If you think about how long it took for streaming services to start popping up after decades of cable TV dominance, it’s pretty crazy how quickly the industry is moving now. Netflix is obviously still miles ahead of any of its rivals and that’s not likely to change anytime soon. The company continues to invest billions upon billions of dollars into original content as well as licensing fees for popular movies and series from other studios. The result is what is hands-down the single best content catalog on the planet, and it’ll remain at the top for a long time to come. But other services that have sprouted up over the past few years continue to bolster their offerings and grow more and more appealing to potential subscribers.

Disney+ is the biggest newcomer on the block thanks to its massive catalog of popular content and shockingly low price. At $6.99 each month or as little as $5.83 if you pay annually, it’s a no-brainer. Amazon Prime Video is another big one, and tens of millions of people already had access to it right on launch day since it’s included with Amazon’s Prime subscription. There is a discussion to be had about whether or not consumers are actually asking for foldable phones, or if this is just some arbitrary decree from the smartphone makers that we’re expected to follow. Either way, the foldable phone revolution is upon us, and although it might be short-lived, it’s still worth exploring the technology that makes foldable phones possible, which is why the iFixit teardown of the Motorola Razr is especially fascinating.

As you might expect, attempting to repair or fidget with the internal components of the Razr is a daunting proposition. iFixit went as far as to call the foldable Razr the “most complicated phone-based contraption we’ve ever taken apart.” There were a number of reasons for that, but the biggest hurdle was the sheer amount of glue.

Google announced a major update for Google Maps a few days ago, in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the service. The update included a significant redesign with a brand new app icon as well as a few important changes to the Maps user interface. On top of that, Google improved the navigation experience related to commuting by adding more information about trains and busses, and it also added a new feature to its Live View mode to better help users find their destinations while walking. Google said at the time that those features would start rolling out gradually, and now they’re widely available on Android and iPhone.

Samsung announced its flagship Galaxy S20 lineup earlier this week, and the dust is finally settling so we can all fully process everything the company announced. Strategically, we have no idea what the heck Samsung is thinking. The entry-level Galaxy S phone was Samsung’s best-selling model last year according to estimates, but the Galaxy S20 line completely abandons the “entry-level flagship” segment. In the US, Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 smartphones will start at $1,000 and climb all the way above $1,500 for a maxed-out Galaxy S20 Ultra. The company will continue to sell its Galaxy S10 phones with a $150 discount on each model, but last year’s phone is a tough sell when this year’s iPhone 11 starts at $699.

Moving beyond strategy, however, there’s really no question whatsoever that Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 lineup is made up of the three most impressive Android smartphones we have ever seen. They all feature bleeding-edge specs with an unprecedented minimum of 12GB of RAM that goes up to 16GB in the ultra-premium Galaxy S20 Ultra, and they all feature big, beautiful OLED displays atop stunning all-screen designs with hole-punch cameras. When it comes to the cameras, however, it’s not the front-facing hole-punch cameras that are the talk of the town right now. It’s the unrivaled 108-megapixel camera on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, and it has now officially blown my mind.

The coronavirus outbreak has forced the GSMA to cancel the biggest mobile show of the year. MWC 2020 is officially dead, but that’s not entirely bad news. As we’ve already explained, we’ll be in for few interesting weeks when it comes to new mobile products. Everything that was supposed to be unveiled at MWC will be announced separately, with smartphone vendors already planning their own press events. The first announcement already happened online in China, where Xiaomi unveiled the Galaxy S20 rival we all expected to see at MWC. And the phone’s most surprising feature is wireless charging that so fast it actually beats the Galaxy S20’s fast wired charging.
