Don’t buy a $500 Dyson when Bissell’s ICONpet is even better for $199

  • Dyson was a game-changer in the cordless vacuum space and it continues to innovate in new and exciting ways, but the company has far more competition these days than it did even a few short years ago.
  • There are several different Dyson rivals that we now recommend before a Dyson because they offer the same features and performance that’s almost as good for a small fraction of the price.
  • One of our favorite models right now is the Bissell ICONpet cordless vacuum, and it’s on sale right now at Amazon with a massive discount.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Have you seen Dyson’s latest and greatest cordless stick vacuum? It’s called the Dyson V11 Torque Drive Cordless Vacuum Cleaner and it’s an absolute beast. This fantastic stick vacuum is so powerful that it might just suck the socks right off your feet if you’re not careful, and it has a battery that can last up to 60 minutes on a single charge.

Dyson cordless vacuums have definitely come a long way over the years, but there’s one thing that hasn’t changed at all: they’re still insanely expensive. That V11 Torque Drive we mentioned above costs a whopping $700, and that’s just insane. Even with a discount right now on Amazon, you’ll still have to cough up $610. Maybe if you have a mountain of cash you can rationalize that purchase, but most of us are tightening our purse strings these days. If you want something that’s almost as good as the V11 in a lot of ways — and even better in one or two key areas — we’ve got just the thing.

BISSELL ICONpet Cordless with Tangle Free Brushroll, SmartSeal Filtration, Lightweight Stick Ha…: $199.00

The Bissell ICONpet cordless vacuum cleaner is easily among the best models we’ve tested. It’s more than powerful enough to pick up all the dirt and dust around your home, and it features a wonderful design that’s similar to Dyson’s recent models. In fact, the ICONpet might actually be a bit easier to empty and clean thanks to its nifty filter design. It tackles pet hair with ease — even the long hair my pup sheds all over the place — and the battery lasts between 20 and 30 minutes per charge. That’s not quite as good as the Dyson, but think about how you use your cordless vacuum. Do you really need it to run for an hour or do you just use it to clean a few rooms at a time?

One thing I love about the ICONpet is the LED lighting at the base that shows you all the dirt and pet hair on the floor. You won’t believe how much dirtier your floors are when you can actually see everything down there. Dyson doesn’t have any lighting at all, and our tests found that we missed a lot when we used our Dyson and then ran the Bissell model over the same area.

The Bissell ICONpet really is fantastic, and it retails for $350 which is just over half the price of the Dyson V11. Head over to Amazon right now though, and you can get one for just $199.

7 exclusive limited-time deals only Amazon Prime members can get

%name 7 exclusive limited time deals only Amazon Prime members can get by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • As Amazon temporarily moves away from shipping nonessential items, there are still several Amazon devices that are shipping right away.
  • On Monday, Amazon is hosting an exclusive sale with seven different deals with deep discounts that are available only to Amazon Prime members.
  • Among the special limited-time deals are 2020-low prices on the Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Fire tablets like the Fire 7 Tablet for just $39.99.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Last week, we told you about a series of special limited-time deals that were available only to Amazon Prime members. The deals were especially surprising because Amazon has begun to stop restocking nonessential items as it temporarily moves toward shipping only things like food, medical supplies, cleaners, and other essentials people might need during the coronavirus quarantines. Of course, we’re all going to be spending a lot of time indoors in the coming weeks and months, so we need things to occupy our time just as much as we need essentials. That is perhaps why Amazon is offering a new batch of Prime-exclusive deals with deep discounts for a limited time.

If you’re not already a Prime member and you want to get in on the action, you can start your 30-day Amazon Prime free trial and you’ll instantly become eligible to get all these deals. Amazon Prime is going to come in handy over the next few months for much more than just this batch of deals though, so it’s a great time to join regardless of today’s special sale.

The first Prime-exclusive deal we have to tell you about is on one of Amazon’s best-selling products ever, the $40 Fire TV Stick. If you’re a Prime member, you can pick one up today for just $22.99! That’s surprisingly close to the lowest price Amazon has ever charged for its wildly popular streaming dongle, and it typically only goes on sale at this price during big blowouts like Prime Day.

