  • Coronavirus patients who lost their sense of smell are waiting weeks for it to return.
  • Loss of smell from respiratory infections is not uncommon, but how and why some patients lose the ability to smell, and for how long, puzzles doctors.
  • Some patients reported a loss of smell and taste as the only symptoms of the viral infection.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Ever since the first weeks of the novel coronavirus outbreak, doctors and health experts have been searching for ways to differentiate the COVID-19 illness from similar seasonal sicknesses. Some patients who were confirmed to have a coronavirus infection had lost their sense of smell, which is a symptom that is rarely associated with the common cold but is sometimes present with the flu.

It’s one of several factors doctors are taking into account when diagnosing new patients and determining who should get tested. As CNN reports, some coronavirus victims have been waiting for their sense of smell to return for weeks, and fears of permanent loss of smell are spreading.

‘Resident Evil 4’ remake: Here’s everything we know so far

%name ‘Resident Evil 4’ remake: Here’s everything we know so far by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Following the success of the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes, Capcom is said to be working on a remake of the highest-rated entry in the series: Resident Evil 4.
  • Resident Evil 4 remake reportedly began production in 2018 and release is planned for 2022.
  • Resident Evil 8 will launch before the Resident Evil 4 remake comes out.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Remasters of old video games can sometimes feel like cheap cash grabs, but over the last two years, we have seen developers take classic titles and completely rebuild them from the ground up, to the point where they’re hardly even recognizable as remakes. Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII remake is being lauded as one of the best games of 2020, and it launched just seven days after Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 remake, which has also been well received.

But few game studios, if any, have made remakes as much of a priority as Capcom. Resident Evil 2 was the top-rated game of 2019, Resident Evil 3 somehow launched just 15 months later, and now Video Games Chronicle reports that the studio is working on a Resident Evil 4 remake that has an estimated release window of 2022.

Apple’s god-tier Pro Display XDR is back on Amazon – here’s what to buy if you can’t afford one

%name Apple’s god tier Pro Display XDR is back on Amazon – here’s what to buy if you can’t afford one by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s new Pro Display XDR is finally back in stock at Amazon, but it’s well outside most people’s budgets thanks to a starting price of $5,000… which doesn’t even include the $1,000 stand.
  • Thankfully, Amazon has plenty of great alternatives that are available at much more reasonable prices, and we’ve rounded up our five favorite options that are in stock now or set to be back in stock this week.
  • Prices start at just $89.99 and several options, including our favorite PC monitor of the bunch, are available to ship immediately despite Amazon’s shift away from nonessential products.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

There is quite literally nothing on the planet like Apple’s new Pro Display XDR. Nothing. It’s a 6K Retina display with image quality you truly have to see to believe, and just about every spec you can imagine is completely maxed out. Here are some of the key points from Apple’s Pro Display XDR page:

  • The first 32-inch Retina 6K display ever. Up to 1600 nits of brightness. An astonishing 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and superwide viewing angle. Over a billion colors presented with exceptional accuracy. And dynamic range that transforms the professional workflow. Introducing Apple Pro Display XDR, the world’s best pro display.
  • XDR. Dynamic range to the extreme. The contrast your eyes see between brightness and darkness is very challenging to reproduce in a display, leading to the development of High Dynamic Range (HDR). With breakthrough backlighting technology, Pro Display XDR takes brightness, contrast, and color to a new level. Far beyond HDR, it’s Extreme Dynamic Range (XDR).
  • Typical desktop displays have sustained brightness of around 350 nits. Some pro displays exceed this, but most can only sustain it for short periods of time. Pro Display XDR produces an industry-leading 1000 nits of full-screen sustained brightness and 1600 nits at its peak.1 It gives you the power to maintain extreme brightness without ever dimming. Along with efficient backlight control, this delivers outstanding contrast between the brightest brights and the blackest blacks. The result is an incredible 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and stunningly real XDR imagery.
  • Pro Display XDR always gives you the truest representation of your work. A P3 wide color gamut provides a color palette capable of creating the most vibrant imagery. With true 10-bit color, Pro Display XDR can produce more than a billion colors with extreme accuracy. State-of-the-art calibration and a sophisticated algorithm ensure that you get the highest-quality color possible.
  • LED in a whole new light. True-to-life imagery requires having extremely bright areas of the screen right next to extremely dark areas. Without precise backlight control, this can cause an unintended glow called blooming. Pro Display XDR is able to dramatically reduce blooming using advanced LED technology, light shaping, and intelligent image processing.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! If you work in an industry and you have a real need for this kind of professional-grade sorcery, you’ll be happy to know that the Pro Display XDR is finally available for purchase on Amazon. How much will this insanity set you back? The Pro Display XDR with standard glass is an even $4,999, while the upgraded model with special Nano-texture glass is $5,999. Oh, and neither of those prices include the Pro Stand, so that’ll cost you an extra $999.

