Anker made a name for itself by selling high-quality products at surprisingly low prices. These days, however, the company has been undercut by a wave of Chinese brands that sell similar accessories at rock-bottom prices. It’s close, but you’re never going to get Anker quality with those bargain-basement brands. It might be close, but it won’t be Anker. If you want the best of the best at the same rock bottom price you might pay for a no name wireless charger, today is your lucky day. The Anker Ultra-Slim Wireless Charging Pad that normally costs $18 has been slashed to just $9.99 if you use the coupon code ANKER18013 at checkout!

Google is testing a $5/month subscription service called Play Pass that’s like a Netflix for apps

%name Google is testing a $5/month subscription service called Play Pass that’s like a Netflix for apps by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple unveiled its Arcade gaming subscription service back in March, but it will not be available to buyers until later this fall. Apple hasn’t revealed the pricing for Arcade, but it did say that Arcade games will contain no ads or in-app purchases. The games will work online and offline, and they’ll be developed specifically for the service.

Google, meanwhile, launched its Stadia game streaming service that lets you play some of the hottest PC games on any device, as long as you own them, with Google’s servers handling the heavy workloads. Stadia isn’t quite the Arcade competitor you might have expected, but Google has an alternative for Arcade as well, called Play Pass. And Play Pass isn’t only about mobile gaming.

Smoke from fires in Africa fertilizes the Amazon over 6,500 miles away

It’s tempting to think that two locations separated by over 6,500 miles wouldn’t have much of an impact on one another, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Our planet is like a vast web, and continents can play a major role in the health of another, even when separated by an ocean.

That’s the message behind a new study by the Unversity of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, which reveals that fires which rage in Africa actually fertilize the Amazon rainforest in South America. The study, which was published Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, also suggests the Atlantic and Southern oceans benefit greatly from the smoke of African fires.

Persistent Frenchman will try again this weekend to cross the English Channel on a hoverboard

%name Persistent Frenchman will try again this weekend to cross the English Channel on a hoverboard by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

They call him “Le Rocketman,” an affectionate nod to the flying Frenchman Franky Zapata’s ambition to cross the English Channel via a jet-powered hoverboard — something he’s going to try a second time to pull off this weekend after crashing into the water before.

As we previously noted, Zapata crashed on his prior attempt to cross the channel just a few days ago after rocky waves disrupted his attempt to do a quick mid-flight refueling stop. His next attempt, per French media, is set for Sunday.

PlayStation Plus free games for August: ‘Sniper Elite 4′ and ‘WipEout’

While it doesn’t hold a candle to the killer selection of free games Xbox One owners are getting in August, the lineup of PlayStation Plus free games for next month is nothing to sneeze at. If you subscribe to PlayStation Plus, you’ll get both the triplet of futuristic racing games in the WipEout Omega Collection (which has a VR mode too) and Sniper Elite 4, which got solid reviews when it launched back in 2017.

Apple and Samsung phone sales are down, and $1,000+ prices are one reason why

%name Apple and Samsung phone sales are down, and $1,000+ prices are one reason why by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There was at least one common theme reflected in the earnings that handset arch-rivals Apple and Samsung both reported this week – declines in revenue attributable to both companies’ pricey smartphones.

Apple, for its part, no longer breaks out unit sales anymore but did disclose a decline in iPhone revenue Tuesday of 12% compared to the same quarter in 2018. The iPhone maker generated $25.99 billion in revenue from the smartphone during its most recent fiscal quarter, down from a little more than $29 billion in the year-ago period. At Samsung, the story was similar.

Russia just completed a particularly speedy resupply run to the International Space Station

%name Russia just completed a particularly speedy resupply run to the International Space Station by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It was just a few days ago that SpaceX shot one of its Dragon cargo ships into space, and it was packed with supplies for the crew of the International Space Station. Now, Russia has done the same with its Progress 73 cargo vessel, only this time it arrived much more rapidly.

The spacecraft, which was sent skyward atop a Russian Soyuz rocket, completed two orbits of Earth as it sped towards its destination and made its way from Earth to the space station in just over three hours, which is a breakneck pace.

The Netflix fantasy series that’s shaping up to fill the Game of Thrones-sized hole in all our hearts can’t get here fast enough. The first trailer for The Witcher was shown off during Comic-Con and sent expectations soaring even higher — and now it seems the show was so buzzy from the get-go that it apparently generated a mad scramble from actors desperate to land the starring role. The one that ultimately went to Henry Cavill, who will portray the white-haired heroic monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.

In a new interview, he explains how he beat out more than 200 actors for the part and that he basically bugged his agents and Netflix until they finally relented and he won the role.

Equifax doesn’t have enough money to pay 2017 hack victims the $125 they’re owed

%name Equifax doesn’t have enough money to pay 2017 hack victims the $125 they’re owed by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you haven’t applied yet to get your $125 share of the cash payment option as part of the settlement related to credit reporting agency Equifax’s 2017 data breach, the chance that you’ll actually be able to get that full amount is shrinking by the day. Because it turns out that demand for the $125 payment has been so “overwhelming” Equifax is actually running out of money to pay everyone who asks and who has a legitimate claim.
