Hubble spotted a comet in the midst of disintegrating, and it’s stunning
- The Hubble Space Telescope has captured images of a comet in the midst of fragmentation.
- Observations of comets as they break up are incredibly rare, and scientists are eager to study and compare the Hubble images in order to learn more about how the process unfolds.
- The comet, C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) was only just spotted in late 2019, so scientists seem to have caught it just in time to see it crumble.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The Hubble Space Telescope, an aging workhorse for NASA and the European Space Agency, is great at capturing images of distance features of our galaxy and even other galaxies, but that doesn’t mean it’s always looking to the horizon for objects of interest. As evidence of that, the telescope just spotted something pretty special right here in our neck of the woods.
Comet C/2019 (ATLAS) is breaking up. Scientists haven’t had long to study the comet, as it was discovered in December 2019, but as a new set of Hubble images reveals, it’s now breaking up right before our very eyes.

This coronavirus vaccine might be just a few months away from release
- A new coronavirus vaccine candidate from Germany has entered human trials, and it might be ready for emergency use as soon as this fall.
- Vaccine candidate BNT162 was administered to volunteers in Germany, although healthy American adults will also be included in the trial.
- BioNTech is working with Pfizer on the drug that has the potential of preventing a COVID-19 infection.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Remdesivir may be the talk of the town right now because the anti-viral that was initially developed to treat Ebola will become standard care for COVID-19 patients, according to Dr. Anthony Fauci. The drug may not prevent deaths, but the preliminary findings of a massive study show it can reduce the recovery time in patients infected with the novel coronavirus. While COVID-19 complications can still appear, the drug may help patients recover faster and reduce their stays in hospitals. That could be of enormous help to both the patients and the medical centers treating large numbers of COVID-19 patients, especially once a second wave inevitably hits.
The anti-viral isn’t a “miracle cure,” but those drugs are also in the making. They’re vaccines, if you were wondering, and some 90 different candidates are already in the works. A brand new one from Germany just reached the human trials phase, and it could be available to millions of people as soon as this fall.

Can’t get your stimulus check info? Try this simple fix
- The coronavirus stimulus check tracker launched by the IRS has been giving many people an error message when they visit the site — a message like “payment status not available.”
- The IRS launched that tool after Congress passed its $2.2 trillion stimulus legislation that appropriated billions of dollars for direct checks to Americans.
- If you get that message, here’s a workaround you can try to fix it.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
For a few weeks now, I’ve been checking the IRS’s coronavirus stimulus payment website once a day to see whether the tax agency finally says I’m eligible for the direct payments funded by last months’ $2.2 trillion stimulus legislation passed by Congress. It took a while to finally get that confirmation at the site, which kept giving me a “payment status not available” error message.
The site, by the way, is a tracker launched by the IRS — which is the agency mailing out the stimulus payments that amount to direct cash infusions to most Americans of up to $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples, including an extra $500 for each qualifying child. No surprise, it’s been inundated with traffic as Americans desperate for their direct payment from the government check on its status at a time when the jobless rate in the country is approaching levels not seen since the Great Depression. But what if you keep getting the error message that I saw?