Fire TV Stick streaming media player with Alexa built in, includes Alexa Voice Remote, HD, easy…: $22.99

The Fire TV Stick deal is too good to pass up even though shipping estimates are starting to slip. But if you have a more immediate need for a streaming upgrade, there are three other Fire TV deals you definitely need to check out. The $120 Fire TV Cube, which is a Fire TV Stick 4K combined with an Echo Dot, is down to its lowest price ever right now for Prime subscribers: $89.99. Meanwhile, both versions of the Fire TV Recast OTA DVR get a $90 discount. That means the 500GB version is down to $139.99 instead of $230, and the 1TB model can be had for $189.99 instead of $280.

Fire TV Cube, hands-free with Alexa built in, 4K Ultra HD, streaming media player, released 201…: $89.99

Fire TV Recast, over-the-air DVR, 500 GB, 75 hours, DVR for cord cutters: $139.99

Fire TV Recast, over-the-air DVR, 1 TB, 150 hours, DVR for cord cutters: $189.99

Now that your TV is taken care of, it’s time to focus on portable entertainment and Amazon definitely has Prime members covered. For a limited time, you can get all three different Fire tablet models at the lowest prices of 2020 so far. That makes the $50 Fire 7 Tablet just $39.99, the $80 Fire HD 8 is on sale for only $49.99, and the $150 flagship Fire HD 10 Tablet is $50 off, dropping the price to $99.99.

Fire HD 8 Tablet (8″ HD Display, 16 GB) – Black: $49.99

All-New Fire HD 10 Tablet (10.1″ 1080p full HD display, 32 GB) – Black: $99.99

Of note, Amazon’s all-new Kindle and waterproof Kindle Paperwhite are discounted as well on Monday, and you don’t need to subscribe to Amazon Prime to take advantage of these two deals.

iOS 14 on iPhone 12: I can’t stop staring at this iOS 14 concept video

  • Apple’s iPhone 12 release is the most hotly anticipated product launch of 2020, and a recent report from a reliable source suggested that it’s still on track for late this summer.
  • The upcoming iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models are Apple’s most eagerly awaited smartphones in years, due in large part to the upcoming redesign and a slew of new features.
  • Several of the new features we can expect will involve new hardware, but some of the most exciting changes will be brought about by Apple’s new iOS 14 software.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The biggest news in the tech world last week was a report from Bloomberg that brought some much-needed good news: Apple’s iPhone 12 release apparently won’t be delayed. Multiple earlier reports had suggested that the worldwide novel coronavirus pandemic would lead to delays with Apple’s iPhone 9 release and its iPhone 12 launch, but now it appears as though the iPhone 12 is back on track.

If all goes according to plan, we can expect new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro models to be unveiled in early September — likely with a virtual press conference as opposed to a live event — and then the should be released toward the end of the month. There’s still a very good chance that supply will be severely constrained at launch due to the backlog of manufacturing that factories in China will still be working though, but it’s still great news for Apple and its fans that the iPhone 12 will likely debut on time. We’re in store for plenty of heartache in the coming weeks and months, so we’ll all need good news wherever we can get it come September.

Amazon’s blowing out Fire tablets at 2020’s lowest prices

  • With the spread of the novel coronavirus picking up pace dramatically in the United States, Amazon has temporarily stopped shipping most nonessential items.
  • The retailer will continue to deliver some nonessential goods though, and it will also continue to offer special deals to Prime members.
  • Among the top deals available on Monday are deep discounts that slash Amazon’s popular Fire tablets to the lowest prices of the year so far.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Several of the hardest-hit states in the US have now issued orders requiring people to “shelter in place” and stay home unless they absolutely must go out. Health care workers and other people with essential jobs can still go to work, of course, and people can still go out for things like food and medicine. But the only way to slow and eventually stop the spread of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is to stay away from each other as much as possible, and even people in areas that haven’t been hit that hard would be smart to stay home as much as possible.

Amazon is doing its part in all this by temporarily shifting the focus of its business. The company will stop restocking nonessential items for the next few weeks and focus on delivering essentials like food and medical supplies. The nation’s top online retailer will still offer some deals on nonessential items though, and on Monday it kicked off a sale that will definitely help people pass the time while in quarantine.

