• Dr. Anthony Fauci said in a new interview that there’s no scientific evidence to support the idea that the novel coronavirus was created by man.

The first coronavirus origin conspiracy theories appeared as soon as it became clear China was dealing with a new disease back in early January. Since then, it spread like wildfire with the help of social media. But, thankfully, the scientific community was quick to step in and make things clear. The novel coronavirus was not man-made, scientists said, after examining the genetic structure of the virus. Even so, a second coronavirus origin conspiracy theory appeared, that the virus may have escaped from the Wuhan lab, after someone may have become infected with a bat virus they were studying.

A few days ago, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirmed that COVID-19 isn’t the result of genetic engineering, agreeing with the scientific community. However, it added it’s still investigating the origin of the virus, including the theory that it could have escaped from a lab. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo then fumbled that response by saying there’s “enormous evidence” the virus came from the Chinese lab, without presenting any of the evidence.

Dr. Anthony Fauci has now cleared the matter for good, explaining there’s no evidence to suggest the virus was developed by humans and explained why the theory that says the virus could have escaped accidentally doesn’t make sense.

Apple and Google have developed a standard API that authorities can use to create coronavirus contact tracing apps for specific countries or communities. These apps rely on a phone’s Bluetooth connectivity to ping nearby devices and create local records of that handshake. When one of those users reports they have been diagnosed COVID-19 positive, a database will record that event. The phones enrolled in the tracing program will check that database with some regularity, and that’s how they’ll discover a record that one of their contacts tested positive in the past 14 days. That’s when the user of the phone is notified that he or she may have been exposed to a coronavirus patient at some point in the past couple of weeks. Everything happens anonymously, with randomized ID numbers being assigned to phones and end-to-end encryption protecting data transmission. No user data is collected in the process, and users can opt out of the contact tracing app if they so desire. The whole concept is a lot easier to explain with images, and Apple and Google have both released concept screenshots of how these apps may look like.

The interesting thing about the technology space is that there’s often no telling what the next big thing is going to be. The coronavirus pandemic, for example, catapulted Zoom to an astounding level of popularity that would have been unheard of just a few short months ago. Several governments around the world are currently looking at strategies that will allow them to slowly open their economies, but life won’t return to normal anytime soon. The novel coronavirus is still a major threat and outbreaks are still possible. We don’t have medicine that can reduce the mortality risk significantly, we’re far from herd immunities, and vaccines probably won’t even be ready for emergency use until late 2020.

That means we’ll have to practice social distancing in the coming months and years until the risk of contracting the COVID-19 disease is significantly diminished. While we wait for the economy to open up, including the entertainment business, we have more exciting rumors for a particular category of moviegoers.

Marvel fans will be happy to hear that not only is Ryan Reynolds almost ready to speak publicly about Deadpool 3, but an insider says that Deadpool might become a recurring fixture of the MCU in the future.

As sick as we all are of being cooped up inside due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, streaming has been a vital lifeline keeping us relatively sane. Both are way more entertaining than I would have expected, and if not for being in quarantine, I know I wouldn’t have watched either of them. • Fast radio bursts (or FRBs for short) are mysterious blasts of energy scientists have detected from deep space.
• For the first time ever, an FRB was detected coming from within our own home galaxy, the Milky Way, offering scientists an opportunity to explain how they originate.

Of all the unknowns in science, one of the biggest mysteries is the origin of what are called fast radio bursts, or FRBs. FRBs are powerful blasts of radio energy that typically seem to come out of nowhere. Scientists can detect them as they reach Earth, but tracing their origins has proven to be an incredibly difficult puzzle to solve.

Many FRBs appear once and then disappear forever. Rarely, an FRB will repeat, beaming a signal from deep in space but appearing to originate from the same point, relative to Earth. Now, for the first time ever, an FRB was detected that appears to have originated from within our own home galaxy, the Milky Way.

It’s unclear why anyone would want to run Windows 10X, the reinvented Windows 10 experience that was imagined for devices featuring two displays, on a standard laptop. Microsoft unveiled Windows 10X last fall when it demoed its own dual-screen laptop, the Surface Neo that was supposed to launch this fall. Then we heard reports that Windows 10X would be available on Windows 10 notebooks, which Microsoft confirmed on Monday.

When will Surface Neo and all of the other dual-screen Windows 10X devices launch? That’s a question Microsoft will answer another time.

SpaceX may be the undisputed leader in commercial spaceflight but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be the most capable when it comes to landing on the Moon, a new NASA evaluation reveals. Last week, NASA announced the trio of companies it is partnering with in order to help send astronauts to the Moon for the first time in decades. Those companies were SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Dynetics.

However, as Space News reports, NASA doesn’t see SpaceX in the same light as its two peers. SpaceX has long been a partner of NASA, but in terms of the company’s role in the upcoming Artemis moon missions, the space agency is seemingly skeptical.
