We’ve now one day away from seeing Apple open up preorders for its next-generation iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max smartphones. The new iPhone lineup was finally unveiled earlier this week, putting an end to all of the leaks and rumors that had been flooding the internet for months. Interestingly, this time around much of what we heard leading up to the event turned out to be wrong, and there were actually some surprises for Apple fans when the new iPhones were officially unveiled. What’s more, all of the iPhone 11 Pro renders and dummy models we saw leading up to the event were packed full of mistakes, so even the design came as a pleasant surprise — we can’t even remember the last time a new iPhone’s exact design wasn’t leaked months ahead of its debut.

While there were indeed plenty of things about the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max that surprised us, a new tidbit was just uncovered that shouldn’t come as a surprise at all. The first benchmark test scores from a production iPhone 11 Pro were just discovered online, and they absolutely obliterate every single Android flagship phone on the market.

A woman from Sacramento is now in what is being described as a “semi-comatose state” after experiencing a severe reaction to skin cream that was tainted with mercury. The product, which was reportedly imported from Mexico, was apparently contaminated at some point during the distribution process.

The use of the cream, which is branded as Pond’s, resulted in methylmercury poisoning, which is incredibly serious and potentially life-threatening. Sacramento County issued a warning, noting that the cream traveled “through an informal network” before it was purchased, making it difficult to determine where and when it was tainted with mercury, and complicating the search for similar dangerous products.

Sending stuff to space is very, very difficult. It can be easy to forget that, especially with the seemingly constant stream of rocket launches we see these days, but for as many successful launches as there are, there are always at least a few that hit snags along the way. Such is the case for Japan’s HTV-8 cargo mission which was slated to launch on Tuesday but had to be indefinitely postponed due to a fire on the launchpad.

As SpaceNews reports, the spacecraft, which was destined for the International Space Station, remains grounded today after a fire broke out on the platform carrying the H-2B rocket which would have sent it skyward.

If you spend a lot of time staring at screens all day (and all night, for that matter) many of you are no doubt glad to increasingly have a dark mode option become a more familiar part of your smartphone experience.

Personally, Gmail is one of the apps I’m glued to for most of my waking hours, so it’s certainly welcome to see that a dark mode for Gmail is finally rolling out. The caveat is that this is for the Android version of the app only, and you’ll need to be running Android 10.

The premium iPhone 11 versions, the Pro and Pro Max, are just as expensive as we thought they’d be, starting at $999 and $1,099, respectively. The regular iPhone 11, meanwhile, is cheaper than anticipated, with the 64GB version retailing for $699.
