Every Xbox One and Xbox 360 game you can download for free in December

%name Every Xbox One and Xbox 360 game you can download for free in December by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Although we’re currently far more concerned with the awesome deals Microsoft is offering on Xbox One and Xbox 360 games over on the Xbox Store, it’s never too early to start getting excited about a new month of freebies. For those of you with active Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, your monthly slate of free games has been announced.

Unfortunately, December’s selection is rather uninspired, though all of these games will keep you occupied next month once you run out of spending money on Black Friday deals. Vermintide is definitely the highlight of the month — a four-player co-op FPS that takes place in the world of Warhammer. Back to the Future: The Game is a solid Telltale adventure game, and Child of Eden is a psychedelic prequel to all-time classic Rez.

Facebook is copying even more Snapchat features

%name Facebook is copying even more Snapchat features by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A few years back, a number of misguided analysts were so taken with Snapchat that they boldly declared that Facebook was in trouble and that the company’s best days were behind it. Interestingly enough, the success of Snapchat, if anything, served as a strong motivator for Facebook. Indeed, Facebook over the past few years hasn’t exactly been shy about liberally borrowing some of Snapchat’s more distinguishing features and incorporating them into Facebook and Instagram.

These days, Facebook is as strong as ever and boasts 2.07 billion monthly active users. Translation: 1 out of every 4 people on the entire planet uses Facebook at least once a month. And showing no signs of slowing down, Facebook is still taking many of Snapchat’s more interesting ideas and adding them to its own properties.

According to a report from a London newspaper, Apple’s offices in South Korea have been raided by regulators, just ahead of the launch of the iPhone X in the country.

Switching to LED lighting to save energy has created a new problem for the environment

%name Switching to LED lighting to save energy has created a new problem for the environment by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

LED lighting has been hailed as the next logical step forward for our lightning needs, given that it typically consumes less energy and the bulbs themselves last an incredibly long time. More efficient lighting means good things for the environment, and less waste (from old discarded bulbs) is a big bonus, but now that many modern cities are transitioning away from antiquated lighting technologies it’s become clear to scientists that we may have made a big mistake. Mankind really can’t catch a break, huh?

In a new study published in the journal Scientific Advances, researchers set about determining how bad light pollution has become on a global scale. Their findings reveal bad news, and worse news. The bad news is that the world is getting brighter and brighter at night, and the worse news is that the fancy new LED lighting is probably to blame.

One US carrier is giving away free iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8 handsets for Black Friday

%name One US carrier is giving away free iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8 handsets for Black Friday by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The big four carriers have released their Black Friday promotions already, and with the exception of T-Mobile’s iPhone buy-one-get-one-free, we find ourselves deeply underwhelmed. But US Cellular might’ve just saved the Black Friday smartphone deals section, thanks to a killer offer on the iPhone 8 and Galaxy S8.

From now until Cyber Monday, US Cellular is offering a free iPhone 8, Galaxy S8, Moto Z2 Force, or LG G6 in return for a trade-in. There are a few terms and conditions attached — you need to be on the company’s unlimited data plan, and the deal ties you into two years of service as a US Cellular customer — but whichever way you cut it, this is one of the best iPhone deals we’ve seen this Black Friday.

OnePlus’s Face Unlock is faster than Apple’s Face ID, but that doesn’t mean it’s better

%name OnePlus’s Face Unlock is faster than Apple’s Face ID, but that doesn’t mean it’s better by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

OnePlus a few days ago announced its second handset of the year, the OnePlus 5T that’s already the best-sold handset in the company’s short history. The phone generally has the same specs as the OnePlus 5 but features a new design and a few nifty tricks. Speed is one of them, as the OnePlus 5T proved to be faster than the iPhone X in performance tests, while its Face Unlock facial recognition feature is faster than the iPhone X’s Face ID.

However, that doesn’t mean Face Unlock is as secure as Face ID. The technology doesn’t use a 3D sensor to scan the user’s face, and OnePlus doesn’t let you authorize payments via Apple Pay and can’t be used to unlock certain apps, like mobile banking.

Nintendo slashes prices on Switch, 3DS and Wii U games for Black Friday

%name Nintendo slashes prices on Switch, 3DS and Wii U games for Black Friday by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’re a fan of Nintendo, you probably know that the company is notoriously stingy when it comes to cutting prices on its games. As such, you’ll be hard pressed to find Black Friday deals on Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 or any of the best Nintendo games of 2017, but Nintendo is extending a discount olive branch of sorts with a sizable selection of eShop “Cyber Deals” on Switch, 3DS and Wii U games.

Again, you won’t find the most talked about Nintendo games that released this year on the list, but there are plenty of gems on here, especially when it comes to 3DS games. Best of all, the sale will run until December 11th at 8:59 AM PT, so you have plenty of time to decide which of the games you want to pick up.