Fire TV Stick 4K is just $25 if you know about this secret Amazon coupon
- Head over to Amazon’s daily deals page, which is now hidden on the site though we recently told you how to find it, and you won’t find any sales on Fire TV products.
- There are still some great deals on Amazon devices lurking on the site though, and the best one is a special sale on the Fire TV Stick 4K.
- Certain people can buy Amazon’s 4K streaming dongle for just $24.99 using the coupon code 4KFIRETV – but sadly this crazy deal isn’t available to everyone.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
There have been plenty of great deals on its various Amazon devices over the past few weeks, which might be a bit surprising since the company recently shifted its focus away from “nonessential” products. Amazon’s goal was to free up warehouse space and shipping resources for medical products so that it could ship them to hospitals and government buyers. That said, there are still plenty of nonessentials that are shipping out promptly.
The best-selling products we’ve been covering lately are Jointown 3-ply face masks and Anntuk 4-ply face masks, both of which are in stock right now and ready to ship. We haven’t seen very many shipping delays on Amazon’s various device lines either though. In fact, the company has continued to offer new deals all the time, focusing mainly on a different Amazon device category each week. This week, Echo smart speakers and Echo Show displays are the focus and you’ll find plenty of solid discounts such as an Echo Dot for $29.99 or $30 off the Echo Show 8. But there’s one special deal you won’t find anywhere on that page or anywhere else, and it might just be the hottest deal on Amazon’s entire site right now.
If you’re one of the lucky people eligible to get in on the action based on Amazon’s unknown criteria, you can slash the price of the $50 Fire TV Stick 4K down to just $24.99. That is not a typo. It’s the lowest price ever for a 4K Fire TV Stick, matching Amazon’s deal from Prime Day 2019. As we mentioned, the only problem is that not everyone is eligible for this deal. Go to the Fire TV Stick 4K page on Amazon’s website and if you get lucky, you might see a note under the $49.99 price that looks like this:
Now, it’s important to note that you need to give this deal a shot even if you don’t see that note because the special coupon might still work. Drop a Fire TV Stick 4K into your cart and use the promo code 4KFIRETV at checkout. If you’re eligible for the deal, the price will drop to $24.99. If you’re not eligible for the deal, you’ll see a message that the coupon code is not valid — but don’t get too upset because we’ve got another Fire TV Stick 4K deal for you down below.
Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device with Alexa built in, Dolby Vision, includes Alexa Voice Remot…: $24.99 (use code 4KFIRETV)
First, you can read about the aforementioned offer on Amazon’s terms and conditions page right here:
This is a limited time offer. Qualifying customers only. Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time. Offer good while supplies last. Offer only applies to Fire TV Stick 4K with Alexa Voice Remote, streaming media player sold by Amazon Digital Services LLC. Shipping charges and taxes may apply to discounted items. Offer limited to one per customer and account. Offer is non-transferable, may not be resold, and may not be combined with other offers. To redeem this offer, please enter the promo code during checkout. Promotional code valid until 11:59 p.m. (PT) December 31, 2020. If any of the products related to this offer are returned, your refund will equal the amount you paid for the product, subject to applicable refund policies.
Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device with Alexa built in, Dolby Vision, includes Alexa Voice Remot…: $24.99 (use code 4KFIRETV)
Now, if the coupon mentioned above doesn’t work for you, there’s actually another good deal that anyone can take advantage of. Just buy two Fire TV Stick 4K players and you’ll receive a $20 Amazon credit when you receive and activate them. That essentially cuts the Fire TV Stick 4K to the same price as the entry-level Fire TV Stick, which isn’t too shabby at all. Here are the terms and conditions for this separate Fire TV deal that’s available to anyone.

First look at new Xbox Series X games in action is coming on May 7th
- Microsoft announced a new episode of Inside Xbox coming on May 7th that will feature the first look at next-gen games running on the Xbox Series X.
- The First Look Xbox Series X Gameplay event begins on May 7th at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.
- Microsoft hasn’t revealed any of the games that will be featured in the event.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Microsoft has been sharing information about the Xbox Series X at a pretty steady clip over the past few months, but we still haven’t seen any games built for the next-generation console in action yet. We were able to see what Gears 5, which launched on Xbox One and PC last September, will look like on the upgraded hardware, but next week, we are finally going to get an early look at the first games designed to run on the Xbox Series X.
Following rumors in recent weeks about a May event from Microsoft, and a sly hint from Xbox boss Phil Spencer just days ago, the official Xbox Twitter account confirmed that the next episode of Inside Xbox on Thursday, May 7th at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET will feature next-gen gameplay from the company’s global developer partners. No specifics were revealed, but it sounds like this will serve as the debut of multiple next-gen games.

If you’re like me, you always try to cook as much as possible as opposed to ordering food for takeout or going out and eating in restaurants. That said, plans change pretty often after a long day of work. Under normal circumstances, I would order food for delivery at least a few times each week so that I didn’t have to be bothered to cook. These days, however, it’s a different story.
People across the country are self-quarantining whether or not their local government mandates it because it’s the only way to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. Many restaurants are still open for takeout or even delivery, but every time you go out or bring something into your home, it’s a new exposure risk. For that reason, and because so many of us are trying to save as much money as possible, people are cooking more than ever.
If you’ve been spending tons of time in your kitchen these days, you’re probably looking for some variety to spice things up. Lucky for you, Amazon is running some terrific deals right now on kitchen products that you’re going to love. Check out our five favorite kitchen deals down below.

‘Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’ comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X this fall
- On Thursday, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, coming to Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC & Stadia this holiday season.
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla takes place in England’s Dark Ages, where you will play as a Viking warrior exploring the open world, doing battle with enemies, and building up a settlement.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Following a fascinating live stream in which digital artist Bosslogic gave fans an early look at the setting of the new game, Ubisoft officially announced Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Thursday with a cinematic trailer. Coming two years after Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the latest entry in the long-running franchise follows Eivor, a Viking warrior battling through England, Norway, and beyond while building a settlement and recruiting clan members.
We haven’t gotten to see the game in action yet, but it certainly sounds like it will follow in the footsteps of Odyssey and Origins, with a focus on RPG elements and a massive open world to explore. According to the game’s website, you will be able to sail across the North Sea and conquer the broken kingdoms of England. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a Viking game if you couldn’t get on a boat and attempt to take over the world.
