Coronavirus-killing UV phone sanitizers are somehow back at Amazon

  • The novel coronavirus outbreak is intensifying in the United States, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
  • Smartphones are breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses including coronaviruses, and it is more important now than ever to ensure that you not only wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, but also disinfect your smartphone as often as possible.
  • Products like Clorox wipes and Purell are good ways to disinfect your phone, but they’re still in short supply. Luckily UV-C sanitizers work just as well, and two different popular models just appeared back in stock on Amazon despite how quickly they sold out a few weeks ago.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

As the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the United States, there are several parts of our lives that won’t go back to normal for quite some time. People in most regions should be practicing strict social distancing, for example, and self-quarantining should be employed in any areas that are within striking distance of a hot zone. Everyone everywhere should be more focused than ever before on hygiene as well. Washing your hands anytime you touch a surface that others might have touched is of the utmost importance since most of us have no choice but to go out in public from time to time. Grocery shopping is a perfect example — do you know how many people touched that box of cookies before you? A lot.

Since hand sanitizers are almost impossible to come by right now, many people can’t wash their hands until they get home. That means anything you touched while out at the grocery store or anywhere else will need to be sanitized, including the door handles on your car, your steering wheel, your wallet, your clothes, and of course your smartphone. You can’t use bleach cleaner on your phone though, and most people don’t have Clorox wipes or Lysol wipes anymore. What are you supposed to do?

A few weeks ago, we told you about two smartphone sanitizers that use UV-C light to kill germs and viruses — including coronaviruses — on your smartphone. They sold out almost immediately after we covered them, but now they’re both somehow back in stock.

HoMedics UV-Clean Phone Sanitizer | Faster Than Any UV Sanitizer On The Market | Kills Up to 99…: $79.99

The HoMedics UV-Clean Phone Sanitizer is a best-selling UV-C smartphone sanitizer that kills germs and viruses in just a few minutes. And just in case you’re wondering, UV-C is indeed confirmed to kill COVID-19. The HoMedics model is in stock right now on Amazon in three different colors, and they’re all shipping out this week. Similar products from most other companies are shipping from China and delivering sometime in May… a lot of good that’ll do.

There’s also another device in stock right now — the Eshake UV Cell Phone Cleaner — that isn’t quite as popular. It has good reviews though, and it’s also less expensive than the HoMedics model. Definitely pick up one of these two UV-C sanitizers while they’re in stock. Then keep washing your hands constantly, and pick up a box of alcohol wipes to use on your smartphone if you want to be extra safe.

This stunning iPhone 12 Pro design might blow your mind

%name This stunning iPhone 12 Pro design might blow your mind by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s iPhone 12 release date is still more than 5 months away, and that’s if things go according to plan and the novel coronavirus pandemic doesn’t ultimately lead to any delays.
  • Though the next-generation iPhone models aren’t yet official, many details about the new phones have already leaked from reliable sources.
  • A new visualization of the iPhone 12 Pro takes things even further than Apple is expected to this year, and we can’t stop staring at it.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The release of Apple’s next-generation iPhone 12 series appears to be at risk due to the worldwide novel coronavirus outbreak. Things appear to finally be under control for the most part in China, where the bulk of Apple’s iPhone manufacturing takes place. Strict quarantines and extensive testing measures in China eventually slowed the spread of the potentially deadly disease. Here in the United States, however, we’re not even close to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Some experts believe we’re still between 3 and 5 weeks away from seeing the coronavirus outbreak peak here in the US, which would be devastating considering how bad things already are in many regions. As of the time of this writing, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the US was nearly double the number of reported cases in China, and we’re still only testing a fraction of people each day who try to get tested after showing symptoms.

In a nutshell, there’s no telling what might happen 5 days from now, let alone 5 months from now. New reports seem to pop up each day right now that make claims one way or the other regarding potential iPhone 12 delays, and we’ll never know which claims are correct because it’s a fluid situation and things could change a dozen times between now and September. One thing we likely do know, however, is what Apple’s upcoming new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices will look like.