Apple 32-inch Pro Display XDR with Retina 6K Display – Standard Glass: $4,999.00

Apple 32-inch Pro Display XDR with Retina 6K Display – Nano-Texture Glass: $5,949.96

Apple Pro Stand: $994.00

If you’ve got enough money to be able to warrant that type of purchase, congratulations on living the dream. If, like the rest of us mere mortals, you’d rather not spend as much on a PC monitor as some people might spend on a car, Amazon has a bunch of other deals on awesome displays that you should definitely check out. They might not be quite as impressive as the Pro Display XDR, but they also don’t cost a bazillion dollars. Our favorite is probably The Space by Samsung — check out how cool the design is!

Coronavirus symptoms may ‘reactivate’ in some recovered patients

  • Coronavirus symptoms may return in patients who successfully recovered from the initial infection.
  • The World Health Organization is looking into the matter following reports of coronavirus re-activation in South Korean patients.
  • The United States now has more coronavirus deaths than any other country in the world.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We’re well into April and the coronavirus is still raging across America. Just this weekend, the number of coronavirus cases in the United States surpassed 550,000. Meanwhile, the cumulative number of coronavirus-related deaths in the U.S. now exceeds 22,000. To put that figure into context, the U.S. now has more coronavirus deaths than any other country in the world.

The good news is that the coronavirus may be peaking in a number of U.S. cities, including New York City which has long been the epicenter of the coronavirus in the country.

%name Amazon deal: Your smartphone can see anywhere with this crazy $29 wireless camera by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Let me tell you a little story about the time many, many years ago that I was running late for a big family dinner in downtown Manhattan. There was so much traffic that it took me almost 2 hours to get there from my home in New Jersey, but thankfully I anticipated the delays and left with plenty of time to spare. When I finally arrived, I somehow managed to find a parking spot right around the corner from the restaurant. Anyone who lives in New York City or goes there often knows that almost never happens, so I was ecstatic. I even parallel parked perfectly on the first try, which also almost never happens.

I was actually going to make it to dinner on time! I got out of the car, closed the door, and made my way to the sidewalk as I headed to the restaurant. Then, it happened: I dropped my car keys and they fell through a sewer grate.

The feeling when your stomach drops is something familiar to anyone who has had an experience that’s anything like this. They landed about 6 feet down which isn’t too bad, but that’s obviously much farther than I or anyone else can reach. It took a very long time but we finally managed to build a hook contraption out of parts we bought at a hardware store we found about 20 blocks away, and I ended up retrieving my keys several hours after having lost them.

Now I always leave my Depstech WF010 Wireless Borescope Inspection Camera in my car so I never have to worry about anything like that again.

The Depstech WF010 is one of the most popular smartphone accessories we cover here at BGR Deals, and most people know it as the crazy wireless camera that lets your smartphone see anywhere. Its main function is definitely being snaked inside just about anything and beaming a clear picture back to your smartphone, but there are also some attachments you need to know about. In addition to a mirror that lets you see around corners, there’s also a hook and a magnet that let you retrieve lost items like jewelry out of sink pipes or… you guessed it… keys out of beneath a sewer grate.

Use the coupon code BHKM8QYM and you can get one right now for $28.79, which matches the all-time low price. Or, if you want an even better model there’s another deal on the Depstech WF060 Wireless Borescope, which is a big upgrade. It has a 5-megapixel camera instead of 2 megapixels and you can actually zoom in, which is so cool. Also, it’s 16.5 feet long as opposed to 11.5 feet, and it’s down to $49.49 if you use the coupon code KCI83EGY on Amazon.

