Newly-discovered interstellar object is spewing cyanide gas

%name Newly discovered interstellar object is spewing cyanide gas by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Astronomers spotted an interstellar object passing through our solar system last month. It was only the second time scientists have ever detected such an object, and after some intense investigation, the object — now believed to be a comet or comet-like body — was documented and named for the amateur astronomer who first spotted it.

The comet, called 2I/Borisov, was spotted relatively early in its trip through our system, giving scientists plenty of time to observe it. The first round of studies is already returning some interesting findings, including the fact that the object is dumping cyanogen gas (gas that is at least partly made up of cyanide) as it speeds through our home system.

Sonos’ first portable speaker is seriously blowing my mind

%name Sonos’ first portable speaker is seriously blowing my mind by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I have personally been waiting for Sonos to release a portable speaker ever since I heard the Play:1 for the first time, and the company finally delivered last month when it released the Sonos Move Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker. Honestly, I’ve been using it for a couple weeks already and it’s still blowing my mind.

Sonos’ incredible portable speaker sits on a charging base when you’re at home so you don’t have to fuss with cables or connectors. Then, when you want to bring it to a different room or outside, you just pick it up off the base and you’re good to go. The charger and speaker design alone are terrific, but the real star of the show here is the sound quality. Frankly, I’ve never heard anything like this in a portable speaker. It features fantastic sound quality that projects well indoors and outdoors, and the bass is so much deeper and cleaner than you could ever imagine. On top of that, it supports Bluetooth for when you’re out of range of your home network, and it’s weatherproof so you can bring it anywhere. The Sonos Move also has an awesome feature you won’t find anywhere else: that’s right, it’s Sonos’ well-known Trueplay feature that lets the speaker tune itself based on its surroundings in order to optimize output for the best possible audio quality.

The Sonos Move is in a class of its own, and it’s available right now.

Sonos Move – Smart Portable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Speaker with Alexa Built In: $399.00

Here’s more from the product page:

  • Get brilliant sound anywhere with the weatherproof and drop-resistant Move. Control with your voice, the Sonos app, and Apple AirPlay 2 at home, and stream via Bluetooth when WiFi isn’t available.
  • Experience surprisingly deep bass, a wide soundscape, and automatic Trueplay tuning that perfectly balances the sound for where you are and what you’re listening to.
  • Amazon Alexa is built right in so on WiFI you can play music, check news, set alarms, get your questions answered, and more, completely hands free.
  • Stream over WiFi and connect Move to the rest of your Sonos system at home. Switch to Bluetooth when you’re away and offline.
  • With an IP56 rating, Move stands up to humidity, rain, snow, dust, salt spray, UV rays, and extreme heat and cold.

Apple just released iOS 13.2 developer beta 2

%name Apple just released iOS 13.2 developer beta 2 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The release cycle for iOS 13 betas has mercifully slowed down a bit ever since iOS 13.1 rolled out to the public a few weeks ago, but there’s always more work to be done. And speaking of which, just a week after Apple gave developers access to the first iOS 13.2 developer beta, the second began rolling out this Thursday.

We’re not sure exactly what changes are in store for the new beta release, but the highlight of iOS 13.2 is obviously the Deep Fusion camera technology, which you can read more about here.

The Galaxy S11 might steal a key iPhone 11 feature and make it even better

%name The Galaxy S11 might steal a key iPhone 11 feature and make it even better by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung built its smartphone empire by copying the iPhone extensively, using Apple’s hardware and software designs to dramatically improve its own lackluster Galaxy S phones. That’s not to say Samsung isn’t an innovator in its own right, but the company ha been less willing to take major risks than its biggest rival, which also happens to be a lucrative business partner when it comes to smartphone parts. On the other hand, Samsung was also the only major smartphone maker that didn’t copy the iPhone X’s notch design a couple of years ago. It didn’t even try to replicate Apple’s 3D face unlock technology, which was a first for smartphones. Few companies actually pulled it off, with the list including just Xiaomi and Huawei in 2018, as well as LG, Huawei, and Google this year. But Samsung could come up with its own version of Face ID soon, although a Galaxy S11 with 3D face unlock support might look a lot better than the iPhone 11 and Pixel 4 phones.

