We’re all feeling a bit more disconnected from one another these days. That’s just a nasty side effect of living in the midst of a viral pandemic, I suppose, but it’s nonetheless depressing. You may have come up with some coping mechanisms of your own to deal with the dramatic shift in daily life, or maybe you’re struggling to make it from one day to the next. Nobody could blame you.
A website that’s been around for over a year is suddenly gaining a new, larger following thanks to the isolated nature of our new daily lives. It’s called Human.Online, and it’s kind of amazing.

The ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic has thrown the entire planet into disarray, and as such, countless product launch dates are now up in the air. Apple was initially expected to unveil its 2nd-gen iPhone SE at an event in March, but the launch was reportedly pushed back several weeks due to the health crisis. But despite potential supply chain issues and lack of demand, phone makers are pushing ahead with plans to launch flagship phones this year, and on Wednesday, Samsung doubled down on its commitment to launch more phones in 2020.

Anyone can now get a coronavirus test at home for $119
- A large network of labs is now selling at-home coronavirus test kits for $119.
- The test will tell you whether you’ve developed COVID-19 antibodies if you suspect you’ve had an asymptomatic version of the disease.
- The test will not confirm an existing COVID-19 infection, and there are plenty of things you should be aware of before going forward with it.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Getting a coronavirus test is a lot easier than it used to be a few weeks ago, although testing availability still isn’t where it should be. Some countries like Germany, Iceland, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan showed what proper testing can do, especially when it’s combined with contact tracing. Germany experienced a significant caseload but a low mortality rate, while the others managed to significantly slow the spread of the virus. That said, not everyone might be able to score a test in some countries, especially if you’re not experiencing any symptoms.
If you think you’ve been infected with the novel coronavirus at some point in the past, most COVID-19 tests performed in a hospital or at a testing site isn’t good either. That one will only detect the viral presence in a nose or tracheal swab. But if you’ve survived the infection, you need an immunity test to confirm it. Those are serological tests that look for antibodies in the bloodstream to prove you’ve beaten COVID-19, and they’re really not widespread yet. But if you want to check for coronavirus antibodies, you can now order an at-home test for $119.

This is how the coronavirus kills
- The National Institutes of Health produced new imagery of the novel coronavirus that causes the deadly COVID-19 disease.
- The image shows SARS-CoV-2 replicas exiting the body of a dying cell that had been infiltrated by the virus.
- The created was obtained with the help of a sophisticated microscope and it shows us how the novel coronavirus kills cells.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Imagine there’s anywhere from a few thousand to a few million thugs waiting on your doorstep to attack you every time you leave the house. That’s how you have to think about the invisible coronavirus threat. COVID-19 is a very serious disease and it’s out there, even if you can’t see the tiny novel coronavirus that causes it. Even people who appear to be healthy could have it and they could pass it on to you with ease. The virus is quite good at spreading in a community, and it’s very devious. Symptoms might not appear up to 14 days after the infection, and that’s if they appear at all. That’s why some sort of social distancing might be required for quite a long time to come, even after authorities relax some of the current rules.
If you still don’t believe the SARS-CoV-2 is a real danger or if you just want to see this horrific microorganism that upended your life, we have just the image for you. The following picture shows exactly how the virus kills the cells it infects.

Scientists say the US will probably need to shelter-in-place until summer
- Social distancing due to coronavirus should continue until summer, researchers now say.
- Rolling back the containment efforts too quickly will result in a huge rebound of new cases, according to predictive models.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Ever since the novel coronavirus outbreak became a pandemic that forced us to live the vast majority of our lives inside our homes and away from just about everyone, there’s been one question at the top of everyone’s mind: When will this all end? Scientists are working on vaccines, researchers are testing a variety of treatment options, but we’re still no closer to a return to normalcy.
Now, a team of scientists from the University of Notre Dame suggests that the current state of lockdown and social distancing in the United States should be maintained if we want to avoid a second huge wave of infections and deaths.

A dog just tested positive for coronavirus for the first time in the US
- In a recent novel coronavirus research study at Duke University, an entire family was tested for the virus, including their two dogs and their cat.
- The family’s pug, Winston, tested positive for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, making him the first confirmed case of coronavirus in a dog in the United States.
- The family says that Winston was only sick for a few days and is feeling much better now.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
In the same week that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expanded its social distancing guidelines to include pets, the first dog has tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the United States. WRAL in North Carolina reports that a Chapel Hill family participated in a study at Duke University in which the father, mother, and son tested positive for the virus. They also had their pets tested, and their pug, Winston, was positive as well.
Dr. Chris Woods, the principal investigator of the study, confirmed that the “virus that causes COVID-19 was detected” in the dog and said he believed this was the first time a dog has tested positive in the country.

