  • Sony hasn’t said much about its plans for backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 5.
  • We know that “most” of the 100 most-played PS4 games will be playable on the PS5 at launch, but we still don’t know if we will be able to play PS3, PS2, or PS1 games.
  • A game developer explained some of the hurdles Sony would face if it did attempt to make games from every classic PlayStation console playable on the PS5.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Sony has yet to show us the PlayStation 5, but the deep dive into the console’s system architecture in March helped to fill in some of the blanks. The specifications of the hardware were finally revealed, and many of the console’s most significant features were detailed as well. But while the presentation answered many of our questions about the PS5, it also complicated some matters further. For example: What’s the deal with backwards compatibility?

The PlayStation 5 GPU is backwards compatible with the PlayStation 4. Lead system architect Mark Cerny confirmed this during the deep dive. He also revealed that “almost all” of the 100 most-played PS4 games will be playable on the PS5 at launch. Sony then posted an update on the PlayStation Blog explaining that “the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5.” That’s good news, but what about other consoles?

Apparently, Marvel didn’t want Iron Man in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

  • It’s Sony that decided to have Iron Man in the first Spider-Man movie that was included in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, says a YouTube channel.
  • The company reportedly wanted a star-studded film to bring back the lost glory of Spider-Man in the aftermath of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
  • While there’s no concrete evidence to support any of it, there’s no question that the Iron Man-Peter Parker relationship proved to be a crucial move for both Sony and Marvel.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus pandemic changed life as we know it, including our ability to go to the theater. Not only are we unable to see any of the big releases planned for this part of the year, but studios stopped production on movies and TV shows as well. It will be a while before we go back to theaters, and until studios resume work on their projects, and we’ll also have to wait weeks or months until we start getting more details about upcoming attractions, like the 14 films and TV series that are part of Marvel’s MCU Phase 4.

But every now and again, exciting rumors pop up, and the latest concerns the new Spider-Man franchise that Sony developed on the back of Marvel’s MCU. The latest report says that it was Sony that insisted that Iron Man get a huge presence in the Spider-Man: Homecoming, as the studio wanted to restart the Spider-Man universe with a huge bang.

Coronavirus pandemic could last for two years without a vaccine

  • A new research report claims that the coronavirus pandemic may not die down for two years if a vaccine isn’t developed.
  • One of the challenges involved with keeping the coronavirus at bay is that it’s very efficient at spreading silently.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A new report from the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota has some discouraging news in regards to our efforts to keep the coronavirus at bay. While many people assumed, perhaps too optimistically, that the coronavirus would be nothing more than a distant memory by the time fall rolled around, the report relays that the current coronavirus pandemic may last for upwards of two years.

The report, which was released on Thursday, notes that the global population at large essentially has no pre-existing immunity to the coronavirus. This, compounded by the fact that the virus can easily be spread by asymptomatic individuals, will make it incredibly challenging to keep the virus from spreading.

Insider says big PS5 news might be just weeks away

  • The PlayStation 5 design reveal is one of the most anticipated events in the gaming world, but it’s unclear when Sony will unveil the new console.
  • An insider with connections in the industry said on Twitter that Sony should follow Microsoft’s Xbox games event with some news of its own in a few weeks.
  • It’s unclear whether he meant a PS5 reveal is imminent, or whether we’ll soon see more PS5 games get announced.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Microsoft has been winning the new console marketing war against Sony so far this year. The company took its time to reveal the name of the new Xbox, but it’s been ahead of Sony ever since. We learned what Project Scarlett would be called in mid-December, which is also when Microsoft showed the Xbox Series X to the world. Months later, Microsoft shared the specs of the 2020 Xbox with the world before Sony did, and the company just announced an Xbox Series X games event for next week.

All Sony did was reveal the PS5 specs during a boring video stream, and then show off the novel DualSense controller. But PS5 news might be coming in the next few weeks, according to an informed insider. It’s unclear, however, whether we’re going to get at an actual PS5 design reveal or just game announcements.

Bill Gates: Coronavirus vaccine might become part of routine newborn immunization

%name Bill Gates: Coronavirus vaccine might become part of routine newborn immunization by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Bill Gates explained in a new blog post that eight to 10 vaccine candidates out of the more than 115 proposed drugs show promise.
  • He said that once the “perfect” vaccine has been developed, a drug that would have high efficacy at preventing the COVID-19 disease, it might become part of the routine newborn immunization schedule.
  • Gates also explained that the real challenge is making at least seven billion doses and then deploying them as quickly as possible.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Bill Gates is one of the personalities that stands out during the novel coronavirus pandemic. First of all, the Microsoft co-founder warned the world this sort of thing could happen five years ago, in a TED Talk that went viral once the dangers of COVID-19 became clear. Second, Gates has been working with authorities on the pandemic, as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has some experience in dealing with infectious diseases.