%name The Roborock S6 robot vacuum is better than any Roomba, and it’s on sale at its lowest price yet by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’ve seen a few decent deals come and go, but this is by far the best sale we’ve seen so far on the shockingly impressive Roborock S6 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop. This high-end model features suction and performance with pet hair that manage to outshine even the most expensive Roomba robot vacuums we’ve ever tested, and those $1,000+ models don’t even have built-in mopping. With that in mind, $650 is a pretty fair price for the S6. Hurry over to Amazon and use the coupon code ROCKROBOS6 at checkout, however, and you can get one in either black or white for just $519.99! That’s an all-time low, but this deal is only available until the end of the day on Tuesday.

Roborock S6 Robot Vacuum, Robotic Vacuum Cleaner and Mop with Adaptive Routing, Selective Room…: $519.99 (use code ROCKROBOS6)

Here’s more from the Amazon page:

  • Astonishingly efficient: Using adaptive routing with edge optimized cleaning, S6 gives you comprehensive room cleaning fast.
  • Selective cleaning: Control exactly where you want S6 to go, and not go, from your phone. Including selective room scheduling, zone cleaning, and virtual no-go zones and barriers. No add-ons devices or magnetic tape required.
  • Powerful clean: Intense suction, enough to lift AA batteries, cleans deep into carpets and cracks in the floor. All without sacrificing a cleaning time of up to 3-hours in Quiet mode.
  • Easy mopping: Get your floors gleaming with a quick mop. Just snap on the mop unit, adjust the water flow rate to your preferences, and start a cleanup.
  • Quiet and convenient: With a cleaning volume of just 56db (equivalent to a typical conversation) in Balanced mode, you can clean any time day or night without disruption. S6 is also easy to maintain, and the integrated cable tidy in its dock keeps things elegantly wire-free.

HBO just released a list of the 28 best scary movies streaming in October

%name HBO just released a list of the 28 best scary movies streaming in October by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix is obviously the most popular source of streaming movies and TV shows, and we spend plenty of time covering the new content that hits Netflix each month as a result. For example, we recently dove into the complete schedule of 67 new original movies and series set to debut on Netflix during the month of October alone. It’s a busy month indeed, as most months are these days for Netflix. Of course, just because Netflix is so popular doesn’t mean it’s the only game in town, and that’s especially true in October with Halloween just around the corner.

Huawei is about to unveil an all-screen phone design like nothing we’ve ever seen before

%name Huawei is about to unveil an all screen phone design like nothing we’ve ever seen before by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Huawei recently unveiled the Mate 30 series, which includes the Mate 30 Pro flagship that’s supposed to compete directly against flagship phones like the iPhone 11 and Galaxy Note 10. However, the handset has a huge problem in western markets, and that’s the software. While it may all be based on Android 10, the Mate 30 phones ship without Google apps, which means they offer an Android experience unlike anything Android users expect in western markets like the US. Even worse, there’s no easy or safe way to preload Google apps on the phone, so unless Trump lifts the ban on Huawei, you’d have to get used to Huawei’s version of Android 10.

While it’ll be a while until Huawei can impress us with its software, the brand certainly seems ready to take plenty of risks on the hardware side to lure in more customers. And Huawei is about to launch an all-screen phone with a design that’s unlike anything the world has ever seen.

Just two weeks after OnePlus took the stage in India to officially reveal the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus TV, the vendor is holding another event this Thursday in London at 11:00 AM EST / 4:00 PM BST. Not only will European consumers get pricing information for the OnePlus 7T, but we also expect to see the OnePlus 7T Pro in the flesh for the very first time. It’s unclear what markets other than Europe the phone will launch in, though.

In addition to the OnePlus 7T Pro, we should also be introduced to the 7T Pro McLaren Edition, which will follow in the footsteps of the ultra-premium model OnePlus added to the OnePlus 6T line last year. The McLaren Edition will have a unique look, as well as some internal upgrades, such as more RAM and storage.
