Google got its annual I/O conference off to a fast start on Wednesday when it announced that it would be bringing interactive notifications to Android starting with Android L. Among other things, the notification center will make sure that when you receive a phone call, it won’t interrupt what you’re doing on your device. So for instance, if you’re playing a game on your Android phone and a friend calls, their call notification won’t take up the entire screen. Rather, it will pop up at the top of your display and give you the option of either answering or dismissing it. Additionally, the new notifications centers makes it much easier to unlock your phones with alternatives to traditional PIN numbers while also giving you more options for prioritizing your notifications.

Google’s biggest event of the year is now officially underway. Google brings thousands of developers together each year for its annual I/O conference and thankfully, it also streams the opening keynote live so Google fans around the world can see all the action as it unfolds.
