Is the Pixel 4’s most revolutionary new feature just a huge waste of time?

%name Is the Pixel 4’s most revolutionary new feature just a huge waste of time? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We can’t tell you how happy we are that Google finally announced its Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL flagship smartphones. It’s not that we’re actually any more excited about these new smartphones than any other new handsets that have been released in the recent past, though there’s no question that Google’s new phones are impressive. No, we’re happy because the countless leaks and rumors have finally come to an end. A few leaks here and there are terrific because they give early adopters something to look forward to. But in the case of the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, it was overkill and we think plenty of people out there were just as sick and tired of all the leaks as we were. Now that the new Pixel 4 phones are official, we can all just relax and enjoy them.

Thanks to all of the aforementioned leaks and rumors, nothing Google announced earlier this week pertaining to the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL came as much of a surprise. In fact, just about everything else the company unveiled at its big hardware event had also leaked. But the Pixel 4 phones were obviously the biggest news from the show this past Tuesday, and now we have less than one week to go before they finally hit store shelves.

%name Report says Apple is about to surprise us with new ‘AirPods Pro’ that’ll launch in the next 2 weeks by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple refreshed the AirPods earlier this year, but that was only a minor upgrade for the iconic wireless earphones. AirPods 2 got a case that can be recharged wirelessly and a brand new chip, but the device still looks exactly as the first-gen model — both of them are available in stores. But Apple is also expected to release a brand new AirPods version later this year, on in early 2020, which we’ve been referring to as AirPods 3. A new story from China claims the actual name of Apple’s next-gen AirPods is AirPods Pro. The redesigned earphones are supposed to be even more expensive than AirPods 2 and might launch as soon as late October.

Google has been porting Waze’s best feature to Google Maps for a while now, but only in a limited fashion and only on Android. That’s the crowd-sourced incident reports feature that tuned Waze into a popular choice for people who drive a lot. Google has been adding support for some of the incident types available in Waze to the Android version of Maps, and users are about to get even more options. Better yet, all those reports are going to be available over on the iOS version of Maps.

Iowa family’s home becomes a horror movie as blood floods their basement

%name Iowa family’s home becomes a horror movie as blood floods their basement by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Depending on the age of any given house, the basement beneath it can range from comfortable and cozy to dungeon-like. Still, even the most ancient unfinished basements would be a big step up from what one Iowa family discovered when they ventured to the bottom floor of their home this week.

The Lestina family found a true horror show resting beneath their feet as animal blood, bones, and blobs of fat covered the floor of their basement to a depth of nearly five inches. In searching for the source of the gore officials didn’t have to look far, as the home sits right next to a meat locker where animals are routinely slaughtered.

Some Tesla owners with older vehicles are experiencing a range of worrisome issues

%name Some Tesla owners with older vehicles are experiencing a range of worrisome issues by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the prevailing narratives surrounding Tesla is that the company isn’t so much an automotive company as it is a tech company. And truth be told, the description fits. Tesla over the past few years managed to shake up the entire auto industry by incorporating any number of novel tech-oriented innovations into its vehicles. As a prime example, Tesla was the first auto company to introduce over-the-air software updates that enabled users to take advantage of new features after driving off the lot.

Unfortunately, though, a Silicon Valley-esque approach to automotive design can sometimes lead to frustrating usability issues. A new report from Business Insider claims that some older Tesla models are experiencing a few glitches wherein the 17-inch touchscreen in-dash display simply stops working. Other users, meanwhile, have noted that older versions of the Model S have simply stopped charging.

Well, I guess I have to pay for HBO Max now

%name Well, I guess I have to pay for HBO Max now by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With all the talk of Apple TV+ and Disney+ lately, both of which are launching within the next month, it can be easy to forget that they are just two of many high-profile streaming services rolling out in the near future. One that will clearly receive a great deal of attention closer to its arrival is the upcoming HBO Max, but on Thursday, WarnerMedia made an announcement so monumental that I have resigned myself to the fact that I will eventually have no choice but to subscribe to yet another service, whether I like it or not.

On Thursday, HBO Max revealed that it has acquired the US streaming rights to the entire Studio Ghibli feature film library. The 34-year-old Japanese studio is responsible for some of the most celebrated animated movies of all time, including the Academy Award-winning classic from 2002, Spirited Away.

%name Yet another patent from Samsung with wild ideas for a new phone has been unearthed by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Studying Samsung’s patent activity is always a good way to get a sense of where its future smartphone technology and innovations might be headed, as the company rushes to put its stamp on all manner of new designs and advancements before its rivals do. The documentation never points to guaranteed releases, but they do suggest potential avenues that Samsung’s product roadmap might take as they reflect new form factors and features that could possibly end up making it into future handset releases.

Divining the next direction Samsung will take is a bit of an art and a science. We reported earlier today about speculation that an upcoming Samsung phone (the Fold 2, but maybe not) would have a design breakthrough we’ve been waiting for — an under-the-display selfie camera. Meanwhile, a patent for which Samsung applied to the World Intellectual Property Office has just been published, revealing some unusual new smartphone features, like a sliding display and a rotating camera housed under the display.
