Leak says Galaxy Fold 2 release might be sooner than we thought

Codenamed “Winner,” the Galaxy Fold proved to be anything but a win for Samsung. The foldable device gave the company serious headaches earlier this year when the late-April launch was canceled so Samsung could fix a few huge problems that were causing displays to break. The phone did hit stores in some markets five months later, but the Fold is still a very fragile piece of technology with a screen that’s far too easy to ruin. Foldable devices are still the future of mobile though, and handset vendors shouldn’t stop improving them. Samsung is certainly not going to stop making foldable products or components for them. A new report says the Galaxy Fold 2 is already in the works, with Samsung eying an April launch for the handset.

Samsung’s new idea to replace the notch somehow makes it look even worse

%name Samsung’s new idea to replace the notch somehow makes it look even worse by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Smartphone design in 2018 was dominated by talk about the notch, with all the major smartphone designers and eventually Samsung jumping on board the trend of featuring a notched bezel at the top of the front display. Some of the phones decided to add sensors within the notch that make things like 3D facial authentication possible, though they generally also included bezels at the bottom — meaning the phones tended not to have a corner-to-corner screen design.

Since then, phone makers have experimented with other notch-related designs, including slide-out camera mechanisms and shrinking the notch to the shape of a teardrop. Samsung, meanwhile, may be thinking about something new — a so-called reverse notch, which, in case you’re wondering what that means, is exactly what the name implies.

This could be the worst thing about next year’s iPhone 12

%name This could be the worst thing about next year’s iPhone 12 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

By all accounts, Apple’s new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max are a resounding success. The new iPhone 11 lineup was released just under one month ago and we’ve seen almost universal praise from reviewers and end-users alike. The new cameras — especially the triple-lens camera on the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max — appear to be the upgrade that people are most excited about this year, and that certainly makes sense. Apple had been the market leader in smartphone cameras for years, but the company lost its crown when rivals like Google and Huawei stepped up their mobile photography efforts. In 2019, however, Apple’s new iPhones retook the smartphone camera throne. In fact, not even Google’s just-announced Pixel 4 series manage to top the iPhone 11 Pro, as we’re now seeing in early camera comparisons. Many people expected the Pixel 4 to have the edge, but that’s clearly not the case at all. And what’s particularly crazy is that Apple’s iPhone 11 cameras are about to get even better once the new Deep Fusion feature is released to the public. Currently available to preview in the iOS 13.2 beta, Deep Fusion has already been shown to dramatically improve photo clarity and color reproduction in medium lighting.

Of course, no smartphone is perfect and you won’t find any exceptions in the iPhone 11 series. The biggest issue for the time being seems to be iOS 13. RAM management issues similar to the ones that plagued iOS 11 appear to be having a significant impact on performance, and we’ve seen plenty of evidence of this. But there’s also a key feature that’s missing from this year’s iPhone lineup, particularly when it comes to the high-end iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Apple fans might deny it, but there’s one very important feature that these new flagships should absolutely have. The good news is this missing feature is finally coming to the iPhone 12 series next year, but the bad news is it’s reportedly going to have an unwanted side effect.

iPhone 11 Pro vs. Pixel 4: First camera comparisons might surprise you

%name iPhone 11 Pro vs. Pixel 4: First camera comparisons might surprise you by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google’s Pixel 3 may have set a new bar for mobile photography last year, but Apple’s next-gen iPhone 11 Pro has been trouncing all comers in head-to-head photo battles since hitting store shelves a few weeks ago. At this point, it’s fair to say that the iPhone 11 Pro — with its Night mode capabilities and the recently released Deep Fusion feature that was added to the latest iOS beta update — is the best camera you can get in a smartphone today.

That said, one of the great things about the tech space is that nothing is ever stagnant, and companies are constantly battling to one-up each other. In turn, there was a lot of hype leading up to Google’s Pixel 4 unveiling yesterday. And while the Pixel 4 won’t fall in the hands of consumers until later this month, Tom Warren of The Verge got his hands on one and put Google’s next-gen Pixel up against Apple’s top of the line iPhone 11.

The Pixel 4’s most impressive new feature is a sophisticated gimmick no one really needs

%name The Pixel 4’s most impressive new feature is a sophisticated gimmick no one really needs by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google announced a Pixel 4 feature no iPhone 11 model would have several weeks before Apple actually unveiled the new iPhones. Then we saw it leaked in great detail, at which point I told you that it’s going to be a gimmicky trick. Now that the Pixel 4 series is official, and Google practically confirmed almost all the rumors that preceded the phone’s launch, I’ve changed my mind about it, slightly. It’s a super sophisticated feature that deserves praise and recognition, but it’s still a gimmick that we don’t need on the Pixel 4 or any other phone, at least not in the current format.
