In the wake of iOS 8, the operating system that will power the soon-to-be-shipped iPhone 6, coverage of Android L has slowed to a crawl. Android L debuted over the summer to an overwhelmingly positive response, but as Google has been very deliberate about actually bringing the new OS to Android phones, many Android users have simply moved on with their lives. Thankfully, they might not have to wait much longer.

Apple is calling iOS 8 the biggest update to its mobile operating system since the addition of the App Store. That’s a bold claim, but as the adoption rate slowly climbs in anticipation of the iPhone 6 launch, users are finding plenty of new features to back it up. Widgets, extensions and Continuity have received a majority of the attention from early adopters, but Fast Company has brought our attention to another hidden add-on that could help address important privacy concerns.

Aside from a couple of distinct ad campaigns taking hits at Apple after the iPhone 6 launch – including a horrible one followed by a more successful bashing approach – Samsung didn’t really try to ruin Apple’s iPhone 6 launch, although it could have at least given it a shot.

For some iPhone and iPad users, jumping aboard iOS 8 is not an easy decision — not because they’re worried about whether their older iOS device can deliver a great experience with the new software, but because they’re currently enjoying an iOS 7.1.2 jailbroken device. As is always the case with fresh iOS releases, jailbreak users are advised against installing the new update (in this case iOS 8) on devices that can’t be restored to an older, jailbreak-able, iOS release. But jailbreak hackers are apparently already at work on the first iOS 8 jailbreak, iJailbreak reports.

Here we go… as is tradition, we always manage to get our hands on Apple’s new iPhones a wee bit early. This year brings two different models, and judging by what has been reported and written, the iPhone 6 is the evolution of the iPhone line, while the iPhone 6 Plus can almost be considering a new type of product for Apple — one that might even be able to replace the iPad mini.

Free at last, iPhone users, your keyboards are free at last. Just a day after the release of iOS 8, which for the first time allowed support for third-party keyboards on iOS, it looks like iPhone users have been installing popular keyboard apps such as Swype and SwiftKey in droves.

Apple has rolled out a ton of great new features with iOS 8 but one that has flown a bit under the radar so far is Family Sharing, a new feature that will let you share your app purchases with up to six different family members’ accounts. Now, however, AppleInsider has put together a terrific how-to guide for getting Family Sharing up and running on your iOS devices so you can share the movies, music and apps you’ve purchased with everyone in your family.

During this year’s WWDC, Apple made several announcements related to iOS, OS X and the App Store that targeted both regular device users and app developers. One of the new Apple Store features introduced at the event was something called app bundles that promises developers they’ll be able to bundle together multiple apps and sell these special packages to iOS users when iOS 8 arrives. The bundles will offer users cheaper access to apps: Each bundle will be more expensive than the combined individual prices of the apps in it, but cheaper for the user than buying each included app separately. Now, these app bundles are finally live in the App Store.