%name Prime members only: Exclusive deal cuts Fire TV Stick 4K to all time low $25 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon’s popular Fire TV Stick 4K is one of the only streaming media players available right now on Amazon that is still shipping out this week despite the retailer’s temporary shift away from nonessential products.
  • There’s a great deal available right now on Amazon that anyone can take advantage of: Buy and activate two Fire TV Stick 4K players and you’ll get a $20 Amazon credit.
  • On top of that, there’s a special deal that is exclusively available to a select few Amazon Prime members, and it slashes the price of the Fire TV Stick 4K all the way down to an all-time low of $24.99 when you use the coupon code 4KFIRETV at checkout.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

In light of the novel coronavirus outbreak in the United States, Amazon has temporarily shifted its focus away from nonessential products. This way, it can free up warehouse and delivery resources for essential goods like cleaners and medical supplies. That said, there are still some products that might be considered nonessential that are shipping out right away, and the Fire TV Stick 4K is among them. On top of that, there’s a somewhat hidden deal that most people don’t know about on the popular streaming media player: buy two and you’ll get a $20 Amazon credit when you receive and activate them. Check this page for all the info on this great promotion, which anyone can take advantage of.

Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device with Alexa built in, Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, includes the Ale…: Buy two, get a $20 Amazon credit

Before you jump on that deal though, there’s another secret sale happening right now that only a select few Amazon Prime members can take advantage of. In a nutshell, it slashes the price of the $50 Fire TV Stick down to just $24.99, which happens to be the lowest price Amazon has ever charged for this wildly popular streamer with 4K resolution and HDR support. The only problem is, there’s a pretty big catch — the deal is only available to some Prime subscribers, and the only way to find out if you’re eligible is to try.

Visit the Fire TV Stick 4K page on Amazon’s site on your computer or smartphone, and you might see a note under the $49.99 price that looks like this one:

Whether or not you see the note though, you should still try it because last time this deal popped up, many of our readers said that it worked for them even though they didn’t see that note. Just add a Fire TV Stick 4K to your cart and use the promo code 4KFIRETV at checkout. If you see the price drop to $24.99 after entering that coupon code, you’re good to go. If not, you can still add two Fire TV Stick 4K players to your cart and get the $20 credit we mentioned earlier once you activate them. Amazon does have a terms and conditions page for the 4KFIRE TV coupon deal but as you’ll see, there’s no explanation at all as far as who is eligible for the promo and who isn’t. As a matter of fact, we have even heard from a few readers who got the discount without even subscribing to Amazon Prime.

It looks like Apple is about to launch the iPhone 9

%name It looks like Apple is about to launch the iPhone 9 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s iPhone 9 might launch as soon as this week, according to an accessory leak from Best Buy.
  • Retailers that received purported iPhone 9 protective gear were instructed not to inventory them until April 5th.
  • The iPhone 9 is supposed to be an affordable iPhone, featuring the iPhone 11’s fast processor and the iPhone 8’s design.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Apple just unveiled a few new products, including the iPad Pro and new MacBook Air, but the first quarter of 2020 should also have brought us an exciting new iPhone. That was before the novel coronavirus ended normal life in the US and almost everywhere else in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic forced Apple to cancel a late-March press event, according to some reports. Apple never announced the press conference in the first place, so it never had to publicly acknowledge the cancelation. The same reports also said that the iPhone 9 (iPhone SE 2) would be postponed to summer or later, as Apple was evaluating the situation. That wasn’t because of a lack of iPhone 9 stock, but because of the state of the world. The smartphone business also took a serious hit in the first quarter, just like many other businesses that were affected by the coronavirus. But Apple might be getting ready to launch the new iPhone nonetheless.

