When I first heard John Oliver was getting his own show on HBO, I wasn’t excited at all. Oliver was amusing at times on The Daily Show, but his deliveries were often labored and I generally found him to be pretty annoying. Honestly, I really didn’t think he would be able to carry a show himself. It’s a good thing HBO is better at doing HBO’s job than I am at doing HBO’s job, because Last Week Tonight is a fantastic addition to the network’s Sunday night lineup.

The show took the night off this past Sunday because of the July 4th holiday, but Oliver still released a quick bit on the Last Week Tonight’s YouTube channel, and while fans certainly would have preferred a full episode, it was absolutely hilarious.