If your main concern while self-quarantining is to catch up on some reading, you’ll be happy to know that both the Kindle and waterproof Kindle Paperwhite are on sale today with discounts up to $35. They’re obviously the best eBook readers out there and they have no close competition, so now is the perfect time to buy one. But if you would rather get a device that lets you read eBooks and do so much more like play games and watch streaming movies and shows, there are some other deals you need to check out. There is one catch though: These three deals are only available to Amazon Prime members.

First up, the Fire 7 Tablet that normally costs $50 is on sale today for just $39.99. There’s simply no tablet out there that offers a user experience this good for anywhere close to that price. You get access to every app and game you can imagine, plus all of the streaming movie and TV show services you might subscribe to. All that for just $40!

Fire 7 Tablet (7″ display, 16 GB) – Black: $39.99

If you’re willing to spend a tiny bit more money, the $80 Fire HD 8 Tablet is down to just $49.99 today. That’s only $10 more than the entry-level tablet, and you get a high-definition display that’s so much better than the one on the Fire 7.

Fire HD 8 Tablet (8″ HD Display, 16 GB) – Black: $49.99

Last and most certainly not least, the flagship Fire HD 10 Tablet that normally costs $150 is on sale today for Prime subscribers for just $99.99. You get the same great software and all the same apps as you would on the smaller tablets, but it’s more powerful and it has a nice big 10.1-inch screen with beautiful 1080p resolution.

All-New Fire HD 10 Tablet (10.1″ 1080p full HD display, 32 GB) – Black: $99.99

Google’s coronavirus website seems underwhelming, but it’s what many need right now

%name Google’s coronavirus website seems underwhelming, but it’s what many need right now by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Google’s information website for the novel coronavirus went live over the weekend, featuring handy information about the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The site isn’t the resource Trump promised to be, but it’s precisely what many people may need right now, especially when it comes to combating fake news campaigns with accurate, succinct coronavirus information.
  • The website doesn’t offer information about coronavirus testing locations, or a way for users to sign up for tests.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google announced a few days ago that it was building Trump’s coronavirus website it didn’t know it was building. Google’s announcement came a couple of days after the president declared COVID-19 a national emergency and revealed that Google was developing what sounded like a massive resource to assist the government during the coronavirus outbreak. “Google is helping to develop a website. It’s gonna be very quickly done — unlike websites of the past — to determine whether a test is warranted and to facilitate testing at a nearby convenient location,” Trump said, adding that Google had “1,700 engineers” on it and that they’ve made significant progress. It turned out that Google had no coronavirus in development at the time of the press conference.

Since then, however, Google developed a COVID-19 website, which was launched over the weekend. It hardly looks as sophisticated as Trump may have lead you to believe, but it’s exactly the resource many people might need right now.

Amazon will stop shipping nonessentials in Italy and France due to coronavirus

%name Amazon will stop shipping nonessentials in Italy and France due to coronavirus by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon will stop shipping non-essential goods to buyers in Italy and France during the coronavirus outbreak, as it’s prioritizing the delivery of health and household staples.
  • France and especially Italy are at the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in Europe, with thousands of cases and hundreds of death having been confirmed in the past few days.
  • Separately, Amazon is looking to hire thousands of workers in the US, where its ready to pay double for overtime during the crisis.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Amazon a few days ago suspended non-essential shipments from sellers in the US, UK, and Europe, as it shifted focus to health products and household goods. The company said at the time that it would still fill orders for low-priority products as long they’re still in stock at warehouses, but new stock will not be added until April 5th at the earliest. Over the weekend, news broke that Amazon would stop selling non-essentials to customers in Italy and France, two of the regions that have been hit the hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.

If you lost your job because of the coronavirus, Jeff Bezos wants you to apply at Amazon

%name If you lost your job because of the coronavirus, Jeff Bezos wants you to apply at Amazon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has written a memo addressed to Amazon’s employees in which he outlines a number of steps the company has taken in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis.
  • The coronavirus impact has been devastating to the economy, Bezos writes, adding that he hopes people who’ve been laid-off from restaurants and bars, among other jobs, will apply to work at Amazon “until they’re able to go back to the jobs they had.”