Microsoft Family Safety app will be included in the rebranded Office 365 subscription

%name Microsoft Family Safety app will be included in the rebranded Office 365 subscription by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Microsoft rebranded the popular Office 365 productivity subscription to Microsoft 365 while keeping the same pricing structure in place.
  • Microsoft 365 accounts will get additional features, including a Microsoft Teams app for consumers and a Microsoft Family Safety app.
  • Family Safety will work on Android and iPhone, allowing parents to track the location of their children, and get detailed driving reports.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Office 365 might be your favorite suite of productivity apps, but you should prepare yourself to part ways with the brand. The products you’ve been using for years aren’t going anywhere, it’s just the bundle’s name that gets a new name. Starting April 21st, Office 365 will be known as Microsoft 365. Many of the goods things about Office 365 stay the same. You still get to choose between a Personal or Home subscription, and the prices remain the same at $6.99 or $9.99, respectively. But you’re going to get even more value out of Microsoft 365 subscriptions, as Microsoft will bundle additional apps with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and Skype. We’re looking at a new Microsoft Teams for consumers that will be available inside every 365 account, as well as the new Microsoft Family Safety. And it’s Family Safety that’s easily going to be the highlight of Microsoft 365, especially if you’re managing the safety of a big family.

Coronavirus update: Here’s an estimate of when the worst will hit your state

%name Coronavirus update: Here’s an estimate of when the worst will hit your state by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The COVID-19 coronavirus is continuing to infect a growing number of Americans, with the total number of infections as of Monday night standing at more than 164,000, according to the latest numbers from Johns Hopkins University.
  • Also, more than 3,000 Americans have died so far from the virus — more than the number of Americans who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
  • This website tool has built projections for all 50 states, as well as the country as a whole, showing when each state will hit its peak number of estimated deaths from the virus, as well as when its hospital capacity is expected to hit its peak.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

As deaths continue to mount and infections continue to rise from the novel coronavirus pandemic, not to mention the catastrophic economic impact that’s being felt at the local, state, and federal level here in the US, one question continues to be asked by people desperate for the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel:

How much longer will this go on?

There’s so much we don’t know about this virus, from why it hits some people hard while completely sparing other people to when the spread will finally taper off. New York City, in particular, has been hit hard and is struggling to keep its health care infrastructure from collapsing under the weight of the virus. Meanwhile, researchers from the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics have come up with a model estimating when every state will hit its peak in terms of hospital use and resources hitting its max, as well as deaths from the virus peaking in the state.

Astronomers have finally found the edge of the Milky Way galaxy

%name Astronomers have finally found the edge of the Milky Way galaxy by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Astronomers have at last identified what’s believed to be the edge of the Milky Way galaxy.
  • A team of astronomers from England used that farthest point to determine that the diameter of the Milky Way is 1.9 million light-years, plus or minus 0.4 million light-years.
  • It’s a scientific breakthrough that holds the potential to unlock more discoveries and insights about the galaxy that encompasses Earth, such as where and how many galaxies there are that surround the Milky Way.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Astronomers from Durham University in England have made an exciting discovery about the galaxy that includes Earth — specifically, they’ve finally found its far edge.

Using nearby galaxies as a guide, astrophysicist Alis Deason and her colleagues have determined the exact diameter of the Milky Way to be 1.9 million light-years (with a margin of error of 0.4 million light-years). That’s according to a paper from the team, posted at arXiv.org, which is an open-access archive of tens of thousands of articles from academics and scientists. And this work is important, for reasons that include the future additional discoveries it will help astronomers make.

  • The YouTube channel Virtual Disney World has been posting 360-degree videos of theme park rides at Universal Studios, Disney World, and Disney Land, which can be a creative way to explore more of the world outside right from your couch until health officials get the coronavirus under control and we can start going outside again.

These are so many creative ways you can entertain yourself while you’re stuck at home during the social distancing era of the moment as the US struggles to keep the coronavirus at bay. Many of you, in fact, are probably stuck at home right now thanks to either a quarantine order that’s also temporarily closed up businesses and other gathering places around your city. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t still ways you can “virtually” get out of the house and explore a bit of the world around you, right from your couch.

The web makes it possible to remotely visit everything from museums and art galleries to iconic city streets around the world. Another coronavirus quarantine entertainment option that families with children might especially want to be aware of is the YouTube channel Virtual Disney World, which posts videos of 360-degree, interactive rides at Disney Land, Disney World, and Universal Studios.
