There was a time when Googling for “how to erase background in Photoshop” meant something. Budding graphical wizards understood that software existed to accomplish fantastical things such as removing a background and coloring it with something else, but the process was complicated. Pretty much everyone who has ever written anything about technology has, at one point or another, been called an “iSheep” who is “so bias (sic) in favor of Apple!” But while accusations of “pro-Apple bias” occur so often that they’re practically meaningless, that doesn’t mean Apple doesn’t have a brilliant strategy for monitoring and manipulating media coverage about the company that is lightyears beyond what Amazon, Microsoft or even Google do.

Following a variety of fresh 4.7-inch iPhone 6 components leaks showing its processor, front glass cover and rear metal case, a new picture of the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 has popped up from Nowhereelse.fr. The picture comes from a trusted source from China and features the purported rear metal case of the handset, and appears to confirm what a previously leaked image of the same component revealed.

No one has gotten their hands on an iPhone 6 yet, but luxury retailer Feld & Volk managed to cobble together enough loose components to put one together itself. Maybe we should stop whining about the fact that the Galaxy S5 looks like a band-aid — things could be much worse. Redditor Vastrax reminds us of a Samsung released more than a decade ago that we’ve tried to wipe from our memories because it was so ugly that it even makes HTC’s notoriously hideous Evo 4G LTE look stylish by comparison.

Unlike previous iPhone generations, the iPhone 6 will pack an NFC chip that will offer users access to wireless payments and possibly other neat NFC-related tricks, a feature that has only been available on smartphones running other operating systems so far. After a Wired story on Thursday confirmed the NFC features of the iPhone 6 – something previous components leaks also hinted at before – reports from The Financial Times and well-known insider John Gruber have further detailed Apple’s NFC plans for the iPhone.
