Apple on Tuesday unveiled two new iPhone models and two brand new Apple products, including Apple Pay and Apple Watch, generating a huge reaction on every major social network on the planet. Zeroing in on one in particular, Twitter recently shared some very interesting data from its @TwitterData account. Apple’s media event on Tuesday was everything Apple fans had hoped it would be: there were bigger phones, a promising new service and even a smartwatch — but one key component was missing. The reaction to the Apple Watch seems to be split right down the middle. Over 9500 BGR visitors voted in the poll we hosted on our website regarding the watch’s design — the results show a roughly a 50-50 split over whether they like the watch’s design or not. The fashion world was similarly indecisive, with some designers claiming that the Apple Watch was destined for collaboration with expensive brands while others decided it was too masculine.

Apple unveiled its “magical” new mobile product line during the iPhone 6 keynote, but the company left many questions unanswered about its “one more thing.” For instance, Apple did not say whether the Apple Watch will be waterproof or water-resistant, although it did show a version of the device splashed with water in one video, implying that there is at least some degree of water resistance. In a private Apple Watch briefing, David Pogue has learned that the device will be water-resistant, but that doesn’t mean you can take showers with it.

It was hardly the biggest of the many announcements Apple made during Tuesday’s press conference, but the company confirmed that it will finally release iOS 8 to the public on Wednesday, September 17th next week. iOS 8 represents a huge upgrade for Apple’s mobile platform, adding tons of new functionality and tweaking hundreds of features that already existed in iOS 7.1.

The iPhone 6 and its 5.5-inch counterpart won’t start shipping until September 19th, but the first shipments have reportedly already reached U.S. shores. According to China’s Civil Aviation Network, an initial iPhone 6 and 6 Plus shipment weighing in at 14.5 tons departed from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International on September 6th in order to arrive in time for Apple’s keynote address. A second, larger batch of 78.5 tons shipped on September 10th.

One thing that Apple has always done exceptionally well is to make clean, intuitive user interfaces that don’t overload you with too many unnecessary distractions. That’s why it’s somewhat surprising to see, at least at first glance, that Apple’s Watch UI looks much busier and cluttered compared with the more minimal approach taken by Google with Android Wear.
