzle to solve.
Many FRBs appear once and then disappear forever. Rarely, an FRB will repeat, beaming a signal from deep in space but appearing to originate from the same point, relative to Earth. Now, for the first time ever, an FRB was detected that appears to have originated from within our own home galaxy, the Milky Way.
