Remember how Apple got a little crafty and bulked up its holiday quarter by playing around with the iPhone 6s launch? Well guess what happened when Samsung shifted its Galaxy S7 launch earlier in the year — you got it, a big performance boost in the first quarter. Hot off of Apple’s first ever quarterly decline in iPhone sales, Samsung reported first-quarter earnings on Thursday morning that showed a healthy 14% rise in profit. The company had strong Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge shipments to thank for the performance boost, which marked Samsung’s strongest profit growth in three years.

Tesla is the talk of the town when it comes to car innovation. Like it or not, Elon Musk’s company made a splash in the business by coming out not only with fully electric vehicles but also with several smart features for them. The list includes a handy autopilot mode that’s able to take control of the car in various instances – as long as the driver is also paying attention to the road. The car isn’t autonomous yet, as laws aren’t deployed to regulate this new type of machine.

Tesla competitor Volvo is also working on autopilot features of its own for future generations, but the company isn’t happy with all the unwarranted – read, potentially dangerous – attention that Tesla’s robot is receiving from customers.

DARPA announced on Tuesday that it has awarded contracts to eight organizations to develop more intelligent, more agile ground vehicles that aren’t burdened by extra armor.

The problem that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency said that it wants to address is that as weapons get better at piercing armor, adding armor to ground vehicles just makes them slower and more expensive to develop and deploy.

The initiative comes as part of the agency’s Ground X-Vehicle Technology program, which has awarded contracts to Carnegie Mellon University as well as to companies like Honeywell, Pratt & Miller, and Raytheon.

Not too long ago, someone claimed to have discovered a UFO near Area 51 using nothing other than Google Earth, and various sets of historical images of that location. There’s no way to confirm that sighting, but alien fans will surely want to hear about an equally fascinating find. Using the same Google Earth tool, someone discovered what looks like a crash-landed UFO similar to Star Wars’ Millennium Falcon.

There’s a new drone that’s actually a drone and we’re pretty sure you’ll want one

It really shouldn’t be this refreshing to see a company unveil a drone that’s actually a drone, but alas. The term “drone” has been broadened to include a wide range of popular quadcopters that don’t have any autonomous capabilities at all, but there are still some companies building real drones for consumer use. Back in February we told you about an awesome drone that can follow you and record your every move with its built-in camera, though it’s a bit pricey for some. If you don’t want to part with that kind of cash you’ll be happy to learn that a new drone called the Hover Camera will soon be released, and it offers similar functionality in a much more compact design at a fraction of the price.

Is Cord Cutting a problem? Apparently not for Comcast

%name Is Cord Cutting a problem? Apparently not for Comcast by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For years, it was widely assumed that the cable industry was in the midst of a transition. Blindsided by streaming services from the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, it was effectively taken as fact that cable companies were withering as more and more subscribers were opting to cut the cord.

Bolstering this narrative was ostensibly cold hard data. For instance, The Wall Street Journal last year relayed a study which claimed that the number of households with cable “will fall at an accelerating rate for at least the next four years…”
