As I noted in a recent post, judging the Apple Watch before you take the time to try it can be a huge mistake. Following Apple’s unveiling, I wasn’t impressed at all with the device from a personal standpoint, though I obviously appreciated the implications. After using it, however, I did a complete 180; there’s no question that this is a nonessential device, obvious, but it’s a game-changer that finally makes the smartwatch category matter.

LG on Tuesday finally unveiled the G4, its flagship device that’s supposed to take on the iPhone 6 and top Android handsets from competitors, including the Galaxy S6 and the HTC One M9 that launched in stores a few weeks ago. Samsung on Wednesday announced that profits during the company’s first quarter fell by a troubling 39%, dropping from approximately $7.8 billion in the same quarter a year ago to $4.35 billion during the company’s most recent quarter.

At the heart of Samsung’s drastic financial decline is a mobile division that is in desperate need of a boost. Year over year, profits from Samsung’s mobile unit fell by well over 50%, dropping from 6.43 trillion won to 2.74 trillion won, a decrease of nearly $3.4 billion.

Microsoft is expected to launch a new flagship tablet/laptop convertible at some point later this year, a Surface Pro 4 model that’ll likely run Windows 10 out of the box. However, there are plenty of Surface Pro 4 rumors swirling, with Chinese publication 36kr.com claiming to be in possession of new information regarding the upcoming machine, which suggests the device will be somewhat similar to the Retina MacBook when it comes to certain features.

Best Buy on Monday announced it’ll support a new wireless payments technology both in stores and in a version of its mobile app, with the latter option available immediately, despite not having been eager to do so in the past.

The mobile payment solution is Apple Pay, which is currently the most used such app even though it arrived much later to the NFC payments game than competing offers from Google and others.
