May was a positively huge month for new releases on Netflix, and you can check out the full list of new Netflix original movies and shows for the month of May if you don’t believe us. You should check it out even if you do believe us, as a matter of fact, because there’s so much great content to be found that you undoubtedly missed something. Brand new stand up specials from Jerry Seinfeld and Patton Oswalt and new seasons of hit shows like Dead to Me and Workin’ Moms are just the tip of the iceberg in May’s release lineup. And of course the star of the show last month was the debut season of Space Force, the new Greg Daniels show starring Steve Carell. That’s right, the creator of The Office has a new Netflix show starring Steve Carell!

Once you’ve caught up on anything you might’ve missed from last month, it’s time to turn your attention to June 2020. A ton of new movies were just added to Netflix’s catalog today, including classics like Clueless, The Silence of the Lambs, V for Vendetta, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. But the real news is the 46 different original movies, shows, and specials that Netflix will premiere over the course of the month, so let’s focus on those.

The farewell season of Fuller House hits Netflix on June 2nd, and then the fourth and final season of the hit series 13 Reasons Why will be released a few days later on June 5th. That’s easily the most hotly anticipated release of the entire month. Other top releases in June include season 5 of Queer Eye, the return of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, a new season of F is for Family, Pokémon Journeys: The Series, Marcella season 3, The Order season 2, and the second season of the hit show The Politician. The coronavirus face masks people swarm Amazon for are now only 60¢

%name The coronavirus face masks people swarm Amazon for are now only 60¢ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Looking for face masks for sale online? After selling out briefly over the weekend, Amazon’s best-selling 3-layer face masks are back in stock and back down to a new all-time low price of 60¢ per mask.
  • Now that the economies of many states are reopening prematurely, people are stocking up on coronavirus face masks yet again ahead of the inevitable second wave of COVID-19 infections.
  • Face masks are a necessity for everyone because the CDC recommends that we wear them at all times whenever we leave our homes for protection.

Economies are beginning to reopen prematurely in regions across the United States, which means that it’s now more important than ever that you follow three simple rules every single time you leave your home. First and foremost, you must wear a face mask like the CDC recommends on its website. Second, you need to practice strict social distancing and stay away from other people whether or not they’re wearing masks — and remember, 6 feet isn’t far enough. And third, you need to ensure good hygiene by washing your hands as often as you can and by using hand sanitizer whenever you touch a surface outside your home. And don’t worry, strong hand sanitizer is finally back in stock at Amazon.

There is definitely a second wave of novel coronavirus infections coming, but that doesn’t mean we have to stop reopening the economy. Quite the contrary, in fact. As long as we follow the three crucial guidelines we outlined above, we can definitely slow the spread of COVID-19. With that in mind, our readers will be excited to learn that Amazon’s best-selling face masks are not only back in stock today after selling out briefly over the weekend, but they’re also down to a new all-time low price of just 60¢ each.

Face Mask, Pack of 50: $29.99 ($0.60 / mask)

You need to wear a face mask when you go out. Period. Even the CDC says so. People with nonessential jobs are still being advised to continue to shelter in place in most areas but even as businesses start to open up, you should still continue to quarantine yourself and only go out when you absolutely must. When you do have to go out to pick up groceries or do something else that is absolutely necessary, the CDC advises us all to use some type of protective face covering in order to limit the transmission of the novel coronavirus. That DOES NOT mean you should wear an N95 mask or even the KN95 masks that are now flooding the market from China. As long as you practice social distancing and good hygiene, a standard face mask will do just fine.

There are a bunch of different options out there that won’t block healthcare professionals from getting the medical-grade face masks they all need so desperately. We recently told you how to quickly and easily make your own DIY face masks using supplies that you likely already have lying around your home, and they’re far more effective than other cloth DIY face mask instructions you’ll find online. If you want to step things up a bit, someone reverse-engineered an N95 face mask and posted instructions to make your own, complete with a virus neutralizer.

If you’re not the DIY type though, don’t worry because we have some excellent news for you.

