Apple’s Beats acquisition was made official on Wednesday, following weeks of speculations regarding Apple’s reasoning behind such a decision. Apple’s top exec Eddy Cue and Beats’ Jimmy Iovine talked to Re/code co-founders Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher at the their Code Conference on Wednesday night, revealing why the company spent $3 billion on Beats, its largest acquisition to date.

Google sat back for a short while and watched companies like Sony, Motorola and Samsung launch Android-based smartwatches that reminded us a lot of early Android tablets — they were half-baked and rushed to market. Then, Google decided to take matters into its own hands and build a special version of Android designed specifically for wearable devices.
Android Wear already looks promising, thanks mostly to the gorgeous Moto 360 smartwatch set to launch in the coming months. We’ve had a few brief looks at the platform so far, and now a Google engineer has shared images of Android Wear’s notifications system for the first time.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab S family of tablets will have various Galaxy S5 features, SamMobile has learned, after digging through a purportedly leaked firmware for the unannounced tablet. The Galaxy Tab S tablets will feature high-resolution AMOLED displays and will be available in two versions, including a 10.1-inch model and an 8.4-inch version, and should be unveiled in the near future.

It sounds like common sense but apparently some people need to be told that they shouldn’t rely on Wikipedia for accurate medical information. BBC News reports that new research published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association estimates that around 90% of all medical-related entries on Wikipedia contain factual errors, which is particularly disturbing because “up to 70% of physicians and medical students use the tool.”

It’s safe to say that Windows Phone hasn’t taken off the way that Microsoft hoped it would. However, the latest numbers from IDC show that Windows Phone is definitely climbing in the smartphone market, albeit at a very slow pace.

Bad news, Linux fans. Valve took to the Steam Community forums on Tuesday to announce that its first foray into hardware would be delayed to next year. The Steam Machines garnered a great deal of interest when they were revealed last year, promising to bring a desktop experience to the television. Valve has already revealed 13 companies which plan on releasing their own Steam Machines in the years to come, but it doesn’t look like any of them will make it to retail this year.

Apple has included its iPads in the Apple Store for Education section, 9to5Mac reports, meaning that buyers who are either working or studying in higher education can purchase a new iPad Air or iPad mini for less than their regular prices.

Back in February, Facebook announced it was buying WhatsApp for $19 billion. This was a surprising move, given WhatsApp’s reputation for ensuring privacy and Facebook’s not-so-great reputation for privacy, but the two companies insisted that WhatsApp would remain independent, ad-free, and committed to privacy.
