What if this was the iPhone 11?

Apple will undoubtedly still have a few surprises left in store when it unveils its new iPhone 11 lineup next month, but most of what is discussed on stage that day will be old news. In fact, we already know exactly when Apple will reveal the new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro handsets (September 10th), when they’ll go up for preorder (September 13th), and when they’ll be released online and in stores (September 20th). The two flagship models, which are rumored to be called the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max (ugh) will look almost exactly like their predecessors, but they’ll feature a new triple-lens rear camera like the one shown in the render above. Then, the entry-level iPhone 11 model will have a similar square camera array, but with two lenses instead of three. We’re also expecting new frosted class on the back and even a new color option for the iPhone 11 Pro models, plus a big boost in performance, of course.

That’s all well and good, but it’s also pretty boring if we’re being honest. Apple’s 2019 iPhone 11 lineup will sport a notch and an 80-something percent screen-to-body ratio when Android vendors are already toying with new form factors and making all-screen smartphones with ratios above 95%. But what if Apple’s upcoming new iPhone 11 was like the iPhone concept in the video below?

Watch Nintendo reveal a bunch of Switch games in this morning’s live stream

%name Watch Nintendo reveal a bunch of Switch games in this morning’s live stream by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’re just a few months removed from E3 2019, where Microsoft and Nintendo each showed off dozens of new titles coming soon to their respective consoles, but in recent years, Nintendo has taken to rationing out its announcements throughout the year via live streamed showcases. The latest is called Indie World, which kicks off at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET on Monday, featuring “roughly 20 minutes of information on indie games coming to Nintendo Switch.”

Nintendo used to call these events Nindies Showcases in the US, and Indie World in Japan, but the company seems to have consolidated branding across continents this time around. That said, if you watched the Nindies Showcase in March, you should basically know what to expect from the stream this morning.

At a private dinner, Tim Cook told Trump that his tariffs are hurting Apple and helping Samsung

%name At a private dinner, Tim Cook told Trump that his tariffs are hurting Apple and helping Samsung by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple investors over the past few weeks have been particularly wary of looming tariff increases on a range of products imported from China. With some devices potentially subject to a tax as high as 25%, it’s widely expected that Apple, when push comes to shove, will eat the tax as opposed to passing along the additional cost to consumers. Either way, Apple’s bottom line is poised to take a hit.

In the meantime, Apple has been lobbying hard to convince the Trump administration that tariffs might lead to a range of unintended consequences. During a June letter Apple sent to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, for example, the company argued that the tariffs would bolster competitors not based in the US.

MIT developed Wi-Fi technology that could seriously improve Netflix binge watching

%name MIT developed Wi Fi technology that could seriously improve Netflix binge watching by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Streaming services like Netflix are worthless without an active internet connection, and your binging sessions will suffer some serious interruption whenever there’s no decent Wi-Fi or cellular connection. As much as Netflix and other companies can adapt their stream to your internet speed, that might not be enough to avoid buffering completely, especially on crowded networks. But MIT has a different solution, one that could help reduce the time you spend waiting for your streaming service to load content.

Apple announced its gaming-focused subscription service Apple Arcade back in March, revealing some of the details about the kind of gaming experience it wants to offer its customers. At the time, however, Apple hasn’t told the audience how much the service will cost and when it’ll launch. But with a few weeks to go until Apple’s mid-September iPhone 11 event, Apple Arcade is already in testing with Apple employees.

When you gaze at the sky on a clear night, you can easily spot countless stars shining bright. Most of them look pretty much identical, aside from varying brightness, but when NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope zooms in on a distant object, it can see it for what it truly is.

In the case of NGC 2022, located in the constellation Orion, Hubble’s imaging tools reveal it to be a big blob of gas surrounding an aging star. It looks absolutely bizarre, but it’s actually the predictable result of a star approaching the later stages of its life.

It was only a matter of time before the deluge of well-known Netflix content began to dry up, and to that point, this week’s slate is not quite as exciting as it has been in recent weeks. That said, there are some potential gems in here, including a comedy special from the intriguing Simon Amstell, who hosted the genuinely hysterical British game show Never Mind the Buzzcocks, which you should try to find online if you can.

Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York is arriving this week as well, along with the second part of the Netflix original anime Hero Mask. Sadly, the underrated Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is departing the service this week, and if you haven’t seen, set aside an hour and a half and give it a spin this weekend.
