The incredibly long time it takes for many Android phones to receive software updates is something that has driven users crazy for years now. Longtime Android fanboy Lorenzo Franceschi-Bicchierai recently reached a breaking point with Android after news broke this week about a massive flaw in the platform that lets hackers compromise Android devices simply by sending them either an MMS message or a multimedia file. In particular, Franceschi-Bicchierai was enraged that it would take so long for his phone to get a necessary patch, if it ever got it at all.

The Lexus Slide hoverboard shown off in a teaser ad not long ago turned plenty of heads. It was meant to be more of a publicity stunt than a real product, at least according to what Lexus said, but the hoverboard is actually real and it’s coming sooner than you think.

It’s a busy day in the tech world today as Microsoft just a few hours ago released Windows 10 in 190 countries. And in case you missed it, the friendly folks in Redmond are making the upgrade to Windows 10 completely free for existing Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. Of course, if you happen to be running Vista or XP, there are ways for you to get Windows 10 for free as well.

Thus far, early reviews of Windows 10 have been overwhelmingly positive as Microsoft seems to have corrected many of the frustrations that plagued Windows 8. Which is to say, if you’re a Windows user, this is an upgrade you’d be well advised to check out as soon as possible.

When was the last time I actually felt excited by a new version of Windows? I think I’d have to go back all the way to Windows 98, which came out at a time when Microsoft completely ruled the computing world and Apple was on death’s doorstep. The device plugs into the HDMI port on any HDTV or monitor and instantly gives users access to movies, TV shows, videos, music, photos and more that can be streamed from any Android device. Best of all, perhaps, the Chromecast is wonderfully inexpensive at just $29.99.

One smartphone feature iPhone users don’t have access to yet is true wireless charging. Sure, there are cases that enable the functionality and you can add wireless charging support with a quick hack, but Apple has yet to build the feature into the phone. There’s at least one reason that hasn’t happened so far, and Qualcomm may already have a fix for it.
