Determining how far back in Earth’s history life took root has been an immense challenge for scientists over the years. Finding fossils dating back tens of millions of years can be difficult, but when the timeline stretches to several billion years? Well, let’s just say it’s exponentially harder.

Now, researchers from the University of New South Wales in Australia have discovered what appears to be indisputable evidence of microbial life dating back a whopping 3.5 billion years. The tiny ancient fossils found within some of Earth’s oldest rocks are helping to support the notion that life on our planet began billions of years before humans began looking back in time.

Despite some well-publicized problems with early Model 3 production, Tesla over the past few months has picked up the pace considerably. Indeed, Tesla over the past few quarters has made impressive production strides across the entirety of its product line.

During the most recent quarter, for example, Tesla managed to deliver 95,200 vehicles to customers across the globe, a figure which set a new quarterly record for the electric automaker. Naturally, the figure was achieved on the strength of impressive Model 3 sales. And now comes word that Tesla during the current quarter might manage to eclipse even that figure.

Hulu canceled the ‘Ghost Rider’ series, but that might be great news for the MCU

%name Hulu canceled the ‘Ghost Rider’ series, but that might be great news for the MCU by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Marvel unveiled over the summer all the films and TV series that will be included in Phase 4 of the MCU, hopefully building towards a massive Avengers 5 film. But Marvel is also making other shows that aren’t necessarily related to the MCU, with Hulu carrying several such titles.

However, not all of those projects are going forward, and Ghost Rider is one of the first to get the ax. That’s bad news for fans who have been looking forward to the TV series, but great news for the Avengers.

The display on one of Samsung’s ‘fixed’ Galaxy Fold review units already broke

%name The display on one of Samsung’s ‘fixed’ Galaxy Fold review units already broke by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Galaxy Fold is finally launching this week in the US, months after its original release date. Why? Because of the very few outlets that actually received review units, several reported that theirs broke. Some broke after the reviewers attempted to remove a piece of film which turned out to be vital to the display’s construction, others saw tiny particles become lodged in the hinge, and one or two simply weren’t sure what happened.

Needless to say, it is of the utmost importance that these updated units — which Samsung says are sturdier than the ones that were sent out in April — don’t break. At least not as easily or as randomly. Sadly, that dream may not come true, as at least one reviewer has already discovered his Galaxy Fold display to be damaged.

This black hole animation from NASA is glorious

%name This black hole animation from NASA is glorious by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Scientists may know more about black holes today than ever before, but that doesn’t make them any easier to see. By their very nature, black holes swallow up light that gets too close, and the best (and, so far, only) image we’ve seen of an actual black hole still leaves a lot to the imagination.

But not being able to see a black hole up close doesn’t mean scientists can’t simulate what one might look like if it were sitting right in front of us, and NASA has done just that. The result is the gorgeous visualization you see here.

Alternative iOS app store brings emulators and more to iPhone without a jailbreak

%name Alternative iOS app store brings emulators and more to iPhone without a jailbreak by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s been three years since I first covered Delta, which brought near-flawless emulation of NES, SNES, and Game Boy games to iPhone. In the years since, developer Riley Testut has continued to work on the emulator, adding support for N64 games and, most recently, DS games as well. But up until now, there hasn’t been a way to access the emulator. Starting this Saturday, that changes, as Delta will be available to everyone through the AltStore.

On Wednesday, Testut announced on his website that alongside the Delta emulator, he had also been developing an alternative app store for iOS devices that would allow him (and other developers) to distribute apps that, in his words, “push the boundaries of iOS in ways not possible with Apple’s app review system.” And most importantly of all, you don’t have jailbreak your device to get AltStore and Delta on your phone.

NASA boss floats vague notion of ‘space security’ during trip to Japan

%name NASA boss floats vague notion of ‘space security’ during trip to Japan by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

NASA is looking forward to sending humans back to the Moon within the next five years, and despite some serious hurdles regarding budget and funding, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine seems optimistic the agency can pull it off. Beyond the Moon mission, the near future may include crewed trips to Mars, but on his trip to Japan this week, Bridenstine made it clear that such endeavors would require “security.”

The NASA boss repeatedly emphasized the idea of “space security” during his talks in Japan, noting that the Japanese space program JAXA has been a key partner for some time now. However, the vagueries in Bridenstine’s statements are difficult to parse, at least on the surface.