How to get faster home internet without paying more to your ISP
- Speeding up your home internet speed and making your connections more reliable is much easier and less expensive than you think.
- Buffering and slow internet speeds are always frustrating, but it’s even worse in the age of coronavirus because everyone is spending so much time online.
- Before you do something drastic like buying a new router or a pricey mesh Wi-Fi system, there are a pair of less expensive options you should explore.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
You’re finally done with a long day of work. Maybe you grab a quick bite to eat, or maybe you skip the food and pour yourself a drink. You plop yourself down on the couch, turn on the TV, and get ready to stream the next episode of your new favorite show that you’ve been waiting all day to see. You settle in as the show begins, and you can’t believe what’s about to happen. Then, all of a sudden, facepalm: The image starts to get all pixelated or even freezes completely as your TV, set-top box, or console struggles to download the video.
It’s so very aggravating and it happens all the time. What you might not realize, however, is that there’s such an easy way for most people to fix this irksome issue.
A lot of the time, your Wi-Fi connection is the main source of the problem. Sometimes there’s interference, or if you live in a big household it could be a congestion problem. A lot of times it’s an issue with range though, and you can get away with a cheap fix by picking up a Wi-Fi range extender. The best-selling TP-Link model on Amazon is on sale right now for just $19.99, or the newer version that’s more than twice as fast can be had for just $29.99.
TP-Link N300 WiFi Extender | Covers Up to 800 Sq.ft | Up to 300Mbps | WiFi Range Extender, Repe…: $19.99
TP-Link AC750 WiFi Extender | Covers Up to 1200 Sq.ft and 20 Devices Up to 750Mbps| Dual Band W…: $29.99
If you want an even better fix to the problem, you need to ditch wireless on your device and switch to a wired internet connection. Of course, no one wants to spend hundreds of dollars installing Ethernet, and we would never suggest that. Why bother when you can instantly transform any regular old power outlet into an Ethernet port in about 2 seconds?
Head over to Amazon and check out the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter. It really couldn’t be any simpler. Just plug one box into a power outlet near your router and the other box into an outlet near your TV or computer. Connect to each box separately using a regular old Ethernet cable, and presto! You’ve got yourself a gigabit Ethernet connection that you just installed yourself in seconds. What’s more, this awesome top-rated powerline kit is on sale right now on Amazon for only $49.99.
TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter – Gigabit Port, Plug&Play, Power Saving, Ethernet Ove…: $49.99
Check out this review from Amazon to get an idea of what you can look forward to when you get one:
Works well. I have a PS4 Pro and the wifi connection is terrible. It’s sad that Sony is actually aware of this & their only advice is to get a hardline into it. My router is in a different room & it can’t be moved. It wasn’t even that far away. My Apple TV and phone had no problem connecting to it in the living room.
Anyways, I got this because I use Playstation Vue for television as well as the usual streaming services like Netflix and games. I would constantly get kicked off the network & it was becoming unbearable, like literally every hour it would go down or start running super slow. I did some searching on the internet and found that unfortunately, I wasn’t the only person with this problem on their PS4. I got this upon the positive reviews from other PS4 owners.
Set up was super simple. Took all of 30 seconds. The connection has been great so far. My internet speed is 60 down and with this when I tested the network on the PS4 it came in at 40, which is way more acceptable than the 15mb/s download I was getting prior with the PS4 wifi. Some of the reviews here on Amazon say after a few months they start to suck, so I guess we’ll see. Thus far though it has been great and I haven’t dropped my network connection nor has it slowed to a crawl either. I would definitely recommend these for people who are having the same issue I am and can’t move their router.
That’s just one example of an endless number of people who have eliminated the annoyances of Wi-Fi without spending a ton of money to have Ethernet installed in their homes. What are you waiting for?!

Next wave of stimulus checks goes out tomorrow – how to see if you’re getting one
- Millions of Americans have been waiting for their coronavirus stimulus checks to arrive, and the next wave of IRS payments is set to go out on Thursday, April 30.
- Here’s how to check if you’re getting a stimulus check, and when it’s estimated to arrive.
- The payments stem from the coronavirus pandemic and the $2.2 trillion emergency stimulus legislation Congress passed in March to deal with the economic fallout from the virus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
To underscore what a historic and unusual moment this is right now for the US, not only are most Americans eligible for direct cash payments from the federal government to help blunt some of the financial pain associated with the coronavirus pandemic — it seems that money is also being accompanied by a one-page letter from President Trump.
Along with the checks, the next big wave of which goes out tomorrow, Americans have started reporting the arrival of a letter on White House stationery from the president, which somberly promises that: “As we wage total war on this invisible enemy, we are also working around the clock to protect hardworking Americans like you from the consequences of the economic shutdown. We are fully committed to ensuring that you and your family have the support you need to get through this time.” At the bottom is Trump’s signature, in his familiar, idiosyncratic scrawl.

Apple releases iOS 13.5 beta with exposure notification API
- Apple rolled out iOS 13.5 developer beta 3 and iPadOS 13.5 developer beta 3 on Wednesday.
- iOS 13.5 beta 3 has the exposure notification API from Apple and Google that health agency developers will use to build apps for contact tracing of people who test positive for the novel coronavirus.
- iOS 13.5 will likely be the final numbered entry before iOS 14 arrives this fall.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple released the third developer betas for iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 on Wednesday. The main feature of this beta release is the addition of the notification exposure API that Apple and Google teamed up to create, giving many public health agency developers a tool that they can use to build contact tracing apps to track people who might be infected with the novel coronavirus. Google released a new beta of Google Play Services as well that also contains the API. On May 1st, Apple and Google will share more details with developers, including sample code.
Although Apple is referring to this release as iOS 13.5 beta 3, it’s worth noting that the previous beta release was iOS 13.4.5 beta 2. As 9to5Mac explains, any iOS release with a new SDK has to have a new version number too, which is why there won’t be a beta 1 or beta 2 of iOS 13.5. In case you were curious.

For the time being, Amazon is moving away from promoting deals on nonessential products and is instead focusing most of its efforts on delivering medical supplies to hospitals. Lucky for you, there is a slew of great unadvertised deals that you probably didn’t even realize were available.
We’ve been covering a wide range of sales, but there are particularly good deals right now on various Amazon devices.
