Steve Wozniak joins critics who think Apple Card algorithm might have a major flaw – gender bias

Over the weekend, one of Apple Card’s most high-profile users — who also happens to be none other than Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak — took the dramatic step of joining in the calls from critics who want more government oversight over the algorithms used to make decisions about card users.

Case in point: Wozniak said Goldman Sachs, the financial services giant that teamed up with Apple to offer the banking-type services and infrastructure associated with the card, gave Wozniak a 10x Apple Card credit line compared to the one extended to his wife. That’s despite the fact that the couple shares various bank and credit card accounts and that other lenders more or less treat them the same for credit purposes.

Scientists can fool poachers by making fake rhino horns out of horse hair

%name Scientists can fool poachers by making fake rhino horns out of horse hair by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Rhinos have been hunted and killed for their horns for so long that the many species are teetering on the brink of extinction. Some subspecies, like those of the black rhino, are extinct in areas where they once thrived and nearly extinct in others. The situation is incredibly dire and conservation efforts haven’t been as effective as one would hope, but science might be able to step in with a solution.

In a new paper published in Scientific Reports, researchers explain how they manufactured fake rhino horn using horse hair. The fake horn is similar in look and feel to the real thing, and even the chemical composition of the faux horn is similar to an actual horn. This could change everything.

Cable TV subscriber losses in 2020 could top the populations of Chicago and Houston combined

This new chapter of the Streaming Wars that we’re in, with Netflix continuing to crush it and new streamers on the way from Disney, HBO’s parent company, and others, one of the things you hear said a lot it is that the embarrassment of streaming riches all those sources provide makes viewers the winners. That consumers come out the best in the end, because we’ve got so much great stuff to choose from — especially since all this competition should theoretically make the streamers all step up their game, knowing what they’re up against.

But if we consumers have it best in this scenario, what about the opposite end of the spectrum? Who’s in the worst or rather the least desirable position here? For that answer, we turn to a new analyst report that paints a dire picture of what cable TV providers will face in 2020.

We’re just hours away from the launch of Disney+, which brings with it a library of over 600 movies and shows, but the king of the media streaming world continues to chug along as if this is any standard week. This isn’t an especially busy week for Netflix, but there are a few notable releases, including the mystery film Earthquake Bird and the return of original series like Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj and The Toys That Made Us.

I’m also looking forward to I’m with the Band: Nasty Cherry. Chloe Chaidez popped up on my radar a few months ago when I heard the song “Memphis” from her band Kitten on a Spotify playlist. She’s also one of the leads in the band Nasty Cherry, and I’m down for pretty much anything Charli XCX is involved with.

That black cat that stole the show on Monday Night Football is still on the loose

%name That black cat that stole the show on Monday Night Football is still on the loose by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The sports highlight of the year happened during the recent Monday Night Football contest between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. No (human) players were involved. The star of the show was an as-of-yet unnamed black cat that appeared shortly before halftime.

It’s been a big topic of discussion this week, due in no small part to the curse the cat placed upon the lowly Giants. With a stadium packed with people and an army of security guards on hand, you’d think there’s no way it could avoid capture. You’d be wrong.

BGR has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. BGR and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

If you’re interested in seeking out the best credit card offer you can find right now, there’s certainly no shortage of card offers with excellent welcome bonuses to choose from. The really savvy card shoppers, though, know that there are also often targeted welcome bonus offers that are even better than those available publicly (involving the same card, no less). Even better? Anyone at all can search to see if there’s one available for them — all you need to do is know to look in the right place. That place is the CardMatch Tool website.

If you haven’t visited the site in a while, it would be definitely worth it for you to check it out again soon to see what might be available for you. Some people have even been targeted recently for the incredible 100,000-point offer on The Platinum Card® from American Express — an offer that requires $5,000 in spending within the first three months of opening your account in order to earn the 100,000-point welcome bonus.

Here’s proof the first week of Apple TV+ was a success

%name Here’s proof the first week of Apple TV+ was a success by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Now that the first week of Apple’s new streaming TV service is officially in the books, early indications are starting to come in about how the myriad Apple TV+ series have been received so far — and, more important, whether or not the new streamer got off to a solid start or saw its launch fall flat.

We would argue that based on where things stand now, with the free 7-day trial wrapping up on Friday for those of you who signed up on the November 1 launch day, Apple did probably as well as it could have hoped for in taking its first steps toward participating in the so-called Streaming Wars. Tepid responses from critics notwithstanding, Apple’s shows reportedly garnered “millions” of views during week one, but there’s even more reason to believe the launch was a success.

%name Marvel confirmed a dead hero will return, solving one of Endgame’s last mysteries by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Avengers: Endgame is the biggest movie of the year, a massive event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has no rival. The film is filled with amazing Easter eggs that fans of the MCU certainly appreciate, and the fast-paced story is fun to follow, although there are various events that have puzzled fans.

The film’s plot isn’t full of holes, and most everything can be explained — and we did look at the various controversies that emerged after the premiere. Not to mention that Marvel stepped in to clarify matters, going on record to explain some of the more divisive elements of the plot — time travel rules and Captain America’s timeline come to mind. But there’s still something Marvel needs to properly explain, a detail that might prove to be very important for understanding the entirety of Endgame as a film, and of what’s to follow in the MCU.
