A troubling lawsuit coming out of California alleges that a woman was fired from her job after she uninstalled an app that her employer requested all employees had to download. The troubling aspect of the story is that the app in question was capable of tracking employee location data even when employees weren’t on the clock.

The lawsuit in question was filed by Myrna Arias who was previously employed by Intermex Wire Transfer as an account manager. According to the suit, originally spotted by Ars Technica, Arias’ boss asked her and other employees to download a mobile app called Xora which, according to the app description on the App Store, allows mobile workers to record pertinent information when they are on the go.

This past January, I shared the story of how I lost 50 lbs in just three months, and I wrote about how technology helped me do it. More important than the amount of weight I lost and the speed at which I lost it were the lifestyle changes I made and the good habits I formed along the way, thanks largely to some good advice and some good apps.

But a huge piece of the puzzle was still missing, and I think I just found it.

On Monday, The Washington Post published some excerpts from a new book on Elon Musk written by Ashlee Vance called Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future that really made the brilliant Tesla and SpaceX CEO look fairly insane. However, Musk took to Twitter on Tuesday to specifically refute one particular excerpt in the book that alleged he ripped into an employee for missing a company event to witness the birth of his first child.

A pair of ex-Googlers is bringing another player to the news app space today with their launch of Spotter, an app that crawls hundreds of news sites to try to bring users information that matters to them and could help their careers.

The app, which launches first for the iPhone and iPad, and is headed to the Web and Android soon, was developed by Jon Emerson and Tom Charytoniuk, both of whom worked on various aspects of the Google+ experience, among other things, while they were with the search giant.

They built Spotter, they explained, on the premise that the most relevant articles to a user can come from anywhere – from Medium posts to The New York Times and everything in between. And rather than jump into different streams or manually pick content creators to follow, their goal is for Spotter itself to do the heavy lifting of picking and choosing.