Face Mask, Pack of 50: $29.99 ($0.60 / mask)

Last week, we told you that Amazon’s best-selling face masks by Jointown were back in stock and available to ship out right away. The wildly popular Jointown masks are linked above, and now there’s another best-seller that just came back in stock: XHW 3-ply face masks. They cost 70¢ per mask, so they’re a great option if the Jointown masks sell out again.

Both of these options are 3-layer masks that do a great job of blocking things from your airways and preventing the virus from spreading if you already have it — provided you also take the necessary precautions and practice strict social distancing. These are not N95 masks or medical-grade surgical masks, and that’s important to note. That said, the CDC recommends that we wear cloth face coverings like these masks anytime we leave the house. They’re also much better than most of the cloth DIY face masks that people are sharing plans for online right now.

Disposable 3 Ply Face Mask, Pack of 50: $34.99 ($0.70 / mask)

When we told you about these face masks arriving back in stock on Amazon, tens of thousands of our readers rushed over to the site to buy them. Incredibly, however, these best-selling masks are still in stock and still available to ship right away. There are other face masks available right now on Amazon as well, so if shipping times start to slip back you can always use that page to find comparable masks. Another popular option among our readers lately is the even thicker MagiCare KN95 face mask. It’s a bit pricier than the other ones we’ve mentioned, but plenty of people out there are willing to pay for the extra sense of security. The 3-ply masks are more than good enough for most situations, but it’s smart to also have some KN95 masks on hand for higher-risk places like public transportation, airplanes, and doctor’s offices.

Magicare 4-Ply Material Protection High Efficiency of Filtration, 3D Design for Better Fit the…: $64.99 ($3.25 / mask)

The aforementioned face masks from Amazon and the two DIY masks we linked earlier in this article are all great options, and they’ll definitely do the job if you also remain vigilant. Stay at home unless you absolutely must go out. Practice social distancing and stay as far away from other people when you do have to leave the house. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer as frequently as possible, especially after touching surfaces outside of your home.

  • An Android wallpaper is enough to crash handsets made by Samsung and other handset makers, and that’s thanks to an improper Google color profile.
  • The crash might force you to restore the phone to factory settings, which means you’d lose all the data in the process.
  • There is a way to save the sunset image and use it as a wallpaper, and it involves editing the photo or taking a screenshot of it.

We usually warn you to avoid specific messages on iPhone that can crash your device. It’s usually a string a strange character, a perfect storm if you will, that can make the handset unresponsive, and those issues can be fixed most of the time. It’s now time to look at a similar problem that’s affecting Android devices, an image that can crash your handset if you use it as a wallpaper. Unlike the iPhone SMS bug, this one only affects your device if you set that image up as a wallpaper yourself, so you can’t run into it accidentally.

Samsung quietly launched a new smartphone subscription service

%name Samsung quietly launched a new smartphone subscription service by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Galaxy Note 20 price hasn’t even leaked, but Samsung’s flagships launching in the second half of the year will probably be expensive, especially the new Galaxy Fold 2 foldable device.
  • Samsung launched an interesting smartphone subscription program called Access, which bundles financing with Premium Care, and Microsoft 365.
  • The Galaxy S20 phones are available under Access, with prices starting at $37 per month for the bundle.

The Galaxy S20 series has hardly been the sales success Samsung envisioned, and that’s not just because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. The health crisis affected smartphone sales across the board, particularly in the second quarter of the year, when more and more countries took unprecedented measures to limit the spread, leaving millions of people without a job. But the Galaxy S20’s main problem was the pricing structure. The cheapest version costs $999, before price discounts and other promos, which is $300 more than the most affordable iPhone 11 version. The iPhone 11, starting at $699, was the best-sold phone of the first quarter.

Samsung is getting ready to launch two new flagship phones, the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Fold 2. Both of them will probably be expensive devices, with the next-gen foldable likely to cost more than $1,500. In preparation for that, Samsung quietly launched a new smartphone subscription service that could convince more people to buy more expensive phones.

