FEATURED — I finally found an iPhone I hate

Something occurred to me this morning: I’ve had an iPhone in my pocket every day of my life for more than eight years, since mid-summer in 2007. Aside from my wife, who wasn’t even my wife back in 2007, I can’t think of anything that has been by my side for as long as the iPhone. Each year brought a new model and I’ve been through them all — iPhones, not wives — but no other smartphone has been able to supplant the iPhone as my main handset.

There is one model that I decided to skip, though. When the iPhone 6 Plus launched alongside the iPhone 6 last year, I passed on it. I did spend some time with the phone, but I never really gave it a shot. So in 2015, I decided to give its successor a try. In the end, I couldn’t even spend a week with the iPhone 6s Plus.

Windows 10 has not been the boost PC vendors were hoping for. Reports from both Gartner and IDC earlier this week suggested that PC sales fell between 7% and 11% year over year in the third quarter, which is a huge hit considering the wave of new hardware that has been released over the past few months. With vendors seemingly running out of options in their attempts to stir up interest in their wares, Microsoft has stepped in with a new offer aimed at incentivizing users to upgrade to a new Windows 10 desktop or laptop.

The deal offers customers $200 to trade in an old Windows laptop when upgrading, but the company will pay you even more if you jump ship from Apple’s camp and switch from a Mac to a Windows 10 PC.

One would need to be quite the marksman to shoot a drone out of the sky with a conventional rifle. Firing a bullet with a diameter of only about 7mm and hitting an airborne drone from several hundred feet away is obviously no easy task. But a new rifle unveiled earlier this week is a game changer for individuals and organizations looking to protect their privacy and safety by warding off snooping drones, and it doesn’t even fire a single bullet.

A distant star is getting a lot of attention from astronomers – possibly as a sign that alien life is out there.

The star KIC 8462852 was discovered through Planet Hunters, a citizen science program at Yale University. Taking data from the Kepler Space Telescope, volunteers go searching for signs of a drop in light due to orbiting exoplanets crossing in front of their parent stars.

Several reports over the last few days that were echoed by many tech sites and on social channels revealed that Facebook might employ some shady tactics to perform background activities on iPhone even if a user decides to turn off Background App Refresh. Various theories tried to explain how Facebook is forcing background activity on iPhones, and it looks like Facebook is paying attention to these complaints. The company hasn’t explained what’s causing the issue, but it “hopes” to fix the problem shortly.
