Google Maps has completely changed the way people navigate the world. Without having to pay a dime, users are able to find almost any location on the planet, learn about it, and even navigate to it. Of course, “free” always comes at a price with Google as we have discussed at length in the past, and sometimes Google collects far more data than most people are aware. Google’s various services always detail data collection in their terms and conditions, but we all know just about no one actually reads those lengthy jargon-filled disclaimers.

In case you missed the months of rumors and the handful of teaser videos posted earlier this week, Samsung is finally going to unveil its brand new Galaxy Note 4 next week during a big press conference ahead of the annual IFA trade show. The Galaxy S5, Samsung’s flagship for the first half of the year, was a bit of a dud and it left Android fans wanting more. If the rumors leading up to next week’s big reveal are any indication, Samsung is about to deliver.

But you don’t have to wait for the new king of phablets to launch to make your current handset (sort of) look like the upcoming Galaxy Note 4.

Motorola managed to turn quite a few heads with the Moto 360 smartwatch, an Android Wear device that took the most basic watch design and further enhanced it by adding smart features. However, while Motorola is yet to fully disclose all the details about Moto 360, LG is already out with its second Android Wear smartwatch, which also happens to be a Moto 360 rival, at least when it comes to design: the G Watch R.

Samsung on Thursday unveiled the Gear S, its latest smartwatch model that also doubles as a smartphone. The device doesn’t run Android Wear or Android, and instead relies on Samsung’s in-house mobile operating system to get things done. Thus, this Tizen-powered SIM-enabled wrist watch has just become the first Tizen smartphone in the world.

HBO has a brand-new reason to offer a standalone online streaming service other than making cord cutters very happy — it could also rake in huge sums of money. Ars Technica points out that a new research note from Barclays Capital analyst Kannan Venkateshwar, who projects that HBO could generate an additional $600 million per year by offering its content online and apart from cable bundles.

HP has been on fire over the past year… and that’s not a good thing. HP announced this week that it will be recalling roughly 6 million AC power cords that were sold between September 2010 through June 2012 after discovering that the cords are liable to overheat and catch on fire. HP says that the affected power cords shipped with “HP and Compaq notebook and mini notebook computers, as well as with AC adapters provided with accessories such as docking stations.” Customers who sent their power cords back will have replacement cords shipped to them at no cost.