Prediction: President Trump will blame a spike in coronavirus cases on all the protests

%name Prediction: President Trump will blame a spike in coronavirus cases on all the protests by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • George Floyd protests have multiplied and escalated around the country this weekend, as Americans poured into the streets to protest the killing by Minneapolis police of an unarmed man during his arrest.
  • This all comes even as the US is still trying to deal with the coronavirus pandemic — infections, and deaths from which are still on the rise.
  • President Trump will likely point to the protests this weekend if we see a spike in coronavirus cases over the coming days, to take attention away from his administration’s response to the virus.

No question, this has been a depressing weekend in the US. Anyone who’s opened their social media feeds since Friday night will have been greeted with scenes offering a mixture of peaceful, loud and emotional, and in some cases violent and out-of-control protests in major cities around the US, as the killing of an unarmed man named George Floyd by Minneapolis police touched a raw, painful nerve in the American psyche.

“LAW & ORDER!” reads a terse tweet President Trump posted Sunday afternoon, after using the social network earlier in he day to call on cities and states around the country to call in more National Guard troops. I point to the president’s Twitter account, the subject of even more scrutiny than ever these days, because I fully expect to see some version of the following emanate from it soon: My prediction is that any surge in coronavirus cases over the coming days will be blamed by the president on the protestors who’ve filled the nation’s streets this weekend.

‘Minecraft Dungeons’ review: Diabolically simple

%name ‘Minecraft Dungeons’ review: Diabolically simple by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon-crawling action-adventure game set in the Minecraft universe.
  • In Minecraft Dungeons, you battle against zombies, creepers, and skeletons while gathering powerful gear that will let you take on greater challenges as you progress.
  • Minecraft Dungeons is available on Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC right now.

Gauntlet and Diablo are my personal dungeon-crawling touchstones. Some nights I’d hole up in the study, plunging into the hellish depths beneath Tristram to defeat the Lord of Terror. Other nights, you could find me downstairs with my Nintendo 64, collecting keys and popping potions as enemies filled the screen.

I have had a soft spot for top-down hack-and-slash adventures ever since, which is why I was intrigued by Minecraft Dungeons from the moment it was announced. This action-oriented offshoot is set in the same universe as Minecraft, but removes all of the pivotal creative freedom that made Minecraft the biggest game ever. And yet, even without that freedom, Dungeons succeeds on its own merits by breaking the genre up into its component parts and only using the essentials to craft a compelling experience that gamers of any skill level can enjoy.

Audiences are actually loving ‘Space Force’ despite the terrible reviews

%name Audiences are actually loving ‘Space Force’ despite the terrible reviews by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The release of the new Netflix comedy series Space Force came on Friday, and while it was highly anticipated as a result of being Steve Carell’s first return to TV comedy since The Office, early reviews were pretty brutal.
  • Most accused the show of being directionless and of being reverse-engineered around the title and basic idea.
  • Early reaction from audiences, meanwhile, was much different, with a significant positive reception seen once the show started streaming.

I have to confess, I was pretty surprised — shocked might even be a better word — at critics’ almost across-the-board panning of Netflix’s new Steve Carell-led series Space Force that debuted on the streaming service Friday. I spoke with creator Greg Daniels earlier this month about reuniting with Carell for this new 10-episode series, which fictionalizes the real-world creation of the US miliary’s new Space Force that’s happening concurrently with the show. I also previewed Season 1 before it debuted on Netflix, and barring a few of the growing pains that all new series generally grapple with during their inaugural season as they start to find their rhythm, I found the series to easily check the two boxes I require of any television series — it both entertained and indulged me, in the same vein as previous TV series that Daniels has had a hand in creating, like The Office and Parks and Recreation.

Nevertheless, for the most part, early reviews were brutal. Slate called it “shockingly unfunny.” From Mashable, a somewhat inscrutable critique: “Unfortunately, Netflix’s Space Force lives up to its name.” And from The Daily Beast: The show is a “confusing misfire, wasting serious potential.” And the bad reviews keep piling up from there. Meanwhile, how do audiences feel, now that the series is actually live on Netflix?