Unsurprisingly, the Gates Foundation has been funding some COVID-19 efforts, with the former Microsoft exec saying he’s willing to risk billions on developing vaccines and logistics to potentially save trillions of dollars. In a new blog post on the matter of COVID-19 vaccines, Gates explained the current progress, saying that he believes there are eight to ten promising candidates. Once the perfect vaccine is out, Gates said, it might become part of the “routine newborn immunization schedule.”

  • Apple’s recently released iPhone SE boasts the A13 Bionic, the fastest processor the company has ever released.
  • Apple CEO Tim Cook believes the iPhone SE, on account of its power and $399 price point, will help lure over Android users.
  • Even Android enthusiasts have praised the iPhone SE for offering up tremendous performance at an affordable price.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

If you’re looking for value in a smartphone, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal than Apple’s recently released iPhone SE. Priced at $399, Apple’s next-gen SE boasts an A13 processor and, as a result, the device can outperform any number of pricier Android flagships. And as we covered earlier this week, even Android enthusiasts have taken note of the value proposition the iPhone SE brings to the table.

When the original iPhone SE was released in 2016, the device proved to be far more popular than even Apple executives anticipated. And just yesterday, during Apple’s earnings conference call, Tim Cook said that Apple has already seen a “strong customer response to the iPhone SE.”

Terrifying video shows how easy it is to get coronavirus while flying

%name Terrifying video shows how easy it is to get coronavirus while flying by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Airlines might be looking to reassure passengers that flying during the coronavirus pandemic will be safe, but there are no guarantees right now.
  • We know that a SARS patient infected 22 people on a plane during a three-hour flight from Hong Kong to Beijing during the 2003 pandemic.
  • Research that followed shows that coughing inside the cabin might expose other people to a pathogen even if social distancing measures are in place on flights.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

I showed you a scary study from China a few days ago that told us it will be a while until we can trust restaurants again. The economy will open slowly and you’re probably dying to eat out, but that study suggested social distancing measures in a restaurant might not be good enough to stop the potential spread of the coronavirus. It’s not the food that’s the problem, it’s the ventilation system in closed quarters that may promote transmission. Researchers found that a single person with COVID-19 was responsible for infecting two other families eating in the same restaurant, after being exposed to each other for about an hour. The air-conditioning unit may have spread the virus to other tables, that research said.

I’m now about to show you a clip of what happens when someone coughs inside the cabin of an airplane, and the conclusion might be even worse. It will be a while before we’re at ease flying. Unlike restaurants, planes have more advanced air filtering systems that might prevent infection. However, it seems clear that won’t be enough to reduce exposure to the virus.

Xbox Series X games could be delayed

  • Xbox boss Phil Spencer said in an interview this week that although the Xbox Series X is still on schedule to launch this holiday season, games might be delayed due to the coronavirus.
  • Spencer says that the security and safety of the teams making games for the Xbox Series X is the priority, and he won’t push them unnecessarily just to hit a deadline.
  • Several major 2020 video games have already been delayed, including Minecraft Dungeons, The Last of Us 2, and Ghost of Tsushima.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

As exciting as the steady rollout of details about a new video game console is, the reason we buy these machines is to play games on them. Microsoft revealed the design of the Xbox Series X, as well as the specifications and features it will ship with, but we haven’t actually seen any new games running on the console yet. That’s going to change next week when Microsoft shows off next-gen gameplay for the first time in a new episode of Inside Xbox.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that we might be waiting even longer than we expected to get our hands on many of those games. Speaking with CNBC’s Squawk Alley on Thursday, Microsoft executive VP of gaming and Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic won’t affect the release date of the Xbox Series X, but it might impact the games set to hit the console in the months to come.

Doctors finally understand one of the scary ways coronavirus kills

%name Doctors finally understand one of the scary ways coronavirus kills by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Researchers have figured out why the novel coronavirus can lead to strokes and heart attacks.
  • Doctors from Ireland observed that severe COVID-19 patients are more likely to develop tiny blood clots in the pulmonary region.
  • These blood clots can then travel to the brain or heart where they’d be responsible for strokes or heart attacks. They’re also responsible for reducing oxygenation in the lungs, the study says
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus’s attack on the human body is so complex that it can lead to a slew of unexpected symptoms and complications that can be deadly. Neurologists observed a few weeks ago that some of their patients who were displaying symptoms consistent with a neurological disease, including confusion and seizures, were infected with SARS-CoV-2. A few days ago, we found out that one of the strangest COVID-19 symptoms is also one of the deadliest. Doctors from the Mount Sinai Health system noticed an increase in young patients with stroke symptoms. All of them tested COVID-19 positive, raising the possibility that the virus is responsible for creating blood clots that can reach the brain and then block local arteries. It turns out the disease can indeed lead to increased blood coagulation, and that tiny blood clots can develop right in the lungs. Now, researchers have finally figured out how it all happens.
