Apple on Tuesday released OS X Yosemite Golden Master Candidate 1.0 to developers, which could turn out to be the final Yosemite built that will be released to regular Mac users in October. However, MacRumors points out that last year Apple released a second GM version of Mavericks before rolling it out to all Mac owners. Interestingly, Apple released Yosemite GM Candidate 1.0 just as Microsoft unveiled its highly anticipated 2015 Windows update, the strangely named Windows 10, which will be available to users in preview version in the coming days.

It’s safe to say that Microsoft’s attempt to integrate more touch-centric features in with its traditional desktop operating system didn’t go as well as Microsoft had hoped. Windows 8 proved to be a hugely polarizing operating system as many longtime Windows users decried the loss of the Start Menu and the jarring split between the platform’s Desktop mode and its Modern/Metro screen.

As if “Bendgate” wasn’t bad enough PR during the rollout of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, or the fact that the iOS 8.0.1 update turned iPhones into bricks, some people thought it would be fun to post pictures of their bent iPhones on Instagram. This seems to be adding to the notion that the new iPhones will bend easily just by putting the phone in your pocket and sitting down too fast, even though Consumer Reports basically debunked that as being “overblown.”

Windows is still by far the most widely used desktop OS in the world but things are decidedly trending downward. The most recent numbers from NPD showed that while “U.S. consumer retail PC sales grew almost 3% during the 10 week Back-to-School period (week of July 4th through Labor Day week),” Windows device sales actually fell by 3% over the same period. Instead, NDP found that all growth in PC sales came from Macs and Chromebooks. Microsoft’s struggles in the mobile market are even worse — while iOS and Android dominate the smartphone market, Microsoft’s own Windows Phone has been a bust so far and has actually seen both its market share and total shipments decline over the last year.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a recent interview that the company is working on products that haven’t been covered in rumors yet, and a patent recently awarded to the company serves as a great reminder. Called Interactive holographic display device, the patent describes ways to show interactive holograms using an advanced touchscreen display on certain devices, a technology that could someday be included in future iPhone, iPad or Mac products.

When Apple first unveiled the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus earlier this month, people knew right away that they were two of the most beautiful smartphones the world had ever seen. Apple is reportedly working on three major iOS 8.x updates, including iOS 8.1, iOS 8.2 and iOS 8.3, with the first beta of iOS 8.1 having already been released to developers. In it, developer Hamza Sood found proof that Apple’s upcoming new iPad will include a Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in the Home button, and that owners will be able to use it to authenticate Apple Pay payments.