Get these 5 things to avoid going crazy in coronavirus quarantine

%name Get these 5 things to avoid going crazy in coronavirus quarantine by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • According to several top health experts, there are actually some early indications that the worst of the novel coronavirus pandemic might be behind us here in the United States.
  • Now, a new challenge presents itself: can we continue to be responsible and stay in quarantine for at least another month or so in order to ensure the inevitable second wave of COVID-19 infections isn’t too bad?
  • The answer to that question will determine whether things will finally start to go back to normal toward the end of the summer, or if we’re in store for even more trying times ahead.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We have some good news: some experts believe that the novel coronavirus outbreak in the United States will finally start getting better in the weeks to come. That’s the first ray of sunshine we’ve seen in a very long time, but it’s important that we don’t get ahead of ourselves. Before you get too excited about the possibility that things are starting to improve, it’s important to keep reminding yourself that it doesn’t mean things will soon go back to normal. They won’t. Unless we all continue to quarantine ourselves and only go out when we absolutely need to, there will be a horrific second wave of infections that will be devastating to our healthcare system and to our morale.

With all that in mind, there’s one thing you need to keep reminding yourself… this won’t last forever. It’s difficult since staying in isolation is in such stark contrast with the way we normally live our lives, but you have to focus on the big picture. Staying in quarantine will save lives. It will also help slow and ultimately stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, which is crucial since we all know that there’s no vaccine coming for at least 12 to 18 months. Even then, there’s no telling how much the virus will have mutated by that time, so we don’t know how effective a vaccine will be.

Now that you know you need to continue to stay home as much as possible for at least the next month or two, here are some key items that will help pass the time in self-quarantine.

A tablet

After weeks of spending tons of time together, you’re not always going to want to watch TV with the rest of your family. Also, you’re going to get tired of gaming and trying to read the news on your tiny smartphone screen. You’ll definitely want a great tablet, and the best option out there right now is Apple’s newest 10.2-inch iPad, which starts at just $299 instead of $329 right now at Amazon. If you’re looking to save some money, Amazon’s Fire 7 Tablet, Fire HD 8 Tablet, and high-end Fire HD 10 are all fantastic choices.

New Apple iPad (10.2-Inch, Wi-Fi, 32GB) – Silver (Latest Model): $299.99

All-New Fire HD 10 Tablet (10.1″ 1080p full HD display, 32 GB) – Black: $149.99

Headphones

Spending quality time with your family is obviously important, but so is spending some time alone. A good pair of headphones is a must-have to help drown out the world around you, and Amazon has some great options that are still shipping despite the company’s new policy on delaying deliveries of nonessential items. AirPods Pro are in stock and shipping immediately, and they also happen to be on sale at the lowest price ever. You can also save a bunch of money on Apple’s AirPods 2 both with and without the wireless charging case.

Apple AirPods with Charging Case: $139.00

Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Case: $169.00

The class-leading Sony WH1000XM3 noise cancelling headphones that blow everyone’s minds are discounted right now, and that’s for a special bundle that includes a free 20,000 mAh portable charger. If you want more affordable cans that still sound great, the TaoTronics SoundSurge 60 ANC headphones have fantastic reviews and they’re on sale for $49.99.

An eBook reader

Tablets are great for reading the news and for reading books, but if you’re a big-time reader you’re definitely going to want a dedicated device that’s easier on the eyes. Needless to say, it doesn’t get any better than Amazon’s all-new Kindle and waterproof Kindle Paperwhite.

  • Apple Maps will soon start showing testing locations for the novel coronavirus.
  • Apple has an online portal where healthcare providers and other businesses can register their COVID-19 testing locations.
  • Google Maps has plenty of coronavirus-related features but doesn’t list COVID-19 testing sites in the app.

Apple has been upgrading its Apple Maps navigation apps in the past few years to try to catch up with Google’s Maps product. The latter isn’t the default mapping and navigation app on iOS, but plenty of iPhone users still use it. Google Maps offers a more feature-rich experience than Apple Maps, and that’s understandable given Google’s development lead on Apple. But Apple Maps is about to get a feature that Google Maps should copy as soon as possible as it’s related to the novel coronavirus health crisis. Apple Maps will soon direct you to the closes COVID-19 testing center near you, which is the kind of information you should find in a navigation app during a pandemic.
