Raise your hand if you hate dealing with airports. As soon as you’re done waiting in line to drop off your luggage, you’re off to a second line to go through the security check and then a third line to wait to board the plane. Add to that restaurant lines and even bathroom lines, and you’re in for an awful experience. Leo the robot might not fix all our problems at the airport, but it might help us avoid at least one of the lines we’ve all grown to hate.

Brilliantly simple dinner plate cuts 30 calories from your meal

%name Brilliantly simple dinner plate cuts 30 calories from your meal by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Last year I wrote about how I lost 50 lbs in just three months. It certainly wasn’t easy, but I discussed the tools and methods I used to make it happen. Beyond everything else though, the most important realization for me personally was this: weight loss is a game of numbers. Barring certain physical conditions, you will lose weight if you consistently burn more calories than you consume. It’s a wonderfully simple concept but it can be incredibly difficult to maintain, and I discussed several ways I managed to do it.

As the saying goes, “every little bit helps,” and a reader just emailed me a note about a nifty calorie-cutting invention that couldn’t be simpler.

This crazy photo from the Space Station helps put Canada’s wildfire in perspective

The Fort McMurray wildfire has captured devastation on a scale most of us can’t comprehend. Images from the ground and satellites have helped quantify the destruction, but this shot from the International Space Station somehow ties the scale of the destruction together much more clearly.

The photo was taken by an Expedition 67 crew member on May 14th, from 240 miles away. (Yes, the astronauts have some pretty sweet cameras.) The lower-angle shot shows a huge plume of smoke engulfing Fort McMurray — the town isn’t really visible, the smoke is so dense.

In a world of Bluetooth-connected fart trackers and hipster-friendly tinfoil hats, I am aware that describing a Kickstarter as “the worst” is a bold claim. But hear me out: from idea to execution to the innumerable GIFs littering the crowdfunding campaign, this particular wearable smartphone accessory ticks all of the boxes.

At heart, the SOSPENDO combines two of the very worst things: selfie sticks and wearable smartphone holders. The SOSPENDO is, according to the press release, an “innovative, ergonomic hands-free device that will hold smartphones, tablets and GoPro cameras.”

We’ve known for a while now that Apple might bring Siri to the Mac. It certainly feels like the next logical step, considering that Siri is already available on iPhone, Apple Watch, and Apple TV. The update is rumored to arrive later this year, and will be one of the main features of the upcoming OS X 10.12 update.

Even though we’ll have to wait for WWDC to see the full details, the first user interface elements for Siri for Mac have leaked, including the dock and menu bar icons.

It’s hard not to like Louis C.K. In fact, while most comedians tend to be polarizing, it’s not a stretch to say that Louis C.K. is as universally loved of a comedian as there is today. Even for folks who don’t gravitate towards his brand of comedy, Louis C.K.’s willingness to push the status quo while refraining from selling out has earned him an arguably unparalleled level of respect from the general public.

That said, you might want to set your DVR tonight because Louis C.K. is slated to appear as a contestant on Jeopardy! later today. The show is set to air at 7:30PM ET tonight but in some locations it will air a bit earlier. Make sure to check your local listings just to make sure you don’t miss it.

Google’s VR play is all about content, not hardware

%name Google’s VR play is all about content, not hardware by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The big arguments in VR right now are all about hardware: Oculus Rift vs HTC Vive, Gear VR against a phantom Apple VR, Playstation VR against… something. Google was widely expected to wade into the fray this afternoon with some kind of standalone VR headset, or at least a direct Gear VR competitor.

Instead, the company glossed over “reference hardware” specs it’s providing to other manufacturers. But that’s because Google’s trying to position itself somewhere quite different in the developing VR market: As the go-to place for content.
