Sometimes being an animal lover can get you into serious trouble, especially if you’re not thinking of your fellow man. In 2010, Emma Czornobaj stopped her car in the left lane of a Canadian highway south of Montreal to rescue a group of ducklings. However, a motorcyclist riding with his daughter as a passenger crashed into the back of Czornobaj’s car while it was stopped, killing them both.

The case went to trial, and the story has dominated Canadian news for some time now. Just a few days ago, Czornobaj was convicted of two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing death in a Canadian court. According to the CBC, her explanation in court was that she saw the ducklings along the side of the road without their mother in sight. As an animal lover, she decided to stop her car to rescue the birds and take them home with her.

Her punishment for the deaths isn’t yet known, but according to the Montreal Gazette, sentencing is scheduled for August. Czornobaj’s lawyer is trying to make sure she gets no jail time because this is a first offence and there was no criminal intent in the fatalities. Regardless of the sentencing outcome, it’s a tragedy all around. Click here to watch the video report with commentary about the jury’s decision.

There are times when you have to wonder whether Sprint chairman Masayoshi Son doesn’t wish that he just bought T-Mobile and left Sprint to its own devices. Sprint on Monday announced that it’s once again going to follow one of T-Mobile’s latest “Uncarrier” initiatives by offering a 30-day trial to new customers who are interested in trying its service starting on June 27th. To be fair, this free trial is much longer than the 7-day trial that T-Mobile is offering, but given that Sprint made this announcement one week after T-Mobile first launched its own

I was at this grim Helsinki airport hotel two days ago and decided to watch an old horror flick on my laptop since Finnish television stations were running wolverine documentaries and cooking shows. I ended up renting Don’t Look Now for $2.99 on Amazon to figure out whether it really was an overrated piece of pseudo-art or a horror masterpiece. I’m still not sure either way, but the movie was interesting enough.

Recent reports have claimed that Google won’t be making a Nexus 6 smartphone this year, and will instead replace the Nexus family with a new Android Silver line of premium devices. What’s more, LG has also denied that it’s working on such a smartphne, which is significant because LG was responsible for developing the last major Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 5. However, Ausdroid has learned from “a source within Google who is close to the project” that the Nexus 6 is still very much in the picture and will be launched later this year.
