Canadians drive a lot. Collectively, we average between 15,000 to 20,000 kilometres on our cars each year, according to Transport Canada. Because of this, a vehicle’s ability to travel long distances without major problems or costly repair is a huge aspect to take into consideration when it comes time to purchase a new or used car.

iSeeCars.com recently released its findings for the most reliable cars known to last past 300,000 kilometres or more. The study was based on a sample of used vehicles listed online ranging from 1981-2010 that have more than 300,000 kilometres on the odometer, thus seeing which models are really going the distance for their owners. The findings, which listed the top 12 vehicle models with the highest percentage of 300,000-kilometre travelers, are quite interesting. Only one car made the list, the ever-popular Honda Accord. All the rest are either trucks or SUVs.

Click here to see the top vehicles known for rolling past the 300,000 kilometre mark and still going strong. It’s important to note that while these are the vehicles that have stood the test of time up until today, we can’t guarantee future results if you decide to opt for one of these from a current new car model year.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Gets 10.7L/100km

21 2015 dodge challenger srt hellcat fd 1 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Gets 10.7L/100km by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Filed under:

With its crazy 707 horsepower on tap and roughly $63,995 starting price, the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has been one of the most talked about cars of the summer, maybe even the year. However, there’s always been one lingering question about the behemoth that Dodge has waited to answer until now – its fuel economy. The fuel ratings for the muscle car are finally out, and the numbers are actually pretty impressive for a vehicle with this much power.

A 2015 Challenger Hellcat with the eight-speed automatic is rated at 10.7L/100km (22 miles per gallon) highway, 18.1L/100km (13 mpg) city and 14.7L/100km (16 mpg) combined. Opting for the six-speed manual drops those figures to 11.2L/100km (21 mpg) highway, 18.1L/100km (13 mpg) city and 14.7L/100km (16 mpg) combined.

“As the fastest muscle car ever, the Challenger Hellcat can run 10-second ETs [elapsed times] at the track, and then get 10.7L/100 km (22 miles per gallon) on the drive home. With a starting price of $63,995, there’s nothing else that even comes close,” said Dodge and SRT President Tim Kuniskis in the company’s release.

When comparing the Hellcat to other cars in its power class, its fuel economy numbers could almost be called frugal. Take a Lamborghini Aventador coupe for example. With 700 hp, the Lambo is rated at 13.1L/100km (18 mpg) highway and 21.4L/100km (11 mpg) city, but it costs significantly more than the Challenger. Even the Dodge Viper, the muscle car’s sibling rival, is slightly lower at 11.2L100km (21 mpg) highway and 19.6L/100km (12 mpg) city, while making less power and torque. Scroll down to read Dodge’s full fuel economy announcement about the supercharged V8.

In Which Molsheim Courts Us Like We Are Captains Of Industry

Let’s say you’re rich. Filthy rich – you’ve got cars in garages of homes you can’t remember you own, rich.

As the gap between automotive haves and have-nots continues to grow, ultraluxury automakers are exploiting fresh ways to lure the sorts of well-heeled car aficionados who would rather spend their spare time shipping exotic sleds to private tracks than sitting on a beach in the Maldives.

This rarified air presents a daunting challenge to boutique carmakers attempting to distinguish themselves, especially when they’re vying for attention amidst voluptuous Paganis, Koenigseggs, and Brabus G63 AMG 6x6s. When the stakes are this high and the competition this fierce, you need a novel approach to peddle your four-wheeled wares – even if you’re Bugatti.

Kelley Blue Book recently listed the top 10 most affordable cars, based on five year cost-to-own projections. While many of these do have low sticker prices and are among the cheapest new cars in Canada, they are also most affordable because they have great resale values, fuel economy and often cost a lot less to insure.

American Refining Group Celebrates 20 Years Being ISO Certified

ARG American Refining Group Celebrates 20 Years Being ISO Certified by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

SAI Global, an ANAB accredited organization, recently completed the audit that marks the 20th year of certification for American Refining Group, a Bradford, PA based oil refinery. In 1994, the Bradford Refinery became the first refinery in the USA to carry the esteemed ISO 9002 certification and has continued to meet the strict requirements for the past 20 years. Most recently the company met the criteria needed to utilize the ISO 9001:2008 seal.

“It is cause for celebration,” stated Jennifer Taylor, Marketing Communications Manager for American Refining Group. “The fact that our refinery continues to meet the criteria for maintaining the ISO Certification speaks to the dedication of our employees and Leadership Team in providing consistent quality products and services to our customers.”

ISO 9000 (International Organization for Standardization) was first published in 1987, and has become a mandatory requirement for many purchasers. Over a million organizations throughout the globe have been certified, making ISO 9001 arguably the most widely used tool for Quality Management System certification in the world. Carrying the ISO certification gives customers an added guarantee that certain standards are being met, assuring that they are receiving quality consistent goods with each purchase.

“We modestly applaud the 20 years of ISO registration as confirmation that we have the necessary systems in place to safely continue our journey of constantly improving our products and processes,” stated Ray Reask, Quality Director for American Refining Group, Inc.

Ford F-Series Super Duty prototype reduced to smouldering mess of aluminum and steel [UPDATE]

SuperDutyFire cdauto 74114 18 Ford F Series Super Duty prototype reduced to smouldering mess of aluminum and steel [UPDATE] by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Filed under:

The most important bit of information you need to know after looking through our high-res gallery of images depicting a prototype 2016 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup truck burning to the ground is that nobody was hurt. There were two engineers inside the vehicle when it caught fire, and both exited to safety.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that the truck, which appears to have been testing in Death Valley, appears to be a total loss, minus, of course, whatever information Ford can glean from the conflagration – particularly tracing it back to its root cause. Besides that, we’re also expecting the body of the next Super Duty to be hewn from aluminum, as is the case with its smaller brother, the brand-new F-150. Note the little aluminum droppings littering the roadway as apparent proof of that.

Our spy photographers report that it took just 21 minutes for the F-Series Super Duty to burn completely to the ground. The fire appears to have started in the driver-side front wheel well, spreading to engulf the entire front end in three minutes. We can’t confirm the source of the blaze, but we’re curious if the car’s black vinyl cladding, meant to obscure the secrets within, contributed to the fire.

Check out the complete gallery of images to see how a fully working prototype can be reduced to a smoldering mess of aluminum and steel in just 21 minutes flat. We’ll let you know if Ford can shed any light on the cause of the fire as soon as we hear back.

UPDATE: Ford has issued the following statement: “While testing an experimental vehicle in Death Valley, there was a fire. We are investigating.” That much is clear, and we’ll keep you informed of any new information we get.
