Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has been making phones for quite a few years now, but it’s 2019 the year that marks several meaningful milestones for the company. This was the first time when OnePlus released a series of phones in the first half of the year, two more than what we expected — that’s the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. And the latter was the first 5G phone with OnePlus branding, also one of the first 5G handsets to reach consumers. The novelties don’t stop there, as OnePlus will launch its first Smart TV models this year, followed by a redesigned OnePlus 7T Pro.

Russia launches test of new rocket booster, sends humanoid robot into space

All eyes were on the International Space Station yesterday as NASA astronauts performed a spacewalk to install a new docking port that will allow commercial vehicles to latch onto the orbiting laboratory. Meanwhile, Russia was preparing for some serious work of its own, carrying out a crucial test of its new rocket booster which is expected to replace the stalwart Soyuz-FG rocket sometime in 2020.

That mission kicked off at 8:38 a.m. local time from Russia’s launchpad in Kazakhstan, successfully sending an uncrewed Soyuz capsule skyward on a path toward the International Space Station. The vehicle was empty of any human travelers, but it did have one inhabitant: a humanoid robot strapped into the commander’s seat.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s first Netflix project is getting rave reviews

%name Barack and Michelle Obama’s first Netflix project is getting rave reviews by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix debuted a new documentary on Wednesday that presents a deeply moving portrait of the ground-level workers at a new factory in post-industrial Ohio. It’s a factory reopened by a Chinese billionaire amid the ruins of a shuttered General Motors plant whose closing hammered the Ohio town around it — as well as the thousands of workers laid-off as a result.

What this new documentary American Factory offers is a look at the lives of 2,000 of those blue-collar workers who take jobs at the new factory under the Chinese owner. The owner brings in some of his Chinese employees to work side-by-side with the Americans, and you see what happens when high-tech, uber-efficient Chinese productivity clashes with working-class America.

Samsung enlists controversial influencer for its weird anti-iMessage promotion

I’ve always felt that the color of text message bubbles on our phones attracts an inordinate amount of attention in the world today, though I know there are plenty of people out there who get hot under the collar when a green text message bubble from an Android device user breaks up a blue iMessage thread.

Some of you, no doubt, stay tucked permanently into Apple’s ecosystem at least in part due to iMessage and the significantly better functionality and user experience it offers compared to standard SMS text messages, with both messaging protocols easily distinguishable via their respective blue and green message bubbles.

OnePlus 7T Pro leak may reveal a huge design change for the new phone

%name OnePlus 7T Pro leak may reveal a huge design change for the new phone by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

OnePlus is widely expected to release a OnePlus 7T series of devices this fall, maybe as soon as mid-October. But this is the first time that OnePlus already launched three phones in the first half of the year, featuring two distinct designs. The OnePlus 7 looks just like OnePlus 6T, although it does pack almost the same hardware as the all-screen OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

Those two, however, feature all-screen displays with slide-up selfie cameras. So the obvious question is, what will OnePlus change for the OnePlus 7T? It turns out the answer may have been right in front of us.

This inflatable space habitat was built for comfort, and could travel to Mars

%name This inflatable space habitat was built for comfort, and could travel to Mars by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Humans are headed back to the Moon and, eventually, Mars, and for space-faring astronauts, luxury is often the last thing on their mind. Still, orbiting the Moon or making a long trip to another world like Mars means dealing with cramped quarters for months on end.

Being confined to a tiny space for an extended period of time isn’t ideal for any human, and scientists are no exception. With that in mind, NASA has been exploring potential space habitats that could serve as a more comfortable home for travelers who will be enduring extended stays in space. One such habitat from the Sierra Nevada Corporation has just reached a big milestone.

Google’s new privacy standards want to save us from creepy ad practices

%name Google’s new privacy standards want to save us from creepy ad practices by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

This might strike you at first blush as a bit ironic, coming from one of the most data-hungry tech giants out there. Nevertheless, Google has rolled out the sketches of a plan that it presents as an attempt to both make the web more private, putting increased limits on the ability of sites to track and follow you around the web, while at the same time helping to keep the company’s all-important advertising business generating a steady stream of revenue.

India’s Moon lander just snapped its first photo of the lunar surface

%name India’s Moon lander just snapped its first photo of the lunar surface by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has had a big week already. The group’s Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft successfully entered orbit around the Moon a few days ago, which is a major milestone for a mission that could make India the fourth country on Earth to successfully perform a soft landing on the Moon. Now, with the spacecraft comfortably orbiting Earth’s tiny neighbor, ISRO just released the first photo of the Moon snapped by the lander.

The photo was tweeted out by ISRO earlier today as the group gears up for the ultimate test, which will be landing near the Moon’s south pole.
