In a new piece on tech and fashion, The New York Times also looked at Apple since it’s one of the companies that’s expected to launch a fashionable smart wearable device soon. The piece is notable because it revealed that Apple’s design chief Jonathan Ive thinks very highly of the soon-to-be-unveiled smartwatch and he sees it as a danger for those gorgeous but dumb watches coming out of Switzerland.

We still have no idea what Apple’s mysterious iWatch will look like but now we might know what some of its final specifications will be. Per 9to5Mac, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims Apple will launch two different versions of the iWatch — one with a 1.3-inch display and another with a 1.5-inch display. Both devices will apparently come packed with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which are both very impressive specifications for a device that will be so tiny — indeed, Samsung’s most recent Gear S smartwatch similarly packs 512MB of RAM but also comes with just 4GB of internal storage.

Apple’s recent $3 billion acquisition of Beats shocked the tech world for a number of reasons. For one, it marks the first time Apple will take on and manage a non-Apple brand. For another, Beats’ core strategy — sell mid-quality, high-cost headphones by marketing them to young consumers as “cool” — doesn’t seem to align with Apple’s product strategies. But the deal is done, and now we sit back and wait to see what new products Beats comes up with under Apple’s wing.

One man isn’t content to sit around and wait, however. Beats cofounder Steven Lamar has broken away from his former company and on Thursday, he announced innovative new headphones called Ropes that aim to rocket wearable audio accessories into the future.

When you’re using a display that’s only around 5 inches, do you really need it to have a 2K resolution when a 1080p resolution will do just fine? Sony certainly doesn’t think so and in an interview with TrustedReviews, Sony director of Xperia marketing Calum MacDougall gives a very smart explanation for why it’s not chasing other smartphones when it comes to bumping up display resolutions: It’s just not worth it if it means sacrificing battery life.

Just because a phone is midrange, that doesn’t mean it should be devoid of at least some high-end specifications. In the case of the new HTC Desire 820 that HTC unveiled on Thursday, that high-end specification just happens to be its 8-megapixel front-facing camera, which gives it the best “selfie camera” of any other phone on the market. For comparison’s sake, consider that even Samsung’s beastly Galaxy Note 4 can only boast a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera.
