One country has stopped coronavirus community transmission
- New Zealand announced a considerable milestone in dealing with the novel coronavirus: The country stopped the community transmission of COVID-19.
- New Zealand has eased some social distancing measures, allowing more people to return to work.
- However, people are still advised to stay indoors and life hasn’t returned to normal.

“Community transmission” are two of the worst words you can hear from epidemiologists tracking the progress of infectious diseases. Once a pathogen reaches that level, it means the infection can’t be traced to a source. It means people have started getting the disease without knowing who infected them, and there are likely plenty of undetected cases. For COVID-19, it happened quite quickly in most countries where the novel coronavirus arrived. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the first community transmission of coronavirus on February 26th. It was a person in California who hadn’t traveled to China and wasn’t exposed to any known patients. Months later, we learned that the first person to die of COVID-19 complications actually succumbed to the disease much sooner than believed, in early February. In other words, coronavirus community transmission was happening well before the CDC confirmed it in the US, and it’s still happening right now.
Social distancing measures will help flatten the curve and reduce the number of infections significantly in all countries where they’re in effect. New Zealand is one of the countries with such measures in place, and the local government claims there are now no new cases of community transmission, which is a huge win for the country.

AirPods 2 with wireless charging just got an extra discount at Amazon
- All three versions of Apple’s popular AirPods are discounted right now at Amazon, including the AirPods Pro that are on sale at Amazon’s all-time low price from Black Friday last year.

When the coronavirus outbreak in the United States first got bad, Amazon shifted its focus away from nonessential products. Instead, the company sought to free up as much capacity as possible so it could deliver medical supplies and other essentials to hospitals and government customers. Now that much of the country has been sheltering in place for several weeks, however, Amazon is finally shipping orders out to regular customers more frequently and a few products in particular have been selling far more than everything else we cover here at BGR Deals.
In case you’re wondering, the best-selling product from the past week is the 50-count box of Jointown 3-layer face masks. The second-most popular product is a 50-count box of LeadPro 3-ply face masks, and the third-most popular product is the thicker 4-ply Anntuck face mask. Since the CDC recommends we all wear this type of mask anytime we have to leave the house. This directive will almost definitely be in place for many weeks and perhaps months to come, and that doesn’t even include the inevitable second wave of coronavirus infections that will sweep the country because businesses are reopening far too soon in many states.
Face masks are indeed wildly popular right now, but Apple’s AirPods Pro and AirPods 2 models are close behind. Now, the latter just got an extra discount on Tuesday for anyone who has been considering a pair but has been hesitant to pull the trigger.
Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Case: $164.99
Like the other two AirPods models that are currently available, Apple’s AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case have been on sale at a discount on Amazon for several weeks now. They’ll cost you $199 if you order them from Apple, but Amazon is offering the exact same true wireless earbuds for just $169. That’s already a solid discount, of course, but on Tuesday the discount got even deeper. Order a pair right now and you’ll only pay $164.99.
That’s a terrific deal, but we’ll note that the other two versions are also available with solid discounts. The $159 AirPods 2 with a regular Lightning case are down to $139, and Apple’s best-selling AirPods Pro with active noise cancellation are available at Black Friday’s all-time low price on Amazon.
