Apple is reacting to the coronavirus outbreak in the United States by offering employees — including retail and hourly workers — unlimited sick leave for symptoms associated with a COVID-19 infection. As 9to5Mac reports, employees will not be penalized for taking time off to self-quarantine if they fall ill, providing a bit of peace of mind for employees affected by the outbreak.

The news comes on the heels of a memo sent by Tim Cook telling Apple office workers around the world that they are welcome to work from home if they can do their jobs remotely. Apple Store locations have remained open throughout the outbreak, though it’s now clear that the company won’t penalize workers for taking as much time off as they need if they do come down with something.

Each passing day brings thousands upon thousands of new COVID-19 cases around the world, and the novel coronavirus is just beginning to spread in various regions around the US. • Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 is one of its next major smartphone releases planned for just a matter of months from now, and leaks have started piling up about this hotly anticipated new device.
• New renders have emerged that aggregate some of the leaks that have trickled out from Samsung thus far and have been used to prepare a best-guess estimation of what this new addition to the Note lineup will look like.

One of the next major smartphone releases this year from Samsung is the Galaxy Note 20 that should be launching in a matter of months, and about which the leaks have already started to pile up. Such as this one we told you about just last week, about the possibility of microSD support — not to mention the fact there are hints already that the device could end up being more affordable than we’d have originally guessed. Another intriguing leak we reported last month came as the result of a Samsung patent filing, which suggests the company may be planning something pretty cool for the Note 20 — an all-new curved display that could wrap around the phone’s edges.

Meanwhile, new product renders have emerged that take some of what’s been reported about the device thus far to present it in the form of 3D, color images. This hotly anticipated new high-end phone from Samsung, which is expected to see a release date in the back half of the year, probably won’t look 100% like the images you see in this post or the video above, but they in all likelihood give a solid idea of where we can expect the design to end up.

• Apple’s first iOS 14 beta isn’t expected to be released until June, and it’s likely still on track despite the inevitable cancellation of WWDC 2020 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.
• A pair of Apple blogs have managed to find sources who have gotten their hands on an early internal build of iOS 14, and they have been leaking several new features over the past few days.
• One such blog is called MacRumors, and it published several reports overnight that describe five key features coming to Apple’s next-generation iOS 14 software.

There’s no question whatsoever that 2020 is shaping up to be a huge year for Apple in terms of new product releases. While the impact of the novel coronavirus that originated in Wuhan, China could severely limit new availability and even delay some release dates, Apple is still expected to release a slew of new products this year. Highlights include a new iPhone 9 (which could also be called “iPhone SE 2” or simply “iPhone”) is expected to debut later this month with the iPhone 8’s design, many of the iPhone 11’s key specs, and an affordable price tag that starts at $399. New iPad Pro models are also expected in the coming months, as are new MacBook Pro laptops, a new Apple TV, and more. Then, later this year in September, Apple is expected to show off not three but four new completely redesigned iPhone 12 models. The handsets are expected by top Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo to include two iPhone 12 models with different sized screens, as well as two iPhone 12 Pro models with different display sizes. New Apple “AirTags” like Tile trackers could also be released alongside the iPhone 12 series.

New Apple hardware is always exciting, of course, but there’s another key aspect of Apple’s business that might be even more exciting. IOS is also updated each year, and the update will be obtained by far more Apple customers than new hardware devices. Hundreds of millions of current and new Apple device users will gain use iOS 14 in the years following its release, and now a slew of new features that are coming to iPhones in iOS 14 just leaked.

Apple’s first cord-free earbuds with active noise cancellation were also the hottest headphones out there ahead of the holidays. They weren’t even discounted during most of the holiday shopping season last year, and yet they still flew off the shelves both online and in stores. The best deal out there can during Black Friday and Cyber Week, when Amazon dropped the price of brand new AirPods Pro to $234 and change. Today, they’re back on sale at that all-time low price.

The only catch is that AirPods Pro is that stock has been very limited latest, so they’ll likely soon be listed as “temporarily out of stock” again on Amazon, despite being in stock and available for free Prime shipping as of the time Of this writing. Once that inevitably happens, it simply means that new orders won’t ship out right away. When can you expect to receive them once they’re listed as out of stock? Normally we say within a week or two, but out-of-stock AirPods Pro have been shipping even faster than normal recently. Our guess is that if you order them today, you’ll have them in your hands (and ears) within a week.

That’s a massive $81 discount, and they’re guaranteed to look and function like new or you can return them within 90 days for a full refund.

• GameStop announced something of a Hail Mary play late Monday — the addition of some retail industry heavyweights to its board of directors, including former Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé.
• Fils-Aimé led Nintendo during a time of dramatic change throughout the gaming industry, and he did it quite well. Under his leadership, the company’s revenue quadrupled from 2005 to 2010. He launched products that defined big moments in the industry, from the Nintendo DS to the WII, 3DS, and the Nintendo Switch.
• Some of those products helped people who wouldn’t have otherwise considered themselves gamers become fans of and quite attached to the Nintendo brand. The thinking is that perhaps he can bring those same skills to the ongoing turnaround effort at GameStop.

GameStop’s business has fallen off a cliff over the past year or so, with the video game retail chain facing considerable challenges not unlike those seen elsewhere across the retail landscape — like at bookstores, which got hollowed out by Amazon and e-readers. The thing that’s killing both of those is really the power of convenience, with digital distribution pretty much rendering a trip to a physical location of any kind of retail operation mostly obsolete now. That’s why when you visit your local Barnes & Noble, for example, what do you see — a massive selection of books, yes, but also everything from vinyl to bottled water to all kinds of other tchotchkes like desktop calendars and other pointless crap that the store is hoping, if you won’t walk out having spent money on a book, maybe we can at least pry some money out of your wallet some other way. It can leave the smell of desperation wafting from a retailer, and GameStop has been pursuing its own version of this same approach as customer traffic to its physical stores drops off and people do more gaming online.

Up to this point, GameStop has been throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks (and almost nothing has). When you visit a location, you’re often accosted about pre-ordering the latest hit game. Used titles have famously been marked up so much it leaves a bad taste in many shoppers mouths, and when you couple all that with the length of time it’s been since new consoles have launched and driven a wave of new business, the chain is in something of a vicious downward spiral right now. Which brings us to Monday, and specifically to some new additions GameStop announced to its board of directors.
