With hotly-anticipated new streaming media services set to pop up left and right in the coming months, there has been some uneasiness surrounding Netflix lately. Most or even all of it was erased on Wednesday afternoon, however, when Netflix announced third-quarter earnings and crushed the Street’s estimates. EPS climbed to $1.47 compared to earnings of $0.89 per share in the year-ago quarter, and revenue climbed to $5.25 billion from $3.91 billion in the third quarter last year. But the biggest news may have been the addition of 6.77 million new paying subscribers over the course of the quarter, which is a big bounce back from a disappointing second quarter. Despite the impending launches of Apple TV+ on November 1st, Disney+ on November 12th, and HBO Max early next year, Netflix has proven that it can still attract new customers to its ever-expanding catalog of streaming movies, shows, and specials. That said, global growth in markets outside of the United States could prove to be crucial in the coming years; while overall Q3 subscriber additions beat estimates, Netflix only added about 500,000 new subscribers in the US despite estimates that were north of 800,000. It was a sizeable miss, though it was still seen as a victory by many industry watchers, especially since Netflix actually lost US subscribers in the prior quarter.

Long story short, Netflix is in a good place right now. The company is obviously well aware that more competition is coming, but it doesn’t seem to be overly concerned about the longterm impact on its business. “Many are focused on the ‘streaming wars,’ but we’ve been competing with streamers (Amazon, YouTube, Hulu) as well as linear TV for over a decade,” Netflix said in a statement. “The upcoming arrival of services like Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, and Peacock is increased competition, but we are all small compared to linear TV. While the new competitors have some great titles (especially catalog titles), none have the variety, diversity, and quality of new original programming that we are producing around the world.”

Galaxy S10 has a huge security flaw that lets any fingerprint unlock your phone

%name Galaxy S10 has a huge security flaw that lets any fingerprint unlock your phone by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Anyone who’s keeping close tabs on mobile rumors might remember there was a time before the launch of the Galaxy S10 when reports insisted on the fact that the first smartphone in the world to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor of the optical variety will not work with screen protectors. We saw several leaks that showed screen protectors featuring a circular cutout where the fingerprint sensor would be. Samsung then made it clear that the optical sensor does work with screen protectors, but these accessories need to be certified by Samsung. The implication here was that some third-party screen protectors might make fingerprint recognition harder or impossible. It turns out there was some truth to all of that. Products that aren’t certified by Samsung can mess with the fingerprint recognition system, but in a way we didn’t see coming. Apparently, any fingerprint can unlock the phone, not just the one that’s registered with the handset. Samsung is aware of this massive security issue, and it’s working on a patch.

Google Stadia wireless controller needs a wire to work on Pixel phones and laptops

%name Google Stadia wireless controller needs a wire to work on Pixel phones and laptops by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google aims to kill consoles in the near future with an alternative of its own that doesn’t even require you to buy an actual gaming rig for your living room. Instead. Google Stadia will handle all the processing on its own servers and stream the gameplay to your desired screen over the internet for any game you’ve previously bought. You’ll only need to buy the wireless Google Stadia controller and a Chromecast to turn your TV into a game-ready machine. However, that controller needs a wired connection if you plan on streaming games to a supported Pixel device or a PC.

Master & Dynamic’s class-leading true wireless earbuds just got a massive upgrade

%name Master & Dynamic’s class leading true wireless earbuds just got a massive upgrade by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Almost exactly one year and one month ago today, New York City-based premium personal audio brand Master & Dynamic announced its first-ever true wireless earbuds. They blew us away. The MW07 cord-free earphones bested leading rivals like the Apple AirPods in every way, offering a sleeker and more comfortable design as well as much better sound isolation. Most importantly, of course, they sounded amazing. Now, just over one year later, Master & Dynamic is back with a massive upgrade that improves everything from the sound quality and battery life to the industrial design, the case design, and more. On top of all that, the new MW07 Plus true wireless earphones also add active noise cancellation (ANC) as well as an ambient listening mode.

Once again, Master & Dynamic has blown us away with its new premium earbuds, but the company didn’t stop there. In addition to improving the high-end MW07 and pushing even farther ahead of rivals, the company also added the new MW07 Go earphones to its lineup, offering users a less expensive option that still retains much of what makes the MW07 Plus earphones so impressive.

Cops tell Florida man to stop reporting his stolen drugs

%name Cops tell Florida man to stop reporting his stolen drugs by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Nobody wants their stuff stolen. If someone steals your property it’s a good idea to contact the police, especially if you know without a doubt who the culprit is. Unfortunately for one Florida man, that notion doesn’t really apply to illegal drugs.

In a series of tweets by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, deputy Neal Zalva explains the bizarre situation on video while trying to stifle his own laughter. The caller, who claims his weed was stolen by his roommate, demanded that law enforcement investigate the matter. With marijuana still being illegal in Florida for recreational use, a facepalm is the most the cops could offer.

%name This Netflix show is the most talked about series in the world, according to Twitter by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Ahead of Netflix reporting its latest quarterly earnings performance Wednesday afternoon, a number of investment firms are increasingly skeptical about the streaming giant which is about to get a lot more competition in this space. Indeed, several Wall Street banks in recent weeks have actually cut their price targets for Netflix stock as they wait to see how well the company can weather the storm of content churn and the attraction of new services, like Disney+.

The current glass-half-full view of Netflix, however, is as follows: There are some major draws on the horizon, like the imminent release of a new season of The Crown, as well as Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman which will no doubt be an utterly fantastic mob flick. And based on new data, Netflix is also the streaming home for what happens to be the most-talked-about show in the world, based on an analysis of metrics including Twitter data.

Naked man used forklift to break into business, then stopped for a shower

Ever want to drive a forklift through a barbed wire fence, break into a business, strip naked and take a shower? No? Well, then you’re nothing like Joseph Michael Bieniek, a 24-year-old Florida man who was arrested for doing that very thing this past Friday.

To say that Bieniek’s actions were odd would be a massive understatement. According to local news reports, the 24-year-old began his hijinks by entering the warehouse of United Plumbing and nabbing one of the company’s golf carts. He drove the cart a short distance to a nearby business called iMold Water Damage & Mold Restoration. That’s when things took a turn for the surreal.

Netflix drops new ‘The Witcher’ teaser ahead of the first trailer’s release

Netflix’s The Witcher is one of the most anticipated TV series of the season. It’s not supposed to be the next Game of Thrones, they tell us, but it absolutely looks like the kind of TV series that targets the Thrones audience first and foremost. We still don’t have an official release date for the series, aside from a late 2019 estimate, and we also don’t have a trailer, but Netflix did just release one more teaser in anticipation of the full trailer.
