The novel coronavirus infection is largely stable, according to several researchers who are tracking mutations to assess the viability of vaccines. The more often a virus mutates, the harder it is to eradicate. The flu is the best example of that, as the virus mutates rapidly, which is why you need a different shot every year. The COVID-19 virus mutates too, and scientists have been able to observe a strain that might be more difficult to cure. According to the new discovery, a patient in China was highly infectious for no less than 49 straight days, which is a record for the disease. He recovered only after being treated with antibodies taken from a different survivor.

• The Environmental Protection Agency is begging Americans to avoid flushing disinfectant wipes and other types of cleaning materials with pre-applied chemicals and cleaners.

As the threat of the novel coronavirus spread across the globe, lots and lots of shoppers in the United States began to stockpile cleaning supplies. Sanitizing and disinfecting wipes were high on the shopping lists of many Americans, and now the Environmental Protection Agency is dealing with those products in the most unfortunate way. Apparently, people have been dumping them in the toilet.

The EPA recently issued a bulletin begging Americans to only flush toilet paper, along with whatever else your body might need to deposit into the toilet bowl and avoid flushing things like disinfecting wipes. These wipes, the EPA emphasizes, are not made to be flushed and should instead be discarded in the trash after being used.

COVID-19 is the kind of medical condition that requires a test to confirm the diagnoses, and that’s because the most common symptoms also appear with other viral infections like the flu or cold. Two types of tests can confirm the infection: one detects the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is replicating in the body, and the other finds the antibodies that fight off the disease.

Being able to quickly diagnose COVID-19 clinically could be of massive help to physicians and patients since tests are still in such short supply. Doctors have started observing some early COVID-19 signs caused by the novel coronavirus. Some patients experience the sudden loss of smell and taste, and researchers already proved that the virus can interact with some of the cells in the olfactory tissue. Now, new reports from various countries indicate that some patients may be prone to multiple neurological signs upon being infected, although these symptoms can occur with other neurological diseases.
