Ever since the latest overhaul to the App Store, it’s been harder than ever to find the best new apps, especially in the increasingly crowded games section. Scrolling endlessly through the preset categories can be agonizing, but the addition of the Best New Game Updates section, which includes a group of popular games from the past few months that have recently received major updates, should put even more of the most worthwhile apps front and center.

As it happens, Samsung issued a warning about its upcoming quarterly earnings literally hours before Walmart’s decision to discount the iPhone 5c to $29, apparently permanently. Oddly enough, smartphone chip titan Qualcomm’s share price has started lagging NASDAQ since early June even as overall tech investment sentiment remains giddy. Isolated events? Or omens of high-end gadget sales slowing down? Unfortunately, it’s probably the latter.

Hearthstone took the gaming world by storm this year when it launched on the iPad, ushering in thousands of new players and topping the charts on the App Store for weeks. There’s no question that Blizzard’s take on the collectible card game has been a phenomenon, but Hearthstone is about to take another step forward with the release of its biggest content update ever on PC and iPad, featuring 30 new cards and a brand new single-player adventure mode called Curse of Naxxramas.

T-Mobile has worked hard to create an image of itself as the pro-consumer wireless carrier but some of its recent moves have proven to be controversial when it comes to net neutrality issues. First, T-Mobile announced last week that it would exempt some music services’ data from customers’ monthly data caps, which sparked some concerns that the carrier was putting itself in the position to pick winners and losers. And now FierceWireless brings us word that T-Mobile has decided to exempt all speed test applications and websites from users’ monthly data caps as well.

Moment is a new iOS app that has some interesting tracking abilities, TechCrunch reports. The app will run in the background, looking at how much you use the phone each day, and – if enabled – it will even track locations. Furthermore, the app can list usage statistics and can help users set up a limit on their daily iPhone usage in order to cut down their addiction.

The strong early sales performances of the Xbox One and PS4 consoles have caused some jubilation. The PS4 is clearly leading the Xbox One in sales volume at this point, but both consoles can be claimed to have beaten expectations at least marginally. One sign of this strength can be found in the share prices of Electronic Arts and Activision, which have jumped giddily since the new consoles hit stores.

The iFind Kickstarter campaign that many publications questioned earlier this week, believing it’s nothing more than a scam meant to steal money from unsuspecting backers, has been officially suspended, The Register reports. WeTag, the makers of iFind who were seeking $25,000 in funding, would have gotten access to over $546,000 in pledges in just a few days. Despite the questions raised on Kickstarter about the product, which were picked up by various publications, WeTag managed to raise even more money as it was criticized for the way it handled the matter.

The Brits don’t really have a major auto show these days. Not in a conventional sense, anyway, with stationary vehicles under floodlights in a closed exposition space. What they do have, you could argue, is much better: the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where the public can view the latest machinery not only under an open sky, but in motion as well, speeding up Lord March’s front lawn. And this year, British automakers are rolling in with some very enticing new metal.
In the past few days alone we’ve confirmed the McLaren 650S GT3 and MSO, Jaguar F-Type Project 7, Range Rover Sport SVR and Ariel Ace will all be revealed for the first time at Goodwood this weekend. Ford isn’t, strictly speaking, a British automaker, but for all its history in the UK, it might as well. So it’s chosen Goodwood as the site to unveil its refreshed Focus ST.
The upgraded Blue Oval hot hatch still packs a 2.0-litre turbo four with 252 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque driving through a six-speed manual to the front wheels, so we’re not expecting much change in measurable performance. But Ford has given the new Focus ST a new front suspension setup and a new electric power-assisted steering rack that combine to promise improved handling.
While it was at it, Ford has equipped the 2015 Focus ST with redesigned front and rear fascias, HID and LED lighting, 18-inch wheels and an improved cabin complete with a redesigned centre stack, centre console and front door panels, a new flat-bottom steering wheel and standard rear-view camera. Buyers will also be able to opt for a new shade of silver and black or red racing stripes as well as a heated steering wheel and eight-way power driver’s seat – all of which promises to make one of our favourite hot hatches that much better, and that can be no bad thing.
