Microsoft on Tuesday gave the world a heartfelt apology for Windows 8 by unveiling Windows 10, which backs away from the “modern” interface users almost universally hated and moves toward an experience more akin to Windows 7. The new cross-device platform won’t ship until sometime next year so there’s still plenty we don’t know about it, and that includes details concerning exactly how it will work on Windows Phone devices and on Microsoft’s Xbox consoles.

While desktops, laptops and tablets were the focus of Microsoft’s presentation, the company did slip in a sneak peek of its new software running on other devices.

BlackBerry unveiled its new Passport flagship smartphone last week and media reaction so far has been decidedly mixed. In particular, many reviewers took issue with the Passport’s more square design and its boxy frame that they said made the device difficult to hold. BerryFlow’s Jubei Raziel isn’t hearing any of it, however, and he’s written a long tirade that rips into both the media and the average consumer for not being smart enough to comprehend the BlackBerry Passport’s true greatness.

Sony announced the lineup for its October Instant Game Collection on Wednesday, and as usual, PlayStation fans aren’t going to be disappointed. This month features the standard two games per platform, but the PlayStation team has something extra in store for PS4 owners: DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition. What was originally meant to be a launch title for the console was delayed for almost an entire year, but anyone with a PS Plus subscription will be able to download it starting next Tuesday.

Apple’s newest iPhones aren’t the only hugely anticipated devices that feature the number “6” to launch this fall. Google is not yet ready to reveal anything about the Android L’s official launch – unlike last year, the company didn’t even announce the official name of its next major Android release ahead of its rollout – but the company is still working on improving the Android L experience. Android Police reports that as many as 18 bugs have been marked as “fixed” in Google’s Android Issue Tracker, with Phone Arena having discovered smaller design tweaks meant to further polish the visual experience in Android L.

Surprised by the impressive iPhone 6 launch sales during Apple’s launch weekend, Samsung has pushed forward the Galaxy Note 4 launch, although it has only managed to release it in certain markets so far, including South Korea and China. Most markets will receive the Galaxy Note 4 later this month, and Samsung has quietly published a simple infographic on one of its Facebook pages that shows Galaxy Note 4 release dates for several markets.

Less than 24 hours after Microsoft finally introduced its inexplicably named Windows 10 operating system to the world, the very first Technical Preview is now available to download. Wearable devices comprise the next exciting frontier for consumer electronics. Or so we’ve been told. The sad truth is that wearables have been around for years already and we have yet to see anything truly exciting hit the market. Tech giants like Sony, Samsung and soon Apple are aggressively moving into wearables now that growth in the smartphone and tablet markets is slowing, but the pitch for these new devices — you won’t have to take your phone out of your pocket as often — isn’t exactly resonating with the general public quite yet.

But I have seen the future of wearable technology and it’s much more exciting than you might think.