Everything coming and going on Netflix the week of May 31st

%name Everything coming and going on Netflix the week of May 31st by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Netflix is kicking off the month of June with 45 new shows, movies, and specials this week.
  • Two very popular Netflix original series — Fuller House and 13 Reasons Why — will come to an end next month, with their final seasons debuting just a few days apart.
  • There are a bunch of great movies being added in June as well, including Clueless and Lady Bird.

June is a relatively light month for Netflix, at least compared to the rest of 2020 up to this point, but there are a few undeniable highlights coming in the first week. First up is the fourth and final season of 13 Reasons Why, which has never been able to recapture the magic of its first season, but still has a dedicated following that will be intrigued to see how the story concludes. And as the first day of the month happens to fall on Monday of this week, we’re also getting a ton of licensed movies, including Clueless, E.T., V for Vendetta, and Lady Bird.

Doctors may have found a new way to predict and treat severe coronavirus cases

%name Doctors may have found a new way to predict and treat severe coronavirus cases by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Future coronavirus treatment may include meds that boost the number of T-cells in the blood, which are capable of neutralizing pathogens that infect the body.
  • Researchers from the UK discovered that severe COVID-19 cases show a much lower lymphocyte count than expected, and that can be a marker for COVID-19 complications.
  • A trial is looking at whether interleukin 7, which can boost T-cell levels, can help patients experiencing a severe version of COVID-19 recover.

Statements from experts including the WHO and Dr. Anthony Fauci that said the novel coronavirus might never go away sound alarming, but that’s not the whole story. The flu never went away and won’t disappear even though we have vaccines that can provide temporary immunity. But the flu is a highly manageable infectious disease. We have various lines of treatment that work, and we all know how to treat its symptoms and when to seek medical attention. COVID-19 is still an illness that lacks a standard treatment, although doctors have been testing all sorts of therapies that work, including some promising vaccine candidates. Others are developing brand new meds that are meant to prevent the virus from replicating and provide brief periods of immunity. These are antibody-based drugs that could improve the condition of COVID-19 patients by giving a helping hand to their immune systems. Antibody-rich plasma from COVID-19 survivors proved this type of therapy works in severe cases.

Now, researchers from the UK have made a new discovery related to the immune response that could help physicians predict which COVID-19 cases will worsen. It may even offer them a way to treat those severe cases.

One vaccine maker is thinking about intentionally exposing volunteers to the coronavirus

%name One vaccine maker is thinking about intentionally exposing volunteers to the coronavirus by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Coronavirus vaccine trials have hit a serious snag, as there aren’t enough COVID-19 patients in the communities where volunteers might reside.
  • If not enough people get sick, researchers can’t assess the effectiveness of the vaccine candidate.
  • AstraZeneca, which will produce the promising Oxford vaccine, confirmed that it’s considering challenge trials where subjects are exposed to COVID-19 intentionally after being given the vaccine candidate.

More than 100 novel coronavirus vaccines are currently in development, with around 10 of them having moved to clinical trials. Companies like Moderna and CanSino made the news recently for their progress. The American and Chinese trials started several weeks ago, and both companies announced preliminary results. Only CanSino published a full paper on the Phase 1 trial. Another promising COVID-19 vaccine candidate is the one from Oxford, which started clinical trials a bit later, but is now advancing to Phases 2 and 3 of the test. Of all the COVID-19 vaccine candidates, Oxford’s is the one that could be ready for use as soon as September.

However, all of these companies have run into an unexpected issue, one that Oxford detailed a few days ago. There might not be enough sick people around to test the vaccine, which could lead to delays. The pandemic is far from being over, but there aren’t as many cases in some of the areas where these vaccines would be tested, including European countries and China. And without the pathogen moving freely inside a community where vaccine volunteers live, there’s no way for researchers to see if the vaccine works. Therefore, AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical giant that partnered with Oxford to manufacture the vaccine, has confirmed that it’s considering infecting volunteers with SARS-CoV-2.
