Ron Wayne isn’t nearly as famous as Steve Jobs or Steve Wozniak but he’s nonetheless one of Apple’s three cofounders who helped the company get off the ground in the 1970s. For his work, Wayne was given a 10% stake in the company… which he sold soon after for just $800.

Microsoft has had a checkered past when it comes to supporting one of its most valuable communities. PC gamers are part of the reason that Microsoft is still doing as well as it is in the desktop market, but the most the company has had to offer in recent years came in the form of the abysmal Games for Windows Live platform, which did far more harm than good.

The iPhone and or Android handsets might become even more important personal devices in the future, The Wall Street Journal reports, as users may soon store their driver’s licenses in a special app on their phones. Iowa is already looking into building the nation’s first smartphone driver’s license, which is a mobile app that will “co-exist with the traditional plastic card.”

Apple is the only smartphone maker in the world that deals with carriers on its own terms. The company is in firm control of the operating system running on its iPhones, which is always bloatware-free and which gets updated directly from Apple. In fact, carriers don’t even get to stick their logos on the handset. In spite of that, mobile operators simply can’t afford not to have the iPhone in stores, as T-Mobile’s John Legere has recently revealed, which means they’re ready to agree to Apple’s draconian terms.
But Reuters reports that the Canadian Competition Bureau is now looking into Apple’s deals with local carriers.
